I saw that picture with the accompanying story and thought that Hitzlesperger fella gave our Smalling the courage to finally come out.
I don't really get the outrage, unless it's the fact that the headgear is stereotyping the race or religion of suicide bombers. It seems like people are confusing being the subject and the object of the joke.

I'm not offended by it and I doubt many people are... but I can understand why someone would be offended by dressing up as a mass-murderer actually. A lot of people don't get parodies.
But he's not dressed as a mass murderer, he's dressed as a jager bomber. It's a play on words, not an endorsement of terrorism.
The connection of muslims with bombing and alcohol obviously has the potential to offend. It won't be a big deal though - The Sun just needed another football story to go with Hitzlsperger.
