Harry Maguire

Looks like the nanny from count duckula but is having a fairly tale of a WC and I like him for some reason.

He reminds me of Smalling and Jones if they only kept themselves fit and knew how to defend.

How much would he realistically cost? £60m? Don't worry, money is no object for us.

Still don't rate him at all, plus he looks like a fcuking troll. Think it's laughable people think he's better than Smalling. But apparently any England player who does anything of note will be sought after.

Probably. I think he’s quality. He’d compliment Bailly/Lindelöf perfectly since he’s the strong and slow type of defender whereas the other two are better at covering.

Also he’s excellent on the ball and we really need that. Too little contribution to our buildup from our center backs last season. Not to mention he’s a leader. He was captaining Sheffield United at the age of 17!

He hasnt faced any quality yet, France or Belgium's front line will find many holes in this England defence, and that's assuming Croatia or Russia dont.

You've had some stinkers in your time but this might be the biggest one. Maguire's defending isnt his strong point

It was a bit of tongue to cheek tbh. However I'm liking what Im seeing so far.

There again even Lindelof is doing well today.

Keown comparing him to Bobby Moore in that first half commentary.

He could save the Titanic and it wouldn't be enough for some.
He hasn't saved a jet ski yet, what are you on about? It will be a rude awakening to everyone when England finally faces someone half decent.

It's not surprising at all that England has reached where they have and that suddenly makes this world cup the best ever for half this forum.

I don't like him. Don't know why. I think it's his face, just do not like it.

I don't like England.

The guy's been top notch in the league for 2 successive seasons now. We haven't had a single CB who has played an entire season.

He's really a mixed bag, other than his heading. He seems to win everything in the air and his header today was great for the goal.

Defending? Occasionally good, some bad. Passing? Will try to be a bit more creative than someone like Smalling but will also give the ball away a lot more, sometimes in dangerous areas.

He's obviously a pretty good player but he isnt great at everything. Sometimes it works out for him sometimes it doesnt

Awesome, awesome player. To think some preferred Smalling and Jones to him.

He looks like a lad we all know that absolutely annihlates the shitter. Either way, for the second year running I keep saying we should sign him

He's the first defender ive seen in a long time where your 100% certain he's going to clear the ball from an aerial ball. There's no point crossing when he's in the box, he's that dominant.

Should have bought him last season, I still remember him playing really well against us when he was in Hull in that EFL cup that we lost 1-2

Definitely better than smalling and Jones at this stage. Proper player

he gets exposed defensively time and again

This still stands. People are getting far too carried away here by a goal and a few good clearances. All four of Sweden's best chances involved a Maguire mistake which any Utd defenders would be slammed for:

- In the first half the through ball behind him to Berg, who was in on goal and incorrectly called offside
- He got caught under the ball for Berg's backpost header early in the second half (with 3 at the back vs 1 striker, that 1 striker also shouldn't be left to get a run up against the small LWB Young)
- Toivonen's close range shot which Pickford saved excellently came from Toivonen dribbling easily straight by Maguire on the flank as if he wasn't there
- He wasn't close enough to Berg for his shot in the box at 70 minutes

He also got caught out early on by a through ball to Toivonen, which Stones bailed him out on, and got a stupid booking at the end.

That yellow card was so, so, so silly. What happens now if he gets a yellow now and England goes past Russia/Croatia? He misses the final ?

Yellow cards have been wiped now that we're in the semi-final.

Between him and Pickford for MOTM today. Best game he's played.

As from the semi? Because Meunier received a yellow yesterday and he is going to miss the next game against France.

Nvm, saw the second reply. Thanks.

If he wants to leave he would need to hand in a transfer request - Leicester won't want to sell him he's probably their best CB.

if you get a second yellow in the quarter final then you get banned but after the quarter anyone one with a single yellow is cleared

He has massive goal threat for a centre half and that's for Leicester and England. His performances here are not a some aberration. He has his frailties defensively but is brilliant at adding the qualities desired in modern centre halves.

Their best chance wasn't his fault, the ball travelled into Young's area. Do you count every defender that has a ball go over his head as 'caught under it'?

His booking at the end wasn't even a foul but it wasn't stupid, it stopped a break near the end of a World Cup quarter final and his card gets wiped at the end of the games FFS. It was smart.

He does have his moments but you'll find all defenders do if you watch them all match closely. Perfect games are rare as hen teeth for any player.
