Sad to see him go. Masterclass from woodward in extending Jones and Young and dilly dallying on Herrera until his final year.

that's interesting, and surprisingly went un noticed at the timeNot on Ed this one... Here's Ander last April saying he wouldn't stay even though he had an offer.

Not in the squad. It's a shame, I would have liked to see him play for us one last time.
He won't be there five years, but it makes sure they will get something for him.I’ve read somewhere that PSG are offering a five year contract for £200k a week. Yeah I like Herrera but I’m somewhat glad we’re not matching those terms taking into account his age of 30 this year. At the end of the day we can do better.
Still, we're losing him on a free. The best time to negatiate a player extension is when there is two years left on his contract. That way if you don't reach an agreement, you can sell them at market price. Otherwise, with a year left you will be fleeced by the buying club knowing that you are desperate to sell, and in the final year you will be fleeced by the player on wages knowing that they can walk to anyone for free as it is happening with Herrera. Not on Ed this one... These idiots would say the same thing if Henderson played for us instead of Liverpool. Not a single Liverpool midfield player is a great player on their own. In squads, not every player can be a great player but everyone needs to do a job.
Would it not be better to give minutes to one of the youth players or even one of the senior guys who actually want to play for Man United?
If that actually happens then great, but it's more likely to be the usual suspects.
Valencia is getting a send off after all.
Does the release of that video mean he’s not playing today then? Otherwise he doesn’t need a video when OT can potentially give him a better send off? Or are the club nervous of negative fan reactions today after the season we’ve had?

That's a nice theory an all but the lad has refused to extend his stay with us for 2 years now pretty much. Sanchez wasn't at the club and Pogba only arrived at the time and he was refusing to stay.
Someone posted an interview he gave in Spain where he admitted in April last year he was unlikely to stay at United.
If money is his motivation that's his personal choice but a large section of our supporter base is creating narratives that quite clearly don't exist to justify his actions in leaving.
He won't be there five years, but it makes sure they will get something for him.
He will have made his money then, so think he would take a big paycut and go home.So nobody else wanted him on a free at £200k p/w at age 29, but when he's 33 they'll be happy to pay a fee and give him £200k a week... If he's such a bargain at £200k where were Barca, Real or Bayern in all this?
Amazing how flip flop this forum is, one week it's we pay insane wages, next it's we should have paid Herrera a week what Liverpool pay Salah.
Well in that case, the only thing we can blame the club for is not selling him once he had that interview. However, I guess they thought they could convince him to stay.He was offered a deal at least 2 years ago and simply chose to stall. This interview is from 13 months ago where he admits talks have already been on going but his preference even then was to let the deal run down and walk away for free. He had no desire for the club to make money back on him, about as two faced as you could get basically.
If folks want to rewind a bit here, this means Ander was offered a deal before Sanchez was at the club so this rhetoric going around he is "protesting" Sanchez's wage is rubbish.
Likewise for Smalling, Jones & Young. The latter of those took a pay cut to hang round another year, but Ander wanted two and half times more than his current salary.
Smalling & Jones only got new deals in the last few months.
Yet Ander has admitted his mind was made up long ago he would walk for free.

The club were absolutely stupid giving him a platform to say his goodbye. Now they've created more toxicity because fans are dragging the decision makers, when the fact is he'd already made up his mind.
Just more depressing negativity.
He didn't say that.
He said: "Voy a cumplir el año que me queda pero no sé si renovaré. Hemos empezado a hablar pero no hay nada decidido todavía." Or "I am going to fulfill the year that I have left but I do not know if I will renew. We have started talking but nothing has been decided yet."
Oh I wasn’t suggesting what you were saying was wrong. I’ve been guilty of fanboy-ing him in the past.
End of the day he’s being offered way more money at a club in the CL, mickey mouse league or not. Even if he’s a bench warmer, it’s not a lot different to his time here which has been on and off.
We should be aiming higher in our calibre of player though, I don’t think it’s particularly hard to buy a better midfielder for a modest price. This club just make it hard work thanks to the muppets at all levels.
I didn't watch the video, but I guess a lot of fans did. Mind, I'm working to avoid the negativity around us at the moment and have other sports to distract meThe goodbye video sums up what's wrong with the club right now - complicating a simple situation. Both club and Herrera deserve a thundering slap for putting that together. No complaints but just leave quietly.
Herrera chose to run his contract down so he can leave on a free. That doesn't deserve a send off.If that actually happens then great, but it's more likely to be the usual suspects.

Yes, that’s the kind of club they are.Is it me or did the links to PSG take flight after we beat them in the CL? Can't help but feel they turned his head to mess with us for knocking them out, wouldn't be suprised.
Because he chose not to sign the contract on offer despite there being discussions since at least last season. Can someone explain to me why/how Herrera who arguably is one of the better players in the squad, is let go, when in the same season we gave a 33-year old Ashley Young a new contract at more than 100K a week, Jones and Smalling also got given new contracts all for more than 100K a week.
I don't think Young/Jones are better than Herrera, (yes I know they play different positions). Smalling maybe on par.
Crazy?

Why argue over semantics? The thought of leaving was clearly already there.
