Television House of the Dragon (GoT Prequel) - No book spoilers allowed

Tbf it's normal to not know who the Queen's daughter is. She's been in like 3 scenes for barely any time and I'm not sure anyone had actually said her name.

There's a lot of kids and time skips and then more kids but also the same kids but different actors.

This show is pretty good, better than I expected. It does not have the high end quality that GOT had at the beginning nor the scope or depth. But it has few lowlights (Daemon's silly one man army nonsense) and each of the recent episodes had scenes, where the tension was palpable and I was at the edge of my seat waiting for shit to go down.

The time jumps are a bit unfortunate, but understandable. Young Rhaenyra was a big loss. She had something more than the adult version.

Viserys is off the charts, though. That a "weak" King is carrying the show is remarkable. He is second to nobody in the whole GOT universe. Masterful performance. And his deterioration and death are scarily realistic (well, maybe except for the eye) as many who have seen people grow old, sick and die can confirm. The actor, directors and stylists did an amazing job.
He's got a non contagious version of Leprosy so would lose body parts including eyes.

I agree it's not a big miss.

Also I feel like the casting for older Aegon & Aemond would've been better switched, no?

Aegon was taller and slimmer with long hair, Aemond had a slightly fuller face and was shorter with shorter hair. As adults they've completely switched.

Yeah, I understand. It just felt wrong to say it that way in connection with what followed in my sentence as I guess most people who have seen someone grow old, sick and die did not have to witness someone loose an eye.

Fair point.

I agree. looking at them put me off. I was hold on it wasn't the eldest son that lost an eye.

100%. I guess the actor for Aemond looks far better as the villain, but the younger versions are completely the other way round

Ok ok people. I get it, the queen's daughter not another maid

But ignoring that, that scene (and the follow-up) still felt like the queen was 'taking care' of the issue by silencing her for good

I mean younger brothers can outgrow their older brothers...

He'll isn't Daemon taller than viserys?

It's not just that. It's also the face shape, the hair, etc.. Aemond was also more spiteful and that seemed to be what older Aegon was doing. Whereas younger Aegon was quick witted and snappy, but older Aemond was acting that way with the 'Strong' jokes.

Losing an eye and getting beaten up by your cousins, some of which are girls which matters in this time period, might make you a bit spiteful. Especially to your cousins.

Aegon is a glutteness drunk who doesn't care for much, is how I read him when he younger. I still read him as just that. He was still making his shit jokes at dinner too.

Amazing performance by Paddy Considine, tbf the whole season. Right up there with any of the performances in the GOT series.

Considine is carrying the show to an absurd degree.

It would be watchable without him but probably nothing very special but he's brilliant and makes the show brilliant. The entrance and walk to the throne was heartbreaking.

Didn’t realise it was leprosy. I remember hearing about a king in the universe who died from infections due to the wounds he got from sitting on the throne. Thought this was the same one.

I was referring to when the Queen gave the servant the potion, had a look that made me think she was killing the servant. My pardons for bringing you to despair and feeling the need to swear at me.

I have no idea who Halaena is though.

I think part of the point of that scene was in how she reacted to Rhaenyra taking the tea when she was younger and then how she is now using the tea with the flings of her son. There must have been an element of hypocrisy and maybe guilt.

That was a great scene, I genuinely felt sad for him. He tried his best to be a good king.

Watched Last Night's episode and it's all coming together nicely. However I can't be the only one wondering why Prince Aemond looks so much older than his supposedly three years older brother and pretty much everyone else

Ok clearly not the only one  it is really jarring Aemond looks like a man and adjust looks a match for Daemon

Why is Aegon married to his sister? I'd like them to explain that to at least some degree.

Agree, funny I remembered him as the Buffon cop from Hot Fuzz before this. He's was good in this show, especially in scenes with the Hand (who I know from an Oasis video :D), but this last episode was great.

They talked about it briefly in the last episode.

What a show, where the height of characters generates more discuss than one of them banging their sister

He's not though. He's too busy forcing himself on maids.
The thing about the new actors is that it's jarring how the two characters have changed into opposites of what they were.

It's what they do and have always done, they love a bit of incest. it's why madness tends to run in the family, too, and increased illness. Hence the Mad King in Game of Thrones.

I didn't realise it was that common at the sibling level, were people not quite miffed by the whole uncle and niece element of the other 2?

You realise Cerci and Jaime were twins in GoT? It's one of GRRM's kinks.
It does have president in history though. the Ptolemy dynasty was built on incest often brother to sister.

That was only because Rhaenera was promised to someone else and wasn't "pure" anymore, I think. If I recall, Daemon had previously been suggested as a suitor for her to Viserys but he turned it down because of the issues between them, not because it was frowned upon.

Paddy Considine making top 10 lists for best actor and Elden Ring boss in one episode...

Another great episode, it (almost) felt like a very fitting end for Viserys who I really grew to like. He had his flaws, but ultimately he was trying to do the right thing. The peace he seemed to find during the dinner was touching. However the decision to have confusion over Aegon's dream is something I can't wrap my head around. I'm really amazed they went with this. It's a cheap attempt to try and absolve Alicent from whatever part she plays in trying to put Aegon on the throne. It completely lacks any of the nuance that this show has exhibited about the moral ambiguity of characters choices.... such a cop out.

 He really did look like one.

Eh I quite like things snowballing from a misunderstanding if it's done well. Some of the good plot points in shows and film have come from that. Burn After Reading, Lewbowki, Arrested Development made it their whole show.

Can't say I agree. The older one is a drunken buffoon like he was when he was younger.

The younger one looks like a murderous cnut, which is exactly what he was when he was younger. He picked up that rock first. Hes not exactly a massive fan of his cousins/nephews that gave him a pig to ride, beat him up and took his eye? That's not surprising is it?

I'm on about how they look.

People were upset about it because Daemon was married and Rhaenyra is meant to be saving herself for marriage. No one batted an eye about the incest aspect of it as that's just typical Targaryens being Targaryens.

The part where Daemon helps him. :(
Then there was the other Daemon part.
