Have you ever bought an opposition teams shirt?

haven’t bought any, but if any of the lad’s teams are playing each other, we swap shirts in the pub at the end of the game.

When I went to LA in my teens, I got an LA Galaxy shirt with Beckham on the back. I still loved Beckham and it was quite a nice shirt.

Stopped buying football shirts a long ago though.

I got a united shirt as a gift. My American future sister and brother in law at the time thought all football teams were the same and watched me unwrap that shirt. I had to pretend I was excited. I regifted.

Not gonna lie, I don’t think I could do this the other way round

Had to pretend even though they knew I was from Liverpool. My future brother in law was a Yankees fan. I was tempted to give him a Red Sox shirt the following year

When I was a kid yeah. Not many kits were available back home and those who were available were really expensive. Going on holiday to Spain and seeing a shop that only sold kits for the 1/4th price of one back home was mental to me so I went mental and bought those I though were cool.

Bought one as an adult. The 1988 Netherlands one.

Maybe they got confused by seeing you posting regularly on a Man Utd forum for about a quarter of a century, like

I bought me and my 9 year old son Ajax jerseys when we were in Holland couple of years ago. Didn't think too deeply about it, (have Dutch in-laws) but yeah wouldn't wear any other domestic teams jersey.

Quite open to international jerseys mind.

When I was young and not so much into football I bought a Fiorentina shirt while on holiday in Italy because I thought the purple was purrty. Funny thing is that I still have a soft spot for that club even though I seldomly watch them.

Well you do have good taste.

There is a picture of me as a little kid in a Bayern shirt with Effenberg on the back

But yeah I’ve owned Inter, Ajax, Milan over the years. Even had a Parma one at one point. Someone gifted me a Villa shirt as a prank when I was at uni. Never wore it but kept it for years.

I have a Barcelona jersey from when I was a kid and a São Paulo FC jersey from when I worked in the city for an extended period.

I honestly would rather buy my son a Feyenoord jersey than a PSV one. Luckily he was raised well.
Yeah in all honesty I sort of agree. PSV is just so, I dunno. I get supporting PSV when you're from Brabant, but what Hagenees supports PSV.

Honestly though, it's just bad luck of him being 5 years old in a period when PSV wins everything domestically. Small kids like winning. This is also obviously the only reason so many people support Ajax :p

Got a juve and inter shirt when I was a kid but nothing else.

Not bought a football kit since I was about 18 though.

Had Real Betis pants and dressing gown when I was a kid

I was given one of Ray Wilkins' old Chelsea shirts. A mate of mine used to work catering at Stamford Bridge and I used to visit him there once in a while. On a whim, I asked for a shirt as a souvenir and got one of Butch's cast-offs from this hamper they had full of old kit.

Nah, closest I came was my mum buying me a random Sunderland away shirt and a Sheffield Wednesday home one as a kid for my first two football shirts. Not much money - charity shop finds. Think new United shirts were £10 - £20 at the time, these would have been 10p or 25p. I remember panini sticker albums and on the back cover of one of them there was a big ad, advertising United and Liverpool kits, could never have afforded them.

Didn't mind wearing what I got to football practice at all.

I don't know if it's just because I had childhood memories attached to them, but I find them pleasing to look at. Aesthetics etc, think they're cool kits.

In the toilets, and you end up putting each other's clothes back on yeah.

I’m a collector of jerseys but the only club shirts I have that aren’t United are Ronaldo Inter, Riquelme Boca Juniors, Beckham Real Madrid (I got it at the Adidas outlet for $15, didn’t actively look to buy it), Grimsby Town, 2 Toronto FC and an AC Milan shirt that my uncle got for my brother that he was going to throw out so I took it.

I have tons of international kits as well. If I like a player and they don’t play for us I’ll just get their international kit like Messi for example. Having said that I’m certainly not the fan that loves all the good players. I’ll acknowledge he was a good player but feck Henry, id never buy a shirt of his.

I bought a Dortmund one when I was a kid, I loved Marco Reus so had his name on the back. Was gutted we never signed him.

I haven't, but once, when I was a kid, my dad was visiting the UK and he brought home a Liverpool shirt, with Owen on the back of it, as a gift to me. For some reason he thought I'd like it just because I resembled Owen in being quite small and quick, also playing as a forward. Remember being really disappointed, but I still wore it at training.

He also bought me an Aston Villa beanie.

Got given a couple of Ajax shirts as corporate freebies. They were quite nice, but seldom worn.

Every time I travel to a different country I buy a football shirt of the local side or national team but I buy the knock off versions never official. I then use them in rotation for any sporting activity I do.

My wife, when we were just dating, went to Rome with her family and knew this about me. She brought me a knock off AS Roma shirt. Still one of the best souvenirs I’ve been gifted.

I’d never buy another PL or English club shirt though I did get bought a Liverpool shirt by an Uncle who isn’t an uncle (funnily enough @tob he also said it’s because I reminded him of Owen). He also bought me my first ever football kit (Barca with Ronaldo on the back).

I’ll continue this tradition with my two boys (the foreign knock off kits) but they’ll only have official United ones, from me at least.

Tell a lie I do have an official AZ Alkmaar kit too. But that’s the only other one.
