If your 'billionaire' owners were so ambitious, they would tell us to feck off and simply say the player is not for sale instead of quoting a sum for which the said player could be sold

Fact of the matter is, the player is dispensable for the club and owners. That's why there is a selling price, the submitted offer of £70m was more than a fair one but given our desperation for a CB they want to squeeze every last penny. Shrewd way to run a business? Sure. Ambitious? Heck no.
Eh, you mean like we did with Pogba?

Wait, no.

Clubs have to put a price on players, they can't just go "oh he's worth like a billion so feck off!". It sets a terrible precedent. Leicester stuck a price tag on Maguire that they assumed nobody would possibly cough up for, same as us with Pogba, but it turns out we apparently want him so bad that we are actually willing to go close to their ludicrous offer, so now they basically can't budge and have to politely tell us to get fecked.

We offered £70m which was already obscene for Maguire and they flat out refused and said to stump up the £90m. They won't negotiate down from that at all because they know we won't pay their much, so they get to keep their player. I'd say it's a pretty good sign of ambition

exactly its surprising how many don't see this, this way you can go to the player and say you were willing to let him go if the valuation was met, then get in their ear about how much you value them but the other team obviously didn't, keep working on them that way and get them back onside pretty quickly

I mean that's not true now is it? Our "official" stance on Pogba is/was that he's not for sale. Every brief we put out regarding Pogba never mentioned an actual price, it was always "we expect him to be here next season". Leicester gave us a number that we have to reach, so they are definitely ready to part ways with Maguire on some level.

every player has a price, and England CB potentially drawing United has meant the press went mad digging up what ever they can, including a fee, I would bet that Pogba, his agents and potential new clubs know the fee you'd want its just not gotten out

Simple question.

Man utd cannot afford maguire.

Dunk supposedly available for 45 million.

Why dont you guys just sign Dunk?

We simply have to get this one done. It doesn't matter if we go out and sign Dybala, Fernandes, Zidane, Pele and Zeus to score the goals if we go into the season with the chuckle brothers playing at centre half. If we don't get Maguire I hope Tuanzebe can make the step up.

As much as it might be seen as a United fan being arrogant, I'm not convinced Leicester benefit from not selling him to anyone for 70m or more.

Their transfer record is 40m, for a younger more talented midfielder, Tielemans? They traditionally have a scouting network which has sourced the likes of Vardy, Kante, Mahrez, Ndidi et al.

I'm not convinced this works entirely in their favour. But we'll see. Their fans didn't seem to be hugely bothered at a fee of 70m, and are only now piping up because the statement of intent is flowing their juices. But they'll do well to break away from the Everton and Wolves squads this season imo, and yes we'll probably be closer to them that than the title too.

Mostly, these players who clubs have signed for monster money have not worked out. Coutinho, Dembele, Neymar, they just haven't worked. The value in terms of Maguire isn't there, but as others have said, it's clear we have no alternative targets and therefore Leicester simply need to wait. They'll be very happy to have Maguire lining up for them next year, and for the player himself 26 and 27 aren't really different ages in terms of when to make a move. It's not like he's 29.

Looks like a dead deal this, won't be one bit surprised if this doesn't happen.
I can see this going into the last few days, Ed saying feck it we will pay, and Leicester will turn around and say, well we cant go get a replacement now so errr No.
But I will be hugely disappointed and IMO fans will have to find a way to relay their frustrations to the club. This is not on, absolutely shocking.

On one hand I would be ecstatic if we sign him as he will definitely improve our defence but 90m is just a stupid demand by Leicester considering they sold Mahrez for 60 odd just a year ago and sold Kante for 35 odd million 3 years ago. I won't care if we eventually spend the money as it is better spent on the club than going to Galzer's pocket but this just sets a bad precedent. Even in an inflated market Maguire is worth at max 65 million. Leicester are just acting unreasonable, although they have a right to demand anything as he is their player.

You can say that but sometimes these transfer opportunities do not come again. IMO this is his chance to make his move or I dont think it will happen.

He might be 27, but I can bet you now that we will NOT be paying more than £50m for him next year because we would have had another year to find a younger alternative.

Look at Fekir, one season he is valued at 50m year later he is at Betis for 20m.

The problem is, moving from the team that finished 9th to the team that finished 6th isn't really that big a move.

Because Maguire is far better and we probably feel that if he puts enough pressure on leaving then Leicester will have to accept a fee we find agreeable.

You must be deluded if you think a move to United isnt a big move. With Maguire we become real contenders for top 4 even 3. I hope he has better advisers than you.

Unless he causes a hissy fit then he's not coming

I think the only way you getting a cut fee is either a transfer request or if our manager tells our owner he wants him out.

Our manager actually has only indicated the opposite, he has said in public we should have set a deadline to give you a guys a flat "no" regardless of price.

So I feel this strategy of just waiting and hoping we lower the price is flawed. In the old days it may have worked as when we were poorer we would be too scared of losing the money.

Currently, in footballing terms it's like moving to Liverpool in the mid-90s. All the numbers and likes and views don't change the reality of the squad and what's been happening on the pitch. While I agree that Maguire arriving would put United on a much better footing for getting top 4, there are more important things, and given the endless negativity around United the past few years I can see why players might choose to stay put instead, especially if you have a family as Maguire does.

Apparently United prepared to sell Tuanzebe to fund Maguire, not Jones, Rojo or Bailly FFS..!
That had better just be shite journalism reporting this....:mad:

20m and a buyback clause would be fine by me for Axel.

The suspected Newcastle interest would most likely be a loan Solskjaer has said Axel is part of the future.

I wouldn't mind Umtiti I don't understand the negativity he's day and night a better defender than Maguire. Maguire has never been consistently even close to the best defender in the league, Umtiti on form is one of the best centre halves in world football. Fitness is the only stumbling block.

We are not like liverpool in the mid 90's because we are spending money, I hope we have fans who will not let the club get away with mediocracy. If you look at it realistically, with all the negativity United still have a better chance of winning things and getting champions league than Leicester do. Maguire has a family, like most footballers and he had no issue to move from Sheffield to Hull to Leicester. Manchester isnt that far anyway.

This saga needs more drama like the Bale at Madrid story to spice it up. Maybe throw in some African shamans Yaya style, or how his father didnt get the tractors promised by United and a spicy quote by his dad like 'I had so many children because I didn't have television'. At least then it would be entertaining.

Of course they can afford him. The question is if they WANT to spend 90m for him.

Dunk yourself in a cesspit mate. He isn’t United quality

Pretty big stumbling block when the reports suggest he basically has no cartilage left in his knees and can't really train properly between matches. If that is true then he won't make it through a single PL season and could be as good as retired within a couple of years.

I think this one is dead, time to move on.

Good on the club not paying twice what he is actually worth. I hope Axel is up for it this year because this is his big chance.

Sky now saying if you buy Maguire we'll go for Tarkowski not Dunk, Tarkowski has a £50m buy out in his contract and Burnley would then go for Gary Cahill

That's a huge stumbling block. We already have three crocked CBs; we don't need another one.

Good points about his previous and potential future moves, although the club hasn't spent THAT much money last window and this (so far....). I am confused by this window so far, there seem to be a lot of permutations which may or may not come off based on who's going where. I'd understand if he was concerned he would arrive to see Pogba leave without adequate midfield replacement, for instance. The public perception of United right now, and I imagine the professional perception of it too, is it's a club on a knife-edge in terms of its long-term footballing future.

Ole's already said Tuanzebe is the future of the club so false info

Whatever ever happened to the milenkovic links, wouldn't mind him here instead

Oh I agree in that respect. I can understand his concerns, but his concerns will be less than lets say a Dybala?

This window is looking like our worst ever transfer window considering what our rivals team is looking like.

Yeah I agree - our strategy is totally reliant on Harry kicking up one hell of a stink, which doesn't look like happening.
