How do we sell Harry Maguire?

Maguire is an expert on lack of pace...

The point made in the article is exactly that - because of his own lack of pace, he thrives when surrounded by pacy players who can compensate and allow him to stick to what he does best. Which is fair enough, as far as it goes. It's just that I'm not sure you can really argue he's not surrounded by pacy players, if you put him in with Malacia, Varane and Dalot.

40m would be decent given how awful he is in a 2. 50m, I'd bite your hand off.

Given Chelsea are the only big team who play a system where he would fit (I doubt Conte rates him), have the money to actually buy him and are stupid enough to do so, that would be my best guess.

and Lindelof isn't all that slow either

We should. However, with the way the club is run, we'll ask for a ridiculous fee and Maguire will still be here come the start of next season. With 'sources close to Maguire' leaking like a sieve.
based on the two clowns' behaviour in the summer, they are likely to offer him a contract extension...

There has been a lot of talk about a divide by language in the team with Maguire being at the heart of it. With the point about Martinez being able to speak to DDG in Spanish it gives some credence to those claims. DDG speaks perfect English so doesn't need the man next to him to speak Spanish to communicate with him, he just needs him to talk to him.

What Martinez has been doing this season is geeing the defenders up. Celebrating every tackle won and every ball cleared. Our Captain should have been doing this for years. All that he ever does is blame somebody else when he makes a mistake.

If Harry has a good world cup we should try to capitalize on it in January maybe even loan next summer to a club that suits his his attributes if he is still at the club with no serious buyers

With all due respect a realistic value for Harry would be ≈£20 million and not more expensive than that.

But since we’re talking about Premier League, a league where a freshly promoted team like Nottingham changed like +20 players from the Premiership and a team like Chelsea that didn’t want to pay £55 million for a proven WC defender like Koundé but suddenly, decide that they need to spend £70 on Marc Cucurella and £80 on Fofana…

Taking that into the table, if United are able to get £40 or even £50 million from good ol’ Harry, a monument to the Glazers should be built in the premises to Old Trafford.

We have lost every single match he has started this season and won every single match he was sat on the bench  Tells you all you need to know really!! ;)

He’s 30 next summer, on big wage, has 1 (2 with option?) year left on his contract, not starting and can be by then in rotten form for the best part of 2 seasons, good luck flogging him for anything more than 30m, and even that is pushing it. 20-25m is more realistic, if we can even attract buyers, that is.

That’s nearly £100m down the drain if we manage to sell him and AWB at the commonly accepted price range, Ole continues to feck this club long after his tenure.

Can this please be the end of him being captain. It’s incredibly embarrassing for everyone connected with the club right now - The staff, players, fabs and Harry himself. Hopefully this is the final nail in the coffin.

Whether said direct or indirectly via a close source the calling out of everyone but himself and the previous interviews where he has shown a complete lack of self awareness is not acceptable for a Manchester United captain. To cap it off not good enough to play so should be handed over to someone who epitomises the culture the manager is trying to create and who warrants a place on the pitch.

We need to move on from his loser mentality.

Forget squad depth, needs to be moved on so we as a club can move on from one of the biggest transfer blunders in our history.

The problem is, who in their right mind parts good money for Maguire. It seems two obvious destinations in Chelsea or Newcastle are now managed by sensible managers who I’m sure would not sign off such a purchase.

The spanish language thing is borderline xenophobic as it make no sense in any sane footballing discussion, i'd bet that De Gea has better english language skills than Harry. I've never felt comfortable with all the memes and jibes at Maguire as he was good for us until he got that injury before the Europa final and then miraculously appeared at the Euros (i think thats what really fecked him up as he never recoverd that form since). But for the club captain or a close associate to be coming out with this stuff at this time shows a lack of intelligence and tone deafness. I dont see any possible angle where this helps him unless he has something lined up for January and will try for force a move. ETH must be fuming and i can just imagine the thoughts of Bryan Robson who is around the club now.

Didn't know about his contract I think 35 million is decent with regards. I think Maguire would sell for 50 million quite easily. He's an England international and has experience at a big club. Sure there would be a few admirers I'm the league if he was to be sold.

Reminds me of Corry Evans wife rant about Romania.

I've backed Maguire for a very long time. I thought the midfielders in front of him didn't help McFred was a disaster and a combination of his and Shaws poor form wasn't helping either.

Having said that, we have McTominay in good form, we have Casemiro and we have Eriksen now. Martinez has transformed the back line into a modern team.

Maguires time is up, forget the fee. Even if you take away the fee paid at this point he's not what United need. Harry would be perfect in a low block team that defends crosses all day but United need to play from the back. He can play the ball well but he takes too long to make decisions.

I think Maguire could be sold for £40-50m still, he's of a good age and he is PL quality but not at United. Players like Skriniar are available on a free next summer (huge PSG target) but a good squad option frankly with competition for places, and getting Maguire off the books and recouping money for reinvestment into the squad, why not?

I thought given the chance he could turn it around but his careers done at United.

We should offer him to
@SadlerMUFC

I’m sure he’ll play upto £60m due to his undying love for Maguire. By his own admission, he knows more than all of us as he’s played football for 40 years.

Sometimes a negative can be turned into a positive, given the right reaction. For this occasion I think The Hag should capitalize on it, and remove his captaincy.

Right now there's a reason for the change other than him being shit and Maguire can spend the rest of the season trying to break back into the team without the burden of a captaincy his shoulders aren't (and never was) nearly strong and resilient enough to carry.

Not a leader and not a CB that's fit for a top club. First step is to strip him of the armband, then sell him in January.

Sell him ??? Who's gonna handle the match day entertainment and meme creations aspect of the club ?

I really hope we can actually raise some money through transfers for once. We really should be able to sell Maguire. Teams like Forrest can spend 100M+ on transfers. PL clubs are loaded. Maguire will be an excellent player for anyone outside the top 6 teams.

Same with AWB.

30M for Maguire and 20M for AWB would be fair but I'm sure we'll just renew their contracts or let them go on a free or something.

The only way he is going to be sold is if the club admits that it has made an error with the signing and decides to cut its losses and sell for a realistic price. Judging by our history in these situations, Maguire is more likely to get an extension than to be sold for a cut price which will lead to us digging an even deeper hole on this disastrous deal than is already there right now. Left to me, i'd offer him to Leicester/Wolves in January for £20m and be done with it. Both those teams need central defenders and both those teams place greater value on England internationals than should be the case. They would bite our hands off for him.

He will still have 2 years left on his deal after this season ends with 1 yr option. It was a monumentally bad deal.

Yeah, we must have played easier games when he was on the bench. Right?
I would 90% guess this is a joke but just in case. We played Liverpool and Arse without him and conceded as many goals as we did in 1 game against Brighton at home.

Will be signing an extension to hold his value, will rot on the bench until hes able to leave on a free rather than the cretins use their brain and sell him for half the fee we wasted on him.

We are stuck with him, just like the Awb situation nobody will want him.

I just assumed the standard 5(+1) deal, turned out he signed a 6(+1) one back in 2019. Which makes sense since we looked to him as a long term investment then.

People thinking we would fetch 40m+ for him is delusional, being Man Utd and overpaying, we got a 4 times CL winner at 28 year old for 35m, in what world is Maguire going for more than that, English tax and all, when he’s on huge wage himself?

It will be difficult to shift them for those prices with the wages that they're on. They would be top earners at at any club outside of the top 6.

I really don't know why a large portion of this forum don't understand this.

This is not entirely correct. Just like AwB, the issue with Maguire is not that no one is willing to take him, it's that no other club is dumb/insane enough to pay what we would ask.

There were rumours Crystal Palace were willing to take AwB for £15-20m. Of course, John 'we're ahead in our recruitment plans and won't be doing as much business in the next windows' Murtough and the assorted idiots surrounding him are not willing to take the hit and explain to the Glazers we've fecked up yet again.

Anyone know why all the ex players are always trying to defend him? Even Merson came out the other day apologising to him for an article he wrote criticising his transfer. We have Neville and Keane rushing to defend him. Has he got secret tapes of them in compromising positions or something?

This bloke isn't a source, he's barely even a person. Just an absolute sad little worm. The fact he's managed to survive so long doing whatever it is he claims to be, is embarrassing.

A bit harsh on Maguire no?
