Harry Maguire

Is he better than we have, if yes we need to sign him simple as that, hows his injury record?

Don’t worry if he came to Utd, I’m sure he would join the sicknote CB brigade.

Would replace Jones or Rojo with him without a thought. His price will have rocketed over the past month!

He'd cost a fortune now and I'm not convinced that he'd be worth that inflated price.

Hilarious how people on here seem to want us to buy players just after their price has just soared - Maguire now, Ronaldo after his recent hat trick, Bale after the CL final, Mbappe after his recent brace, etc.

Hardly hilarious - these players have seen their stock risen because they’ve played well and brought attention to themselves. Fans notice this.

If only fans could all be like Nostradamus! Why didn’t we all want Trippier when he was playing for Burnley, probably should have bought a Vardy whilst he was playing for Fleetwood...

of course players are hyped up after world cup performances in their national teams. The question is if those couple of games they performed well means they could do it on club level for different teams. Lindelof did fairly well for Sweden, someone even called him one of the best CB of the world cup:lol: does that mean he can start for Manchester United and put in performances week in week out, with totally different team, tactics, in 38 games in league rather than few games in WC. Yes WC shouldn't be undervalued but totally not overrated either.

Maguire has been a great player for me, before he got to Leicester, I even wanted to make a thread about him. The exposure he gets now at WC is immense though and he deserves credit for sure but come on, let's not get carried away too much. There would be a lot other instances of players having a good WC and being crap after in the past and this year too..

Most likeable English player in last 10 years imo.

Love his game aswell.

I've been really impressed with him at the world cup, but judging players off these tournaments can be dodgy at the best of times. Remember Diouf?

Obviously it's a different situation because Maguire did impress for Leicester too, but it's still dangerous, has he been as impressive for Leicester? Not when I've watched them. Trippier has looked godly this tournament .. he's a very good right back but he hasn't been as good for us as he has for England. You'd think he was the English Marcelo by looking at his performances thus far.

Playing in a 3 man defence with Walker's pace covering you helps too, even Dier looked very competent in a similar system.

He's really damn good, it makes me sick that we didn't look at last summer and spent £35m on Lindelöf instead. Madness.

I've seen Maguire look absolutely outstanding for Leicester but its generally his attacking contribution that catches the eye.

I said in the last 20years...
I don't give a rats arse if you said 20 years. You claimed I was lying literally implying it had never happened. It wasn't that hard to prove you were talking out your anal canal.

So yup still calling bullshit on ya
Says an attention seeking child. I could easily replace Liverpool with a Norwich that finished 3rd from earlier that decade who whilst letting in over 60. Just shut up already.

Yah... They weren't weren't 38 games a season though...

You implied 60 goals was normal for a team that finished 9th

Other than Leicester last season it's happened once since the pl switched to 38 games... Like you... It's not normal

You at Least admitting your wrong about Liverpool... or you just gonna fanny about like normal

Yeah let’s give away our most reliable defender.... some fans honestly are just immersed in their own bias...
That's crazy logic. Darmian was our best defender on the road to winning the Europa league yet Jose would have snapped your hand off if you made an offer for him that the club deemed acceptable. Chris Smalling is most certainly not an untouchable. A brilliant squad player next season but when you take age into account it would make so much more sense to use him as a makeweight as opposed to Bailly or Lindelof who both more than likely will eventually become better defenders than Smalling ever was.

I’d rather live in the here and now. You don’t build better teams by getting rid of your best players in their respective positions. You build from a position of strength. Lindelof and Maguire wouldn’t be anything like a good pairing in my opinion. Maybe Bailly if he can recover his first season form, which certainly isn’t a given. Smalling - Maguire would be a good combination, one ball playing, one with great recovery pace and both exceptional in the air.
But it’s all irrelevant as I do not see United going after Maguire, nor allowing Smalling to leave...

His dominance in the air in both boxes has been incredible.

The game against Colombia we managed to regain control of the momentum in the 2nd half of extra time just because every time Colombia tried to clear the ball Maguire would win the header and we'd have the ball again.

I liked him even before he switched to Leicester but I had doubts if he can handle the pressure at a big club. But his performance at the world cup has clearly shown that he can handle it easily enough. Of course he makes a few mistakes now and then but who doesn't. He is a dominant CB who can pass and bring the ball forward which is exactly what we need.

Sir Alex would probably sign him at age of 20-22 and make him even better than he is today. Shame the same didn't exactly work out with Jones.

Since Jose's watching every big tournament perhaps there's a shadow of a chance...

Maguire fits well into a 5 man defence because he has plenty of cover to make up for his lack of pace and mobility. He'd be a big liability in our defence.

if anything we are looking for someone to partner Smalling, not to replace him so cut the crap and stop playing FM please

Agreed.
The FA Cup was last seasons most important game and Jones/Smalling was Joses CB pairing.
Jones let the side down, in that game and given his injury record, he really needs to leave. The problem is that no teams would be prepared to pay any money for him (due to his injury record) and high wages.

That's not true, he played all of last season in a back 4 and did very well. He was also partnering Wes Morgan who is incredibly slow.

Still far from certain that he is good enough defensively for the level Utd need to get to. The shell of Falcao is the best attacker he has been up against, but it is impressive how he has risen to the occasion in a world cup. Croatia with Mandzukic past his best years don't have world class attackers either so it would be against Belgium or France that we get a closer look at his defensive game.

He had numerous shocking games last season.

Disagree with you there, watched plenty of Leicester last season and he was pretty damn good for the most part. I think most Leicester fans would say the same.

Can you recall any of the numerous games in which he was shocking?

And even then it's only one game, albeit it's the World Cup final.
I like what I've seen of him at the WC and in the EPL but I'm still not convinced he's top class. Having said that, if the club were to announce tomorrow that we'd signed him I'd probably be very happy.

He had numerous shocking games last season.

When he was at Sheffield United he won their player of the year award 3 times. He made League 1 team of the season 3 times. In his Premier League season with Hull he won their fans player of the year and their players player of the year. Last season with Leicester he won their fans player of the year and their players player of the year. He’s as good a bet as any to make the World Cup team of the tournament.

Maybe he’s a pretty good player.
