Hypothetical Question: Mourinho or Pep as United Manager?

So in light of the recent SAF comments re: Pardew/Newcastle - do sceptics still think Jose Mourinho goes 'too far' and 'isn't appropriate' for our club? Imagine the outrage had from some folks in this thread had Jose Mourinho said the same thing.

Did he poke Pardew's eye??

Jose makes SAF seem like a near-perfect diplomat.

Irrelevant of the most recent Fergie-gate incident, I would prefer if Jose or Pep stayed away from United as I would prefer someone who might stay for many years and do not think that either Pep or Mourinho will stay more than 3 seasons and I do not want United to become a merry-go-round of managers.

However, the way that football is shaping up, I don't think that there are many managers left who would stay longer than 3 seasons. There is certainly no European managers that would commit long-term to the club, IMO.

Just to answer the question though, I'd prefer Mourinho as I am not certain that I would 100% trust Guardiola with a transfer budget as he has never really had to spend massively to improve or maintain his squad. Mourinho is also a master at deflecting media attention away from his team at the right time

Guardiola has told his agent and his brother which offer he has decided to accept. It is expected he will join an English club. [md]

It's a position on Loose Women.

I wonder which club it could be? Not us, I assume.

It's funny when people are dishing mourinho for the reason that he won't stay for long, even funnier when before that they prefer pep. THE pep guardiola that quits his childhood and only club he'd server after a mere 4 years, winning treble, and arguably having the best club squad ever assembled. And he called it quit due to stress.

I don't have a problem with Mourinho saying or doing stupid shit because there is always a method to the madness and is done to serve a purpose, not just because he's being a dick. It's not unlike Sir Alex's mind games that he's done countless times like putting pressure on referees before big matches. Is it the right thing to do? No. But it helps out the cause and is beneficial to United, so it's okay with me.

My main problem with Mourinho is that near the end of his short stays (except Inter), there is always chaos at the club before he leaves and it damages the club for awhile after he leaves.

Pardew attacked Fergie first, so you would expect from anyone to respond, especially after Fergie praised Pardew so much time in the past. Pardew acted like an idiot, and he got what he deserves.

I see where the comparision with Mourinho comes from, but Mourinho mainly says this kind of stuff after his team loses with nothing caused, after every defeat he acts like a cnut.

A difference between SAF & Jose is this: when SAF causes controversy, I don't immediately think he's doing it to draw attention to himself, or alternatively, away from his failings.

City. They've been basically laying the groundwork for him to come in.

Is that Twitter account worth anything, or just the usual ITK bollocks? As part of the pro-Guardiola camp, I can't decide if it would encourage or discourage me. Doesn't seem likely that SAF will quit just yet, so probably if that tweet were accurate it would mean he's City-bound. Which would piss me off because, if nothing else, it means he won't be coming here.

Any more news on what Barca are planning to do in Tito's (hopefully temporary, hopefully short) absence?

I'm in your camp mate....Guardiola would be my preferred choice at Old Trafford post-Ferguson, for a good number of reasons.

I think the general word is Villanova will return to work fairly soon, providing his recovery is on track.

Lets face it, most opposition fans think worse of SAF than they do Mourinho.

Very true

Can't really see Mourinho being happy with a quarter of the budget he is used to just for the kudos of managing Manchester United.

He's relatively frugal these days. Anyone got an estimate of how much he spent at Inter and Madrid?

Of course there is the odd mega purchase per season; Modric, Coentrão, di María, Milito, Eto, Quaresma

Guardiola has apparently said in an interview with some Spanish paper that he's going to return to management at the end of season and take over one of the Premier League sides. Unless Ferguson retires on short notice at the end of season, we can put the whole Guardiola speculation to bed.

If Mourinho takes over City and Pep takes over Chelsea this summer the Caf will meltdown for real.

Pah, we don't fear either of them.

Inter and Madrid were pre built teams that already had massive amounts invested in them, that's the only reason he was frugal. No doubt if Mourinho went to a club and was given loads of cash he'd spend as much as it took to win.

It was an article in Deportivo Mundo yesterday.

But - December 28th is something like April's foolday in Spain...

Jurgen Klopp would be my choice. Guardiola walked away from his boyhood club when they are at their absolute peak so I can't see him staying here too long if he got the job. Mourinho is brilliant, and I wouldn't be against us appointing him manager, but I'd prefer Klopp.

A couple of papers today with speculation that Pep has suggested he's waiting for the United job:

PEP GUARDIOLA WILL KO MANCHESTER CITY BOSS BID IN FAVOUR OF UNITED

ABOVE: Former Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola Guardiola, 41, would extend his sabbatical should Fergie decide to stay

PEP GUARDIOLA is ready to snub the blue half of Manchester – for the red.

The Daily Star Sunday revealed this month how Manchester City told Guardiola to name his price to replace Roberto Mancini.

City sporting director Txiki Begiristain met with the Spaniard but the former Barcelona boss told friends it is the United job he wants.

That is expected to be available in the summer with Sir Alex Ferguson planning to retire but even if he changes his mind, Guardiola is prepared to wait.

In a huge snub to City, Guardiola, 41, would extend his sabbatical should Fergie decide to stay.

Guardiola could double his money at City but is more interested in the Old Trafford project and has met Ferguson over the last few months to discuss it.

The men have property in New York and are reported to have met at least three times there recently.

A three-year deal is on the table for Guardiola who will want two assistants and three new coaches for the clubs’s youth programme.

No concrete evidence just rumours and speculation as ever. He's my personal preference but nobody will know what he wans until he comes out with it. If he's going to Chelsea I'm sure he will dramatically announce it on twitter at some point ;)
