Television House of the Dragon (GoT Prequel) - No book spoilers allowed

I find announcement trailers generally ok in that regard but i skip everything closer to release. You might pick up a spoiler or two if you're really familiar with the story from something else and study the trailer in minute detail but i didn't pick anything up from it. Kind of restating where the last season left us.
I’m just worried I’ll somehow dig up a big spoiler from GoT from the depths of my memory that supposedly exists but was oblivious to last time I watched.

Of course it might be early for that, and it might’ve been from an unfaithful narrator so it might not even work out that way in the end.

The one thing I never got about universes like Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, you name it - why does the fashion stay close to exactly the same for the hundreds of years between their stories? Don't they have fashionistas?

I’ll need a recap of the names again. Seems ages since the first season.
Aegon, Rheagar, Aemon, Daemon, Theagon, Laeghon, Aeghon, Maeghar, Maeghon, Aegon II and Sir Robert STRONG.

Oh and Graham MacTavish looking on disapprovingly.

Maybe I'm just oblivious, but I didn't feel particularly spoiled. Nothing stuck in my head, anyway. If I watch it a few times I might get to the scene in the actual show and go "hey I remember this from the trailer", but it was all very general. Dragons. Men charging. Men shouting. She's my Queen. Ominous stare.

Thanks, that makes sense. Maybe give it a quick sneak peak then :)

Looks great. It's not quite game of thrones level hype but it certainly does scratch that itch.

Didn't think this program was necessary after the end of GoT but watched it recently and it's definitely a good addition.

George created a vast world and amazing lore I think it's absolutely amazing that HBO is willing to take a chance in making these high fantasy big budget shows. House of the Dragon season 1 did amazing numbers so it really bodes well for the future of the high fantasy genre and I will eat it all up

So.... only 8 episodes and it wasnt the producers choice? bleh.
10 is perfect.

Shame he's an absentee dad.

I agree entirely. If I have one criticism, it might be that they went a bit safe with picking this as the next series. I had been looking forward to the planned series that took place during the Long Night, I think rhey might even gave shot a pilot?
But I enjoyed the first season and hope the second is as good.

When you see them head on riding the dragons it always looks a bit naff.

It's definitely not upto the standards of GoT all round either, enjoyable enough though.

I don't think anything from this shared universe will reach the heights of seasons 1-4 of Game of Thrones (I don't think any TV shows will ever top it) but if every series from now on keeps the standard of house of the dragon I'll be very happy.

The problem with a long night prequel is there is no source material to go off of. George has written basically nothing official about the history of the white walkers and if what we got in game of thrones is true(the white walkers were just a weapon created by the children of the forest that went rouge) then it isn't exactly a very interesting story is it?

Also with how easy the walkers were defeated in the series who really cares about them now? We had 8 seasons of build up only for them to be beaten in one episode they didn't even make it past winterfell despite all those teases of "winter has come to kings landing" in Danys prophecy

Episode 9, how anyone could be team green I'll never know.

I think that's kind of the problem with this series. I like it, but basically no one is gonna be Team Green - they should maybe have made it more difficult which side to be on.

Agree with this. Like in GoT, you wanted Lannisters to get theirs, except Tyrion, with Battle of blackwater being a prime example

This got me thinking, has there ever been a show or a movie with two opposing sides that are presented as morally equal, and where you are not meant to root for a specific side? Would it work? I like the idea, but I think it could be a real mess in terms of storytelling and conclusion.

The Wire.

I haven't watched more than a couple of episodes, but isn't it the police vs. drug peddling gangs?

For some of it. But there are bad police, good 'criminals' stuck in bad systems, etc.. You end up liking many characters from all 'sides'.
