Harry Maguire | Signed

He’s as good as ours now if Leicester really have left him out of the squad. Just a matter of time.

Should be a very good signing. Hopefully we sack off a centre back this window so the order can be :

Lindelof/Maguire
Tuanzebe
Smalling
Jones/Bailly/Rojo

Yeah but they are very clear about not wanting to spend money. We feck about over valuations on players for months, then just randomly break all kinds of transfer records on some player we didn't even need as if money is no issue.
at least Arsenal have a sporting director to speak of, didn't they say your DOF/Sporting director would pick the new manager? no one has even been appointed to the position yet, if they are serious then they need to get that sorted

What else could one expect from people who don't know what they're doing but at the same time accustomed to 'money solving everything'.

Arsenal, I'd say, from the outside looking in, you have very similar ownership situations, absentee Yanks who only care about the bottom line on the financial reports

what Brendan Rodgers said was he wanted time to decide if he wanted to bring in a replacement, if Maguire goes we have 4 senior CBs in the squad as it stands

I see. So it's whether the existing four central defenders are deemed good enough without a replacement for Maguire?

Would you be happy with the status quo?

And even with all this in mind do you think it makes sense that United have been screwing around for this many months if they still end up paying £70 million or perhaps even more?

By all accounts from the leicester fans, their owner Mr Khun Top wants to break the record. I'm assuming Woody does not, and I side with him. So it's basically a face thing. My hope is that in the end, they'll thrash out some sort of deal that comes close to 75-80m when all bonuses are met, but the initial deal would just barely be under the transfer record.

Can't we just tell Juve they can have Alexis for free with us paying as much of his salary as it takes for them to throw Rugani into Dybala's suitcase before he leaves? This is getting boring, and the fee is too damn high.

personally I would, asides from those four we also have 4 very highly rated young Cb's plus Daniel Amartey who plays there internationally, I'd rather spend the money on a winger

Very glad we’ve poured some ice water on this one. We were being robbed by fecking Leicester

Every story from the last 24 has indicated the complete opposite of “pouring some ice water” on it.

I make you right.
We knew what the valuation was months ago, all this posturing and haggling gets us absolutely nowhere.
If we do manage to sign Maguire, it will be for the figure that LCFC have wanted all along.

Yes. Which has been obvious from the start since we know his contract situation and that Leicester aren't currently a team who just willingly sell good players.

They are serious but about what no one seems to know.

We didn't sign Maguire last year due to valuation issues supposedly, yet offered £100m for Varane, for some reason, and also spent £50m on Fred. A player who no one at the club including the manager could explain why we signed.

So we can't afford to pay £10m or so over the odds for anyone, but can throw £50m around or £100m bids around just for fun.

Also Maguire probably isn't an £80-90m player, but we have identified we need a centre back, and the fact is there are no other alternatives who are realistic and of a similar level. Lukaku isn't a £75m player. Martial wasn't worth what we paid at the time. Sanchez isnt worth 300k a week. We literally paid Rooney to play for someone else. We have no idea what we are doing.

People go on about Woodward only being good for our finances, but we behave like someone who randomly spends 5k on a piano they can't play then claims they can't afford petrol for their car because it's overpriced.

For what it's worth I played with him on FIFA in the United team and he was the best player on the pitch.

Glad he's not making himself available for Leicester. Hopefully it means he's more likely to sign for us in the next 7 days.

Could just be he's not over the illness and the way this saga's gone I'd bet money on it

I doubt he’d be back in training if he was still sick enough that he couldn’t play.

first the shits and now not in the right frame of mind. Poor man already has health problems before he joins our CB room.

Man we are truly run like a fecking circus, imagine how good we could be with a competent board jesus christ

Just sign him we cannot afford to not get a new CB in and its been obvious for months. The fact that we’re going to pay what Leicester wanted from the day the window opened, after this much time, is just pathetic

feck knows what you're on about

Can we end this madness already, fecking hell tunnel vision next level

They'd be absolute idiots to reject £80M. Surely he's going to kick up a fuss sooner or later if they don't accept. Crazy!

I still think its amazing (seriously) that Leceister have the means to turn a 70-80m bid.

Fair play.

But please accept new bid. :(

Why does it take fecking forever to close out these transactions at Old Trafford? Arsenal comes in much later on Pepe and takes no more than 12-15 days to go from white smoke to medical to official announcement. Bayern took longer (and about to finalize) on Sane, but never as long as this organization takes.

How long has it been since the links to Bruno and Maguire became apparent? How long did it take for Wan Bissaka to become final? Are we really haggling over 10M on 80-90M valuation?

Either we’re in for the players we’ve identified and short listed, or continue lingering in Europa League capacity due to 10M, and risk losing other assets and credibility in the process. How is this so difficult to understand.

classic "grass is always greener" post. Everybody in Germany has been laughing about Bayern for months now due to their incompetence, they are producing howlers on a daily basis and Sane is far from being done. Stop being so dramatic.

oh, and guess what, they shaved off a lot of Palace's initial asking price for AWB. Negotations matter. You don't just throw in 10m in every deal just because you can, that's how you'll overpay in every single deal.

What the heck son?
Did you miss him being left out of their friendly for not being in the "right frame of mind".

That very rarely doesn't result in a transfer being finalised.

You can’t please some people. It’s like they ignore the fact it’s taking a whole window for Bayern to buy a winger, Madrid to sell deadwood, Neymar to be freed and Poch to throw his dummy out to Levy being a tight git as usual.

But we are the only shambles. Obviously

Jesus Christ, just submit a fecking transfer request and let's get this thing done and dusted. Infuriatingly poorly handled by Woodward. We've been after Maguire for over a year now and he's still going to run it down to the wire.

Shouting about overpaying and at the same time wanting him to hand a transfer request. You do know what happens when Maguire hands in his transfer request? He will legally lose the loyalty bonus and then we will have to compensate him or Leicester that.

Doesn’t really help. They don’t have to sell him for less if he does that and he just loses money in the process.
But they will. They wouldn't want to risk keeping an unhappy player who could have a poor season and watch his value go down.

What’s the difference between that and now when he’s said he wants to leave?
