Has Martial done enough to be backed as our long-term #9?

Anthony needs to work harder off and on the ball. We know the ability is there, but I see very little hunger to deliver results.

No, I don't think he has it in him to be our number 9. He has flashes, but he's quite simply not consistent enough as a player, and doesn't score enough goals.

There was a moment the other night, just before half time ... Bruno got the ball and was delaying for AGES with his head up waiting for Martial to make a run. Martial was between 2 Spurs defenders just ambling along looking at Bruno. No effort to make the run. I know this is just one moment in a game, but we see moments like this EVERY game.

He will have a game every 4 or 5 games where he's just insanely good, and looks amazing. But ... all the other games he ranges between average to pants. From time to time he saves himself with a goal or two despite below par performances.

Overall, I think he'd be a fantastic squad player. But he's not good enough to be our number 9 in my opinion. Just too inconsistent. I'd love for him to make me eat my words.

Hes quietly having a great season. He has missed 2 months as well due to injury

You see, you have an left footed RW who has the ability to cut in then everyone plays closer to him.

James was a weakness for him.

You cant play crossers of the ball with a support striker.

He becomes a more clinical player with the ability to play like the glue that brings Rashford and Greenwood close together.

You said it so many times mate. We're looking much better with a left-footer like Greenwood in there.

And Wan Bissaka has acres of space. The RW is his now to defend or attack and Greenwood plays as a RF not a RW just like Rashford plays as a LF and not a LW.

Very minor differences but it makes so much difference to what a player like Martial is used as.

So does he have enough talent? It's shameful how some players are treated here.

And Wan-Bissaka with the assist. Again spot on.

Finish like a true no 9. Hopefully people can start see his talent & potential as no 9 now. Very good finish for both goal.

Amazing what happens when you get good service with creative players on the pitch...

I don't get any criticism he got Friday night, by far our sharpest attacker at the moment with Rashford especially looking off the pace

Should be on a hat trick if he didn’t try to pass to rashford. He will still get one if he grinds for it. It was always there to see he that he is a quality player. Play your best players and everyone benefits.

Should have an assist to his name too. Good performance so far.

If he keeps playing like this getting into the right positions and finishing chances then its sorted

I'm desperate for a hat trick Tony...

Indeed, I didn't get it either. The players around him barely brought him into the game and somehow that got shown up to be his fault.

When it rains, it pours. Best finisher at the Club so far.

Who's better? He's always felt the most clinical to me/one I feel most confident would finish a chance if it fell to him
It's probably between him and Greenwood for the top 2. Arguably he is #1 given he's shown it over a longer period.

I don't have a problem with Martial, and feel based on this season, he has done enough to be backed. Yes, he wasn't as involved as we'd have liked, and it'd have been nice to see him get his shot off quicker, but that will come back with match sharpness. Martial will continue to shine very soon. Fancy him to bag against Sheff Utd.

He's always been a very good finisher, he's had a very long time of not recieving good enough chances on a regular basis to reflect in the goal numbers that everyone wants.

Two proper #9 goals today (so far). It's something he hasn't historically done often enough, so it is certainly encouraging.
