How much would you pay for Ronaldo?

I'm not sure i'd go for him, I know he would come in and have 1/2 decent seasons but I like remembering Ronaldo here the player he was at that time.

Seeing him come back so we can watch him go downhill while paying more in wages than Madrid who got his best years would be slightly depressing. I don't think Ronaldo will age well I know he will always get goals but I get the feeling when his level starts to drop it will drop pretty quick.

I can only agree with the bold part. If we were to buy him back the income he'd bring in would be insane. You could afford to pay him a fortune from that alone without it hurting our finances. But aside from the financial aspect, just imagine not being in for Ronaldo if he became available. Woodward and LVG would be lynched.

Ronaldo will never come back. I reckon he'd want to spend his declining years in the sun, not in rainy Manchester, with the English media putting a 'can he still cut it in the best league in the world' tag attached to him. I just don't see it happening.

Absolutely ridiculous people saying they don't want him. Imagine another two/three years of Ronaldo at this level, and by that time the level the likes of Memphis/Martial/Januzaj could reach.

Without looking, I wouldn't be surprised if he has a better goals to game ratio than we do as a club this season.

At current rate it would take him just between 2 and 3 seasons to become our top goalscorer too.

Just in time for an MLS send off.

we paid 25 million for Van Persie, got one great season in Fergie's last and I think he was still worth it

we just took a hit of 15 million on Di Maria

with that in mind I'd pay at least 30 million to bring him home - would be a great couple of years

A reminder to the people posting in this thread:

Cristiano Ronaldo has scored 1 fewer goal in his last 2 matches than Wayne Rooney has in 2015 so far.

And some of you are not wanting us to do whatever it takes for him? :wenger:

£30m. As good as he is, this is the real world and you have to justify spending serious money. He will be 31 next year.

I reckon Ronaldo will outlast Messi at the top of the game, despite being a fair bit older. He's got a phenomenal physique, and a good injury record. He's done everything better than pretty much everyone before him - in terms of preparation, work ethic etc - and I think he'll probably age better than any other players too. He's got a good 4-5 seasons left at the very top.

Whatever it took if he actually wanted to come here.

He's one of the best players in the world and with his drive we should get at least 3 seasons out of him being in top form. He's also the most marketable footballer since Beckham and him being here will give a lift to the players, the club and the fans.

Nothing because he didn't want to be here and doesn't want to come back.

I already dream with a mega offer from United for Cristiano and some signed contracts at 23:59

Hah, imagine that, both Real Madrid and United's all time top scorer.

Not a bad point if you think about it. Easy to imagine that he would certainly be interested to have the label as the leading scorer for the two biggest clubs in the world. And what a case it would be to regard him as the best player in history. Let's get the memo to him once he breaks the record for Madrid.

Its time we look at the future and not at the past. If we're spending ridiculous money on a player than just sign Bale

Who cares, he ain't coming. Every frikking year, get over him.

This. If even a friend of a friend of his maid mentions United, the papers are plastered of stories of him "coming back".

But hypothetically, i he did come back i would say hes worth around 50m £ tops. He might be worth a lot more, but if we payed the amount of money we got for him, we would look real desperate. It also means Madrid would have gotten the worlds best player (at times) for free.

Realistically if he did become available, anyone to turn him down would be an imbecile. You'd get a lot of people on here doing U-turns.

But I can't see him moving back here. I think only if SAF was still manager would we have had the smallest chance. It's telling already that he's barely won any trophies at Madrid in his spell there, and he still remains.

Id spend whatever it took to get him back (within reason) but its just dreaming now.

This isn't the United he left! He won't be coming back. Maybe if Fergie was still manager, he could tempt him, but not going to happen

Anything over 30 million would be insane given his age, he's still worth that figure for his goals alone though.

I think people who are saying no are unhappy over the fact that we sold him as he was getting into his prime and then gave his best years to Real. And then we will get him back closer to the end of his career.

Irrespective of how well he takes care of himself, at this age, one bad tackle and he may never regain his level. It is too much of a risk to pay £100 million for a player at this stage in his career.

Lets look at it objectively

- Best or second best player in the world (no need to get into the debate)
- Probably one of the best players ever to play the game
- He scores goals, takes his chances, we don't have this at the minute
- Think it's generally accepted that due to his natural fitness, professionalism, drive he probably has another 3-4 years of top to good productivity
- The marketing value he brings can negate a lot of any potential cost to bring him to a club

You don't pass up on the chance to go for this, peoples view are probably tainted one way or the other due to hurt or love etc but the points all still stand

Obligatory this is never happening comment

He would cost a lot, he may be turning 31 but his form hasn't declined at all, it would suggest he still has a good few years left in the tank.

It's not a realistic target anyway, he doesn't want to play for us, he's at his dream club, getting paid a lot of money and still performing. IMO depending on form he will stay at Madrid for the next 3/4 years then head off to MLS for one last payday in the sun.

Besides if we are going to spend £100m on a player we should invest it in someone younger.

We have a lot of money. Ronaldo basically guarantees we'd at least challenge for the league. Add 40+ goals into this current side if we had him.

At the end of the day, if you're Manchester United with our seemingly limitless budget and a player like Ronaldo or Messi comes available, you pay whatever it takes to get them. They are that good. Money is irrelevant to our football club right now, bringing in one of the best players the world has ever seen while they're still at the peak of their powers would be the ultimate "statement".

If he ever were to leave Madrid you'd imagine next Summer would be the time. He'll have broken every record for them there is. He'll have 2 years left on his deal so Madrid will be able to get a decent transfer fee. He'll still only be 31 so would have 3+ years left at the absolute top and he'll be looking for one final huge contract to end his career. Also you'd imagine there are going to be 3-4 superstars moving next Summer.

The "how much would you pay for Ronaldo" question is somewhat irrelevant. Whether you pay £40m, £80m or £100m wouldn't be the entire question. He'll want a salary somewhere in the region of £30m a year and will also want up to a 5 year deal. So even if you sign him on a free he's costing you £150m over 5 years.

Personally I think he'd have a bigger effect over a 5 year period than a new £30m CB, a £40m winger & £40m centre forward combined, especially with the risks associated with these cost players (Di Maria, Mangala, Ozil etc). Therefore I'd see no reason not to pay £100m and £600k a week.

Surely he's not on £600k a week? if true that is disgusting, don't care if you are as good as Ronaldo or Messi.

I think I read he's on around £12.5m net of tax, which would be around £25m gross or close to £500k a week. Plus you imagine he's going to want one final huge contract so will be looking for a pay rise.

Ronaldo and LVG. Seems like a match made in heaven.

As good as he is, I genuinely believe he wouldn't be half as effective for us as he is for Madrid.

Madrid create a shitload of chances - and I mean proper defence-splitting, one-on-one chances. Ronaldo relies a lot on those opportunities - it's rare, nowadays, that you'll see him pluck a game from obscurity with amazing individuality.

As it stands we create about one truly good chance per match, if we're lucky.
