Baffles me, wont improve us much, what a comment, he l improve us massively
Hes aerially dominant especially from set pieces ........which is a big weakness
He can dribble the ball out from the back.......who else can?
He offers an offensive aerial threat......who else does bar Smalling every blue moon.
He can pass more than 6 yards accuratley ....what other centre back can?
He can pass to his striker, into space and not just sideways or backwards...who else does?

he's really taken our handsome XI down a peg or two so we really need to wrap up Dybala to get it back on track again.

He may not be the quickest or the most elegant but he'll fit well into the dressing room, can probably slot into the team on Monday and is at the right age to step up as a defender. Price is annoying - could have paid it a month ago and had him on the tour - but is what it is.
Our forwards will now need to practice showing for passes from deep, something unimaginable with Smalling out there sadly.

My point was more general in that the 'world record fee' argument is kind of arbitrary. You have to consider a lot of factors such as the financial strength of the buying and selling club, existing contract, viable alternatives etc.
That's more the point, he has been available before and we have waited and waited. Maybe taking the chance on Smalling and Jones put us off young English defenders.

Needed a bigger upgrade to be honest but I have faith in Ole and reckon he’ll turn out to be a good buy.

Pretty much my opinion on Maguire to be honest. Decent player, but not all that and certainly not worth the kinds of money we've forked out for him. We're desperate though and for whatever reason have decided that its Maguire or nothing.

On the ball easily, defending wise Smalling is a couple of steps up from him imo.
Forget 5 years ago. Should have signed him last summer for 50-60m when Mou asked.
Overpriced for sure, but that's what we are now, a somewhat desperate club, and not in a strong position to negotiate.
Maguire is a top player though. Better than what we currently have.

Liverpool upgraded at keeper as well to go with VVD. Maguire is probably not as good as him but we've snagged a premier defensive full back to go alongside him and we already have de god in goal.

The thing is that everyone would be happy to pay a world-record fee for one of the world's best or potentially best defenders. It's just a lot of us don't think Maguire is anywhere near that category.
I mean, we desperately need a right winger and I'd be glad if the club paid huge money for one - but I still wouldn't want us to spend 120m on Zaha, for example.
I personally think he is decent but surely not £80-85m. He would be a good signing for £50m. I know it's not my money etc but I would rather we also invest in other areas we desperately need. We got fleeced yet again, as always. Just proves that we don't learn from our mistakes.
