Has political correctness actually gone mad?

Found his point a whole lot more compelling than yours tbf. What with all your hyperbole versus his reasoned arguements.

Shock horror, as someone who is clearly a huge SJW prefers the arguments being put forward by somebody who wants to remove offensive cartoons.

His arguments are so reasonable that the vast majority of people find his point to be ludicrous and he has been roundly slated. Go figure.

YouTube isnt a good measure of mainstream opinion. Most people who have accounts on there are 4chan nazis or 13 year olds who think steppenwolf was the peak of music.

True, but it's hardly out of line with mainstream opinion .. pretty much all polling shows that people dislike the idea of political correctness, with majorities thinking it has gone too far.

Also, kids are going to flock ever faster to mediums like youtube if you tone down all their cartoons. Kids like to rebel and be edgy.

That’s not what he’s saying though, you realise that right?
No, but he's equating being called 'whitey' or 'mayonnaise' with calling a black person 'dumb n*****', which is about as bad.
Look at how disliked this guys documentary trailer was
Like on reddit, sometimes things on YT end up attracting the attention of the 'wrong' crowd, and that will be reflected in the feedback left. And since 90% of the people leaving feedback are thick as shit, you'd have to be pretty fecking stupid to judge the quality of a product based on their opinions.

I've heard it all now. Guess it doesn't take much to be labeled an SJW nowadays...

And here you are still crying over a (singular) character being written out of a (singular) cartoon.

Has anyone argued that apu isnt a racist character? Or just that its mild racism or that other characters are also racist?
Like others have said, it's a cartoon based on stereotypes. Braindead alcoholics, evil businessmen, fat lazy cops .. the list goes on and on. The message it sends out is that you're ok showing negative stereotypes about certain demographics, but others are protected.

Lovely SJW argument. Anybody who disagrees with our opinion is thick as shit. What makes people on youtube any less intelligent than people watching daytime tv?

This will definitely come across really well and will not push people further away.

I don't care about the cartoon, I care about how pushing hard on issues like this has consequences.

You take away peoples favourite characters while ignoring others, tell them if they disagree they're ignorant and stupid, then get people like @Sweet Square goading them by telling them that white men are being replaced har har har ...

Then you're surprised when they push back and vote for people like Trump. Small matters like this add up, of course the cartoon isn't fecking important but you keep poking the bear.

You're having a full on mare I'll leave you to it, footballs on.

Where do you fit in? Would you vote trump because the sjws just kept pushing you?

Man, you've made it your mission to really ensure that there's nothing but shards left when you're through with that glass house.

No, but I'm not a huge fan of continually provoking the people who do. And since political correctness consistently polls as being incredibly unpopular, I don't think it's a good idea to ignore it as a factor when somebody like that gets elected.

For the record, I think that's a troll thread. Partly because the two statements don't compare in the slightest, as you rightly mentioned. Partly because they are not mentioning a subreddit and each subreddit is moderated differently. You can't make a sweeping statement about reddit.

That said, there can be a disparity between what is deemed permissible to be said depending on race. May I remind you Sarah Jeong who didn't get fired, didn't even apologise for the below tweets.

Meanwhile, we have Police giving community orders and tagging teenagers who post screenshots of Snoop Dogg lyrics on instagram, because they contain a racial epithet:

fight the good fight brother, i too only believe things that have high ratings in opinion polls

I'm generally not a fan of completely ignoring public opinion, but y'know .. guess that's just me and my belief that people should be listened to rather than called stupid.

Ok so you're not a trump supporter, just trump adjacent

You are 100% wrong.
IMO the "politically correct"* course of action for any minority is to accept a low level racism and stereotyping. Because any attempt to wipe that out is met with a disproportionate political backlash. The relatively less drastic loss of power among the majority is perceived as a genuine and massive loss, probably because it is coupled with the actual loss of privilege (like the legal outlawing of gross discrimination). There is not point riling up the majority for this.
I'm only talking about culture such as entertainment media rather anything of substance change. Nothing in terms of fight against racism or structural racism will change by the culture changing and that's why I find it so frustration that things that ''anti racist'' nike campaign were celebrated but I do think it will be the future of capitalism because of who has the consumer power.

But the anger over the loss of privilege, is the marjory actually angry over this. Christ I don't want to make this argument but Clinton's campaign based its ''progressive'' side on nothing more than cultural signifiers and won by millions of votes. This is what I meant by the ''SJW'' winning but comes with a catch......it's a completely empty victory.

Yes, that helped get him elected. The planet is rapidly dying and people like you are obsessed with triggering the sjws.

At what point have I expressed a desire to trigger anybody?

The planet dying has absolutely nothing to do with this discussion. It's also pretty easy to turn that on its head by saying that SJWS are obsessed with getting offensive cartoons banned, rather than helping the planet.

Do you genuinely think that labelling anybody who dislikes political correctness 'trump adjacent' is a sensible way to go about creating change? You're alienating a huge number of people.

of feck, he's about to wander into our conspiracy to alienate old rich people so hard it'll be legal to deport them

That'll be pretty hard when they have the army and police force on side, but good luck buddy.

I'm sure you and antifa can take them on though.

*not in the sense of the thread title

From my side, I would say that shows with racial stereotypes shouldn’t be part of kids TV. Kids generally show little empathy and can be very mean. I can imagine as an Indian kid having schoolmates that call you Apu or spam you with “thank you, come again” remarks and I can’t imagine it being pleasant. It becomes another stick to be beat with.

As an adult though you are both far more unlikely to be hit with those remarks (cause the majority of the adults are more mature) and far more capable at dealing with it. I haven’t seen the movie but I’ve seen his interviews. He seems mostly hurt about the teasing he received as a kid, he didn’t mention (from what I saw) the stereotype being used against him as an adult.

It's clear from your posts calling everyone sjws who disagrees with you. And no you cant just turn it around. You might feel the "sjws" are wrong but they believe they are defending minorities against racism. Which is far more important than defending cartoons against liberal overreach.

Anyone who constantly goes on about sjws or posts on 4chan can get fecked, to be honest. Theyve alienated themselves from any decent society.

The Apu thing is dumb to me. Literally every character is a stereotype in the Simpsons. Cletus is a redneck married to his cousin, Willie is an angry drunken Scottish man, the 2 Italian characters are a Mafia boss and a Chef who sounds like Mario, Wiggum is a donut loving cop who resembles a pig. If you're cutting a character for being an 'offensive stereotype' then you may as well just cancel the show.

Don't forget Krusty the sell-out unprincipled Jewish entertainer.
