Harry Maguire | Signed

Yeah, but he won't. Maguire has had 2 years to force a move and hasn't, why would anyone expect him to now? He's seemingly fine playing out his career / contract at Leceister, so good for him. The embarrassing part is that United has no backup targets and continues to get drug along by both a club that doesn't want / need to sell and a player who while isn't against joining, is just as fine not joining. In a situation like this, the buying club has no leverage and either pays up, or moves on. We've tried to call Leceister's bluff for 2 years and they don't blink. Move on. Oh wait, Ed's left it once again to the end of the window which means every day that goes by we are less and less likely to sign a CB. Again.

What makes it embarrassing if there actually no other viable targets available that improve us now and in the future without spending an even more exorbitant sum of money and on top of that knowing that target would be willing to come ? In Tuanazebe, the club already sees a potential top CB, so there is no need to go buy potential this window they are shooting for a quality starter. It's far better for us to do our business this way than the stupid way we tried to shoot for Ramos and other targets in the past when in all reality the players never wanted to come. With Maguire, he fits the club's profile for the club now and for the next 4-5 years, he clearly wants to come and they are working on making it happen.

This is part of the football, when a club wants a particular a specific player, they don't just switch to not be "embarrassing" so they can fill some numbers, they work towards a deal. Sometimes it can happen quickly, so often it happens last minute and more than one occasion, especially now because of the money each club has, it doesn't happen at all.

Look at what is going on at other clubs. Bara want Neymar, they didn't say, oh well we'll just get another target. Neymar, a player that has agitated the situation with his current club, it's who Barca want and they'll work the deal till the very last moment if they have to. Nothing embarrassing about that.

Top (our owner) has made it very clear he wanted a world record fee for Harry
So, if
  • This bid is real at 80m, need plenty more evidence yet
  • This bid does not contain ridiculous add ons, like you winning the league in the next 3 years :)
Imagine it will be accepted.

As others have said, Harry comes across as far to level headed to pull a "Mahrez".

Indeed.

Good thing there's so many Leicester fans to say the same thing on every page, makes it much easier for us all to know how they feel.

I know, right! It must be a great relief to you all :D

Same fecking thing in the Dybala thread with at least one fecker in every page bringing up comparisons to Di Maria.

At least it's different to the 70 pages or so where every post was either he's slow, not worth the money, or let's go for Koulibaly who 93% of the thread have never seen play anyway

So still no quality sources confirm this new bid? Rob (Dorsett says not)
What a waste of everyones time!

You sound like desperate salesman.

How so?
Is utd extra a good source then? None from the Leicester side, just loads of frothing at the mouth Utd fans on twitter furiously frapping themselves senseless.
I am indifferent should a suitable bid arrive, I see no evidence to that effect, but I don`t know what constitues a good source for Utd news

The source is 'The Times'

Utd xtra is not a source, they post news from different sources and they mention it in their tweet.

Checking in every 5 mins and post "no bids yet" makes you look like desperate salesman who is frustrated that bid hasn't been made.

Wow. You guys are super salty at times (Thats not [The Times] by the way)

I was interested to know if you had heard anything, as from leciester there seems to be very little, so thought you may have more.

Guess expecting a modicum of politeness is a bit too much for you during these no doubt stressful times.

Fear not. This quality addition is my last post for today.

It's The Times, google what was posted by Utd Xtra and you will the results in this article.

Not sure why you assume everyone (or me) is rude, if you come up with "what a waste of everyone's time" then don't expect very kind replies, expect your views to be challenged as that's how it is. Also this is ManUtd forum where everything is discussed (especially when it's from sites like Times, Guardian, Telegraph). If you want very reliable news then we have to just keep refreshing ManUtd.com or leicestercity website.

Getting him and basically swapping Lukaku for Dybala would make a very good summer, despite the absolutely absurd price.

Add Fernandes...and a Right winger.. and a DM...then we can talk about good summers

Not to mention clearing out a lot of dead wood.
Anyone expecting all of that in one summer is off their rocker.

Except that's insanely optimistic in the current market.

I agree we need to sell some players, but I assume we're waiting til we get the targets we want in. I've also heard rumours that Woody, the businessman that he is, values keeping players in this market because of the insane transfer fees, for their "worth".

The problem, which is occurring across all the "superclubs" is shipping players out. The issue surrounding Gareth Bale gets all the headlines because he's a star name, but the exact same issues can be applied to the Marcos Rojo situation. He's 29, been crocked for much of the last 2 seasons, is on exorbitant wages for the level of his ability; it's very hard to find buyers.

No one is going to cover over £100kpw for him, let alone pay a transfer fee as well. I'm sure the club would happily sell one or two of Rojo, Bailly and Jones, but there's hardly a queue of clubs forming a line to buy them. From what I can gather, Woodward would've allowed Jose to sign a centre-half last season but he had to ship someone out first, which proved problematic. I fully expect both Rojo and Darmian to go, but it'll be towards the back end of August, and we'll be subbing the wages.

Does seem like some people are totally convinced there won't be money for Maguire if Utd swap Lukaku rather than sell him.

Personally I still believe we can sign Harry whatever happens with the Dybala situation.

Surely there would have been reports it was going to affect it when this story first broke if that was the case.

Sod this.. we are going to end up paying £90m - let's just go all out for Umtiti who is in a different class

Your being unrealistic because only in LVG’s second summer have we got all our transfer business done before pre-season. I think it’s funny how people just expect transfers especially when involving United where every clubs wants to rip you of to be a simple your player is valued at this let’s get this done.

The window is also not closed and as far as I can see we are still working on deals. So if buy the end of it we have a striker, Midfielder and Defender to AWB. I couldn’t care how long it took them to get here.

*second not first summer*

Actually Jose's first season was after the Euros and we got Baily, Mikhi, Zlatan, Pogba

Fair enough second season we got Matic late but that was because he just came available and was not really first choice.

We know we have a rebuild, I am not asking for 5 transfers by 1st July but AWB, James and a CB would have been good. Then we can sign 1/2 thereafter.

Precisely. If we are going to pay £90m for Harry Maguire, why don’t we just stump up the fee another £5m to £10m more for actual world class defenders like Umtiti or Varane? Maybe we don’t even have to pay that much. Everyone has a price and I’m sure Barca or Real would seriously consider if a serious bid comes in.

We will need about 10m to cover umtiti in cotton wool and give him robotic legs

Varane is going to go for 150m if maguire is rated at 80m, plus why in hells name would he leave.

Umtitis knees are f*cked otherwise Barca wouldn’t get rid.

Madrid wouldn’t sell Varane.

Really think Real don't want to sell Varane as they said recently if he goes they want the full €500m release clause.
