Has political correctness actually gone mad?

Hopefully 2018 will be less PC.

You mean that 2017, the year Donald ”pussy grabber” Trump became the world’s most powerful man and sexual abusers were exposed en masse, was PC?

Well I mean a lot of people got angry and upset at these things happening, and those people need to calm the feck down and stop being so PC.

I think you are confusing PC with common sense. Being upset by pussy grabbing and war-mongering is about as PC as getting angry about a wrongfully disallowed goal in a World Cup final.

I was joking although getting upset by pussy grabbing is at least a bit PC.

I have nothing to do with the dumb Americans who voted for Trump
I have problem with me having to think through every sentence i say cause someone might get offended by it, it's come to the point where i'm afraid to say the word "black" when i talk about chess.
Everyone gets offended by everything these days, and it's getting on my tits.

There’s a bit of a difference between some people (usually not the most understanding of folks) getting stupidly angry about someone who’s blatantly said something unintentionally hurtful (take your pick) and you taking an attitude of “I should just be able to say anything I damn like.”

The latter is usually someone just being a bit of a cnut and it rightfully gets highlighted when appropriate (if someone can even bothered to waste their energy on a typically ignorant person).

One of the most obvious problems now is people hiding under the phrase of “sure they call you racist/sexist for anything now” whilst they say blatantly racist/sexist things. Not everyone is a ‘snowflake’ because they call you out on it.

If that's how you seriously feel you need to give yourself a slap. It's not hard to go about your day to day business without offending anyone. In fact it's pretty fecking easy. On the occasion that you do, just apologise, move on and learn from it.

Really don't understand why fear of causing offence is so debilitating to some of you, do you have Tourettes?

Tell you what, we'll try to help you out. What words are you scared of saying? We'll tell you if they're offensive and if so what you could replace them with. Black is ok btw...

Snowflake. When I was young, we had to accept societal developments. Nowadays, people have the luxury of getting pissed off online for imaginary political correctness when playing chess.

If your regular, everyday vocabulary contains enough potentially offensive words that you have to think twice before opening your mouth, the problem might be you.

If your a regular guy without any weird opinions on minorities, the chances of inadvertently offending someone are marginal. And if you do, just apologize and move on. It's not rocket surgery.

I think one of the problems right now are those who might be a perfectly decent person, but on occasion blurt out 'fag', or they call someone 'gay'. If they're called out, they feel bad or embarrassed, and they don't like being made to feel bad or embarrassed, so in their eyes, the person who made them feel like that is actually the one who did something wrong. After all, they've done nothing wrong, and never meant to offend or make someone feel bad, so they shouldn't be made to feel bad either.

I don't go around offending people, or say anything offensive (neither racist or sexist), but it feels that all some people do, is trying to catch you saying or doing something that might offend someone.

I slap myself on a regular basis, thank you very much!
As i replied to Minimalist, i don't usually say things that are offensive to people, so i rarely come in situations where i have to apologize, defend myself, or even slap myself.
I don't think i have tourettes, but i start to wonder sometimes, cause i say alot of silly stuff in real life (nothing to do with this though)
I know i tend to shy away from conflicts and arguments, that might be the reason why.

When you were young? Doubt you're older than me, if you are, not much atleast.
I always treat people the same, no matter who they are, so i rarely get in trouble for saying non-PC things, so i should probably not have written the post about hoping this year will be less PC.
Just a bit frustrating reading shit online, in forums or newspapers, some of the things people are offended for, are just stupid, and in my opinion, they want to be offended, just to have an argument.

Yeah, as i replied to the other ladies, i'm this guy, except that i offend people i know know me well enough to know i'm just taking the piss ;)

As someone who is both online and on forums, I am very offended by being called “shit”.

Sorry, I had to.

Too sensitive. What does that even mean tho? Everyone is different, has different experiences, differing perspectives. We shouldn't really be telling people what they should or shouldn't be sensitive about and to what extent, especially without knowing them or their experiences/perspective.

It's really simple to just do you and let other people do them... Without offending each other or being a dick obviously.

Bet you're called worse on regular basis

A lot of people in modern society are highly sensitive, & often offended, when other people simply have a different point of view. Non-platforming in some universities is an ideal case in point. One person's non-PC rhetoric is another one's freedom of speech. Who gets to say which is which ?

Your post is wishy washy. Give examples.

Someone saying 'blackface isn't offensive' is a different point of view. They can say it but people sensitive to it are going to pull them up on it. Are you arguing that the sensitive person is being unreasonable? Freedom of speech doesn't mean that you can't get pulled up on what you say does it? It just means you're free to say it.

Never mind the fact that of all the things to fight over why would the right to offend be one of them?

Pretty disgusting to be fair. And for breakfast?!

That’s an incredibly simple view of things.

For a start the ‘non platforming’ is such a small issue. Even if it’s not always the best way to deal with cnuts like Shapiro or Milo, it’s still within the rights of these university’s to do so. But again, it gets a lot of noise from a small amount of people (most people at university couldn’t give a feck about this shite).

If you think that anyone has the right to a platform to spout their opinion or give a talk, you’re wrong. That’s nothing to do with free speech.

Most disgusting part there is the tomato sauce bottle being the wrong way round.

But, but, but.... Marxists and post-modernists?!
