Hulk on the move again?

Might be premature to judge having only seen him live vs United and on a few other occasions briefly but he looks like the type of player that we are hope Bebe will turn out to be(we may be hoping for better).

I'd be very worried if we signed him to be honest as he doesn't look like a priority buy.

I think the fact that he's left footed, quick and powerful is a point of interest. Sure I've seen good players on the left who are right footed, Ronaldo for example, but this craze for playing left footers on the right and right footers on the left is just stupid. Mancini does it with Milner and Johnson, when he plays Johnson. The fact is that you'll create and score more goals from getting crosses into the box than you will from having a player cut inside into traffic.

For this reason a strong left footed player would interest me. We seem to have a lot of potential on the right with Valencia, Nani, Oberton, Bebe, Park all right footers. None of them perform to 100% of their ability on the left.

Doesn't Hulk play almost exclusively from the right, and if not there then through the middle?

If you want to buy a forward from Porto you should make it Falcao, intelligent, skilful goalscorer.

21 goals in 51 games for Porto isn't bad. Not amazing, but isn't bad.

Also, the way he looked at Terry in disgust makes me think 'SIGN HIM UP!'

You are a big fan of us signing Wayne Bridge in other words ?

He's had an impressive season so far no? Arruda?

He was doing ok last year as well, but considering he was banned from internal competitions for around 3 months (unlawfully as a superior court nullified his punishment) he was a bit off-form on the CL matches. That said he came out of the punishment with an amazing will and has improved dramatically since then. Right now he's at his best form ever, racking up goals and assists with tremendous ease. 8 in 8 in the Portuguese League plus a couple in the Europa League. I posted this video on another thread, it was Porto's game at Istambul, where he received a standing ovation from Besiktas fans (!!!) after his second goal. He played as main striker after Maicon's sending off, because of his pace for counters since we were one man short. He also racked an assist for a (ridiculously) ruled out goal.

Next home game and he scores another two plus one assist. He seems much more involved with his team-mates this season and I just feel sorry this isn't a Champions League year for us so I could see his displays against superior teams.

The standard of defending is rather awful obviously, but the last year against the same players we weren't doing this well. This last video is more to show how complete is his involvement with the team play nowadays as compared to the "run and shoot" of his first days around here.

Is he good enough Arruda, do you think?

I can't never be completely sure if a player like him can cut it at the highest level. By his performance this season (not only goals but in general build up play) I think he could be good enough to be a star in the Premier. He seems to have improved a lot on his decision making, his confidence is superb at the moment and he does almost everything well. However he had periods on the past two years when things weren't going very well for him (we had a weaker team overall as well) and at those moments he can be frustrating to watch. Shoots too much from awkward positions and since his first touch isn't superb if he has a very strong marker on top of him he lost the ball to many times. Think of the worse Cristiano Ronaldo performances (at the National team mostly) and you get an idea of the type.

Did he really improved overall or is it just a temporary rise in form? If the former I think he has all the qualities to be world class. Pace, strength, good technique with the ball, a fierce shoot and a tremendous will to perform. Let's see if his brain is up to his physique. This will be a good season to ascertain that.

I think that depends a lot on the way the team wants to build it's attacks. On Porto we play 4-3-3 with very mobile wingers that constantly switch flanks. Their role here is to support the striker in a more direct manner and score goals themselves, not really deliver crosses into the box. Messi was always more dangerous on the right and they didn't need to cross to make goals nor was their striker best used in that fashion. Hulk is best used on the right, and though he's dangerous on the left as well his crosses are not good enough to make up for the lost shooting power.

Don't suppose, by any chance, that Hulk's contract is up for renewal and his agent wants to put the frighteners on Porto to get him a good pay rise?

He signed for Porto in 2008 so he's two and a half yrs into his contract as we speak.

Other than that I've not been impressed when I've seen him play.

That's the comparison I was thinking of - has the single-minded directness of Ronaldo but without the ability. So his use of the ball is frequently frustrating and is why we often wonder where the hell is the lad's football brain?

Watching Porto smashing Benfica 5:0 and I must say again that Hulk is great, great player, not world class yet but he is geting better and better, would love him here!

What a brilliant match, certainly one of the best feelings I had as a Porto fan.

Superb performance by everyone.

Hulk impressed me in the games against Porto a few seasons back but cant really see his type of player being a priority unless Rooney goes and even then I'd like to think we'd get a more proven player in.

As it stands though Rooney, Berba, Hernandez & Owen is more than enough

IMO, you can't really count on Owen to be fit.

This thread needs a picture.

He isn't really much on an improvement on what we have.

This rumour is quite outdated. I think it was the Portuguese press making the connection between Rooney leaving and United having a representative watching Porto games.

It's fairly common to have representatives from important clubs at our ground in any decent match. They can be watching any player though, and from watching a player to him being the "biggest priority" goes a big distance.

He's being linked with Chelsea right now, and until the end of the season will probably be linked with City, Real Madrid, United, Chelsea again, etc, and will end up going to one of these, unfortunately.

feck me, look at that fecking neck

Yeah, his trapezius is something...

What do you think of Falcao Garcia?

He's superb as well, clearly our best player and most valuable asset along with Hulk.

He has an amazing positioning inside the box and a very good shooting technique, both with feet and head.

Clearly our best striker since Jardel, has an amazing goals/games ratio, and some beautiful ones as well:

Very intelligent player, though he's not the type of striker I imagine too easily in the Premiership. I really don't know why, I just don't see this type of player flourishing over there, he's a classic goal poacher. Has a tremendous work rate and is very dedicated but his size and low dribble speed probably don't make him very suited to play in a club like United or Chelsea.

Porto striker Hulk knows he needs to move to England to give himself a chance of making the Brazil squad.

Manchester City chief Mike Rigg has confirmed their interest in the forward, who has also been linked with Tottenham and Manchester United.

"I know that if I was playing in a country other than Portugal, like England, Spain or Italy, I would receive a lot more media attention," said Hulk.

"I know playing in the Premier League would give me more opportunities for the Brazilian team. I am convinced of that."

Its really is a real life game of champo isnt it?

I know its more about squads now than ever before, but when you play 1 striker, you dont need 6. Pathetic.

Like Fergie said, it will be like this until they win something now. Or until the owners get bored, more likely the first but I fecking hope its the second.

I thought he played on the right of a front 3?

11m/year isnt that much
they can make that up by selling santacruz, bellamy and someone like michael johnson

It is if a single player like Yaya Toure is on 230k per week.

(If that is the case, I can't believe Dseko is only getting 5,1m per year)

Bridge, R. Santa Cruz, M. Johnson, Bellamy, Jo, Adebayor, SWP
They have plenty of players they can offload to reduce the wage budget when they need to

They're not just 11M Away from meeting the regulations, Dzeko adds £11m pa in their extra cost.

For eg: If they were away 100M Away from Meeting the regulations before now they are 111M away.

hmm.. I dont know
Just read this and it sounded like they were 11m over
I read yesterday that MCFC are £11m pa away from complying with UEFA FFP rules. This won't happen unless they cut the squad...

Guys, city's wagebill before toure, dzeko etc exceeded their entire turnover by nearly £30m last year. That's without other costs. They are nearer £100m outside the regs than £11m.

Yea but who would buy those wages? Will they lower them? For a player like Bridge or Jo they ain't getting a better deal. No mind SWP. They ain't going nowhere until their contracts run out.

The Brazilian striker is happy at Porto but will weigh up a Premier League offer.

Porto's prolific frontman Hulk has failed to rule out a move away from the Portuguese giants in light of interest from England.

The striker has been linked with Manchester United , Manchester City and Tottenham during the January transfer window, with City previously keen on signing him for a record-breaking fee.

The 24-year-old eventually stayed in Portugal, but things could change at the end of the current campaign.

"If a transfer appears good for all parties then we should consider it," he said.

"There is always a lot of speculation about me but it does not bother me at all.
"The important thing is to concentrate on Porto and do my job. I'm already at a big club. Since arriving in Portugal I have improved a lot but I can still play a lot better."

Hulk has been in sensational form to net 19 goals in 18 league outings for his side.
