Transfer will not. But if you report a higher number (90) you may generate more clicks.

The articles literally state that their asking price is now £90m.
Why does it take fecking forever to close out these transactions at Old Trafford? Arsenal comes in much later on Pepe and takes no more than 12-15 days to go from white smoke to medical to official announcement. Bayern took longer (and about to finalize) on Sane, but never as long as this organization takes.

How long has it been since the links to Bruno and Maguire became apparent? How long did it take for Wan Bissaka to become final? Are we really haggling over 10M on 80-90M valuation?

Either we’re in for the players we’ve identified and short listed, or continue lingering in Europa League capacity due to 10M, and risk losing other assets and credibility in the process. How is this so difficult to understand.

This post is so wrong.

Bayern have been linked with Sane all summer and still haven't agreed anything.

Arsenal were first linked to Pepe in May, it's now August.

Fantastic point! Never actually thought of that, but all those who use, say Leicester, as a platform for PL exposure would surely have second thoughts about going there if they know that Leicester will potentially block their future pathway.

I think we'll be fine, I do get the feeling your desperation is clouding the logic of your post.

£85m with an extra £10m in performance related bonuses is absurd and stingy.
Leicester should just surrender while they have the chance before it gets uglier than it already is.

You'll be very disappointed if you expect to see white flags and trembling negotiators, if a deal is struck it will be firmly on terms we're happy to accept!

Many are underestimating the effects AWB will have on our defence. We are replacing a failed and ageing winger with possibly one of the top 5 defensive FBs in the world. That will have a huge effect on defence. Now considering we are also bringing tuanzebe in the mix then maybe we should focus on bringing in a top DM instead. However we only do so after reminding maguire that United offered Leicester a generous fee for him which they had turned down. Let's Leicester deal with the prospect of having an unhappy influential player in their squad who feel that his club has ruined his opportunity to play at a top club.

Leaving him out of the entire squad tomorrow suggests Harry, or his agent, have been giving it large to Leicester’s management that enough is enough and our new offer should be accepted. It’s not a bad strategy from Ed to be fair. We can all argue if he’s worth the money, but to up the bid and get Harry’s team to push from the other side is what was needed. Really think this will go through now.

Besides, Leicester need to give us a little bit of wriggle room in the negotiation - think of all these new XXXL baseball caps we’ve got to make.

Spot on. Maguire and AWB are potentially a massive upgrade for our defense.

No desperation at all in the post. Despite what you might think of the club and it’s genuine rise in prestige, Leicester is not a ‘final stage’ clubs for players who want to reach the top level - that isn’t United arrogance, that’s simply a fact (to quote the Spanish waiter).

If your club gains this kind of reputation of taking players in on the relative cheap then potentially blocking their progression, that will have an impact on what players think of you and the likelihood of them coming to you. Again, not to be arrogant, but what about when Tielemans wants to join a top 4 team?

We keep trying to hit a ‘home run’ with our signings instead of buying to develop - there are so many holes in the squad currently that £80mil+ on anything less than a World Class upgrade is frankly unacceptable.

He can’t just come in & be better than Jones/Smalling/Rojo etc. for that fee he needs to be transformative, & I just don’t think it’ll happen to that effect.

The fact we’re stalling this deal so that not buying a midfielder can go under the radar is also ludicrous.

Maybe but 90% of fans would prob prefer Dybala and Fernandes in our starting 11 giving excitement and entertainment back. Having a more solid back 4 with the same tumescent attack won't appease anyone in the short term, plenty of goals would.

Of course it will, otherwise you wouldn’t accept it

But point remains, it’s not likely to be what you were expecting.

I get where Leicester is coming from. They don't want to sell because they'll be worse off without Maguire and they don't need the money. Harry isn't making a fuss, yet, so we need to pay the price or move on.

We aren't entitled to him.

I’m not against adding some added firepower, but if we can build from the back that’s a foundation for success.

I think Harry, or his agent, are making a fuss. Hence not in the squad for their match tomorrow.

Todays transfer drama is tomorrows chip paper, it happens throughout the game and I'm sure we-ll stick to our formula which appears to be only sellung one key asset per main window at a massive profit and reinvesting wisely.
If or when Tielemans and others move I'm very sure they will be massively profitable too.
Let's face it unless some on the field success returns for you then the lure of more succesful clubs especially the Spanish and Itallian giants and more sadly for you neighbours will severely compromise your appeal.
I am not being disrespectful or dismissive of the size you are or your history, you're a massive global brand. I'm saying right now you are not the phenomally attractive football/success guaranteed proposition you once were.

Harry isn't making a fuss, yet, so we need to pay the price or move on.

But we are ready to pay 80m as they asked for, as per reports.

If they now want more than 2 weeks ago - that’s where the fun stops, and we shall stop. Make a take it or leave it 80m bid (official legally binding bid) with 1-2 day bid expiry time and make it public knowledge if they decline, that they reneged on previously stated price.

They will have an incredibly unhappy Maguire for the next year if it happens, and problems doing transfer business further down the road

I am hearing 95 mill now. Some United fans think pay whatever but I honestly don't think he is that good to say this. I am an England fan and I don't feel that Maguire solves our defence at national level and Leicester certainly are very leaky. For 95 mill we may aswell buy Koulibaly.

I think Koulibaly was first choice, and Napoli said he wasn’t for sale.

They may not need the money but they gave an opportunity to invest more money in their squad with a Maguire’s sale. They should just do it.

That's sourced from the Mirror though.

This fecktard just needs to hand in a transfer request and it can be completed much sooner.

Hopefully leaving us enough time to off load Jones in that time

It’s time to pull the plug on this deal and go stump up the extra money for Koulibaly or pay the more reasonable Dias release clause. Let’s see how Leicester enjoy a disgruntled player in their squad.

Transfer request? Not for that amount of money he doesn’t. Wouldn’t he lose his signing on bonus?

I know a worker on the Lcfc groundstaff( relative of the wife), his opinion is that JV is one of those strange people, that whatever company they are in, he is the man+, we all know someone similar.
JV, as would be expected, is trying to persuade HM to stay at Leicester, and is the only reason that no transfer request has been asked for.
I know it sounds far fetched, but something is holding up the deal.

Doesn't a transfer request mean he loses his current loyalty bonus at Leicester, or something along those lines.

If we sign him and it's for 80-90m, what have we been fecking about over all summer exactly?

Also if we don't sign him, what have we been fecking about with all summer exactly?

Does any other team who isn't financially broke do this?
Yeah there was no need to drag it out in this manner if we're anyway going to pay 80 million. Could have had him here by July.

I'm like convinced this will be settled on deadline day.

For the fee Leicester wanted.

Could have paid it already and had him bedded in the squad.

It is crazy that we didn't take a chance on him previously, I remember him all the way back to the youth FA cup final against Sheffield United, it's odd that he only just recently become a target.

I wouldn't bother at this point, give Axel a chance and address this again next season if needs be, we don't have to solve every problem in this window.

Excellent post. There is simply no point in making a fuss either for Maguire, Leicester hold all the cards here. We simply should have moved on to other targets long before. I'm seeing rumours that Wolves have bid 60m for Ruben Dias, and that we are enquiring about Rugani from Juve. May be we are working on other options than Maguire.

CB along with RB were the main positions that needed addressing this summer. We conceded 50+ goals in the league.... well we can wait for next season to solve the problem while we concede 50 more...

My point is that I feel that AWB, Tuanzebe + a new DM would be enough for the time being especially if DDG signs a new contract. We don't need to spend ridiculous money on Maguire. Let Leicester choose between selling Maguire on reasonable prices or stick to their guns and risk having an influential player in their team who feels that Leicester had treated him unfair. That can ruin morale and a season campaign.

So they want 85m + 10m bonus for Maguire now? What a fecking joke, they just keep raising their price because we are so fecking desperate and have no other target, and especially when they know Bailey is injured for long term now. I blame stupidity of the club management, and greed of Leicester.

I can see reasoning for Leicester to increase the price. The transfer window is closing soon, and finding a replacement will cost them additional money. Clubs become more reluctant to release their players, unless for ridiculous money (compared to the player initial cost at normal time).

Blame it on our Club negotiator to leave it so late to come with the 'original' Leicester demand.

Nah they are capitalising on our desperation in needing a CB. Its a dangerous game though. Maguire would probably not like being in this situation. At worst he'll lose this chance of playing at a top club while at best he will have to carry this ridiculous 90m price tag throughout his entire career. Same can be said about Leicester players (both present and near future). Leicester is a stepping stone club. That's how players see it. Players understand that clubs would want to make profit out of them. However, if a big offer comes in then they would expect their club to sell them up. No one like being kept to ransom at that stage of their career.

This could all be nonsense in that a deal is done but Utd want an offload first (Lukaku say, for the cash flow)

I'm not convinced Maguire isn't a complete donkey either.

I think Matic & McTom will do the DM gig this year. It begins to look like Pogba might stay.

One more MF/AM arrival might be it for this year.

Leaves us borderline Top 4?

A spoilt Caf (that expects on experience that Utd win the League every year I suppose) will whine incessantly I'm sure but at least the transfer policy seems a bit more practical / realistic / team improvement orientated.

You can't really blame the supporters. A RB from Palace, the runner from the championship and a possible swap between two underperforming players (Lukaku and Dybala) is an underwhelming transfer window indeed, especially considering the level of rebuild we need to do. Meanwhile we haven't yet filled the DOF role + we haven't got rid of any deadwood. That stinks of incompetence. We keep talking about us being the biggest club in the world. Shouldn't we act like one in the transfer market as well?

Leicester will undoubtedly feel the consequences of this. Whenever they go for a British based player now (and potentially foreign based players), they will be quoted prices with their own valuation of Maguire taken into account.

By valuing him close to £100m, they are risking upsetting the player himself whilst potentially adding a tax to their own future transfers. A tax that could soon eclipse the £20-30m they're trying to ask over Maguire's value. We should really be using the Mahrez price as a reference point. Its mental that Maguire would go for 50% more than him; he was their best attacking player, a similar age, and wanted by the richest club in the world.

I would walk away. Other clubs would use this signing against us when we bid for their players, and it could see us paying £20-30 million over the odds for players for the foreseeable.
