Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part I

Got 2/5 stars in both The Times and The Guardian.

83% fresh from the critics on Rotten Tomatoes with an average rating of 7/10.

Not bad.

Just got back from watching it, it was kind of disappointing to say the least. Don't expect too much from it would be my advice. It's the appetiser to the second part and it shows.

The rating by the Times and Guardian would be fair. If you're a fan, you'll still watch it even if it's crap. If you're not a fan, let's just say you won't be too fussed about missing this, although you might need to watch this to understand the plot for the second part next year.

The problem is the past films have been really good partly because the supporting cast was so bloody brilliant. I haven't read the books so have no idea where the story goes, but i'd assume the supporting cast isn't as important as it has been. So you automatically lose part of the charm.

I could well be talking bollocks though having not read the book :)

You're right, the plot of the film(first part of the book) focuses on the main characters and it loses a lot of it's shine when compared to the previous films. POZ is still the best imo.

So far I liked the 5th movie the best followed by third. I hope the 7th one is pretty good. I m excited for tomorrow.

Agreed the 3rd one is the best for me a little fact I didnt know till a few weeks ago Ian Brown of the Stone Roses has a mini cameo apparently good friends with the director.

Weird, cuz the 5th is my least favorite, simply because nothing really happened there. 3rd and 4th are probably the best.

I thought Prisoner of Azkaban and Order of the Phoenix were the best movies. Half blood prince was terrible.

Personally, the parts I really want to see are The Battle of Hogwarts and Hermione being captured and tortured, which I guess happens in the 2nd part.

The Battle for Hogwarts was probably the most pathetic battle in the history of the fantasy genre.

Nothing happens in the last few books, J.K. literally had no idea how to end it and bottled it on several big decisions. The 3rd film was the best because the 3rd book was the best, closely followed by the Goblet of Fire. Other than that the series tends swerve from mildly entertaining to brain-numbingly retarded.

Exactly. The Battle of Hogwarts should have been something fantastic but turned out to be rubbish.

The series was great for the 1st 3 books, the 4th one was pretty good as well. Order of the Phoenix and Half Blood Prince were all about setting up the 7th book and hence boring. Even the final book was not all that great. It's one of the most overrated fantasy series imo.

I thought it was the battle was great the final book isnt my best my still a good read.

Just saw the film I thought the it was excellent don't know if its better then Azkaban yet need to see it again.

Saw the movie. Some parts were brilliant. The story of the 3 brothers and the Dobby parts. Overall I found it rather slow though. The last half hour or so was fun.

The sequence where the deathly hallows were being described was fantastic

Some good scenes in the film, but overall my impressions could be summed up by quoting Voldemort from Film 4:

'I confess myself, disappointed'

A bloody brilliant movie. Some people might have found parts of the movie. I kinda have no complaints. Okay bring on the "OMG" and "What are you talking about". Bring it on!

How exactly do you insert spoilers?

Type [*SPOILER] & [*/SPOILER] (but remove the "*") before and after whatever you want to hide.

Decent movie, too slow in parts though. They really shouldnt have split it into two.

Not my cup of tea. If I was 9 years old perhaps but it really seems a bit shallow whenever I've seen bits of the films / heard my wife reading it to the kids. The author seems to have looked around for elements of other kids / fantasy literature and hashed them all together clumsily. The prose seems to be somewhat lacking - I can't imagine these books stretch kids' literary development. In fact I imagine many of the younger generation probably don't read them and just watch the films.

Gay lords.

I dont understand the negative reviews on this film, I enjoyed it thoroughly. The best film so far by miles, it has progressed massively since the first few films which I found a bit too childish.
Anyone who suggests it should have been condensed to one film is clearly clueless, if anything then it has already been condensed too much.

Is the scene where Harry is destroying hourcrux in Goddricks Hollow pretty good? When I read the book I just had the most vivid imagination of what was happening and the whole snake and Voldemort rushing through the air towards the house.

that was the bit i was most disappointed with in the film

Wasn't expecting much, but I thought it was alright.

My favourite bit by far was the animated sequence describing the Deathly Hallows, thought that was brilliant.

Does seem a bit jumpy, and incredibly boring in parts, but I did enjoy it.

I'd say on a scale of 1-10, I'd give it a 5.

I do agree it was a little disappointing I think its a great moment in the book you see the statue, see more of the house that blew up all the support writing on the wall and you spend more time in the grave yard. In the film you don't see half of that and its over in about a minute. Also after the snake scene in the book you see the night Harrys parents got killed you see it from Voldermorts view wish they would have kept that in.

Nah I went from a bit above average to best in my primary school for reading comprehension from reading Harry Potter.
