Higuain´s foul against Neuer

Neuer has the right to go for the ball and so does Higuain. Not a penalty.

i see, and even if you are right and both have the right to go to the ball anyway then can ... then why was higuain's foul?
That was just bad from the ref, of course it wasn't a foul from Higuain.

I don't speak Spanish, but please don't tell me you want a penalty for that. Neuer clearly punches the ball and then falls on Higuain. He can't just vanish into thin air... If a defender tackled and clearly intercepted the ball and then his other foot made contact with the attacker, would you ask for a pen to be given?

There doesn't need to be a set piece every time a collision occurs.
People will connect and sometimes it'll hurt.. a lot, but that's part and parcel of a game with grown men sprinting at full speed.

There's not always somebody to blame or a foul to be given.
It was just a throw in. Referee bottled it and messed up.

i was asking how was that Higuains foul

What annoyed me is that goalkeepers 90% of the time that there is contact with them will get the foul even if they initiate it, like tonight, it shouldn't have been a free kick to Germany but an Argentina throw-in.

If an outfield player goes up and wins a header like that and cleans the opponent up, it's foul. It has nothing to do with winning the ball, he still made dangerous contact with the opponent.

It was a truly horrible decision.

I can accept others opinions but for me, if that's an outfield player doing that winning a header, it's a foul every day of the week. Too many keepers take advantage of this rule knowing they can put a hit on a striker with knowledge that the ref won't do anything.

I find this frustrating in football, the inconsistancy, there are so many tackles made where a player gets the ball but in the follow through gets the player as well but no foul given.

Completely agree, clear foul I thought.

By the way was the ball definitely in the box when Neuer punched it? My initial reaction was it wasn't, but have yet to see a good angle to judge.

A lot of people don't realise winning the ball has nothing to do with the awarding of a foul. You can win the ball and still give away a foul in the same way that you don't need to make contact with your opponent for it to be a foul.

OK then, as i said i don't speak Spanish so i thought that some people were discussing if a pen could be given. It's certainly a throw in for Argentina and not a foul, but tbh i don't think this is thread worthy. Anyway sorry if i sounded offensive in my previous post.

Im not being a jerk here but I have gone blank, when do we commit a foul without making contact with the player in 1v1 challenges?

Neuer and Higuan went for the ball.

Neuer reached the ball, Higuan didn't.

The end.

If Neuer was a pk, so was Garay. So its laughable what the argies are doing, blaming the ref because they couldn't score.

The two aren't even nearly comparable. Neuer leaps into Higuain recklessly, Garay is just going for a standard tackle when Kramer runs into his shoulder, an unfortunate accident.

Since when does reaching the ball give you license to challenge however you want? If someone makes a two footed tackle, reaching the ball with one, but catching the player with his studs with the other foot, he gets sent off.

Should've been a throw in for Argentina as it wasn't a foul from Higuain. BUT it was also not a penalty.

Yeah, except that it wasn't a two footed tacke, a studs up tackle or anything of the sorts.

The goalkeeper jumps to punch a ball. Obviously the goalkeeper has a body attached to his hands. Thus he makes contact with Higuan. No part of Neuer went for Higuan... a throw in would have been acceptable, but the decision was correct IMO. Both players went to the ball in a fair manner, one player was too late. Hence he is penalised.

Ye because a knee to the head is in no way dangerous, imagine a defender going in like that.

so it was higuain's foul, that's what you are saying?

Exactly. Just because he suffered more, it doesn't mean it wasn't his foul.

Neuer was the only player to play the ball, Higuain did not, he fouled Neuer

If the defender comes flying in with the intention to hurt the player or if the defender impedes the players chances of getting to the ball without making a play at the ball etc. There are a few ways this can happen.

Think about it this way, if you have a gun and shoot at someone and miss, it's still a crime.

I dunno if you've ever jumped. But moving your legs does give you an advantage when you try.

Jesus, do people want it to be a non-contact sport. Neuer has to go for that ball, it's goalkeeping, it's part of defending. There was a similar incident in the first half with Romero and Klose, but Klose pulled out as he realised Romero was going to win it. Higuain had that option too. Good goalkeeping, nothing more. Don't know where the ref found a foul in it though.

Exactly. There will be collisions. Sometimes painful collisions that end a players night, but unfortunately that happens when players run and jump as they do. They collided, and unfortunately it was painful for Higuain. Throw in.

Both have the right to go for the ball and Neuer was the one who got there. It should've been a throw in but that's it.

Should have been a throw in for Argentinia, but its pretty useless to discuss that situation. Its not like it would have made a big difference. The Ref got many decisions wrong in that final.

i see, then kramer fouled Garay with his head on Garays shoulder

LOL. Kramer did not foul Garay, he had possesion of the ball.

Like I said before, you argies build a straw_man, you focus all on the colission and then cry and blame the ref. But the ref was right, in both cases. The most important thing was not the collision, but who had the possesion of the ball. Neuer played the ball, Higuain did not, He fouled Neuer. The ref was right.

No way its a foul. Not a penalty either.

It was a meaningless throw-in eitherway, the foul decision doesn't make any difference.
