£44.2m

Straight cash. That is what he’s worth.

+ £10m because he’s English

+ £20m because we’re UTD and have a Chief Ex. that says things like “we can do things other clubs only dream of”

+ £5m - £20m( depending on player and buying club) tax on the market brought in when oil rich Royal families starting owning football clubs.

And you left with Maguire for £80m +

However, we are at that point where we have no choice.

Spot on!

This is a risk but it can be a success like Rio too. It seems though the club has no choice regarding other central defenders. But We also need a defensive midfield equally to protect back four. Players like Matic and Fred aren't reliable and
can play in central midfield.

Seems Celtic turned down 25m from Arsenal so it would appear his price is higher. Not sure he is worth it considering the SPL is a lower standard than the Championship and there are injury concerns.
I could be wrong but i think i read Arsenal wanted to pay in installments, that's why the bid was rejected. Cheapskates.

They turned down 18m + 7m in bonuses. 25m would get him.

Definitely starting to get the feeling that journos like Ogden & Stone never say anything on a transfer until it's nearly done.

Maybe suggests that they get their information on transfers from press officers within the clubs.

It is nothing like Rio would people stop trying to make this stupid comparison? Rio was younger and already the best defender around who was only go to get better and be a mainstay in our team for ten years .

Maguire is not the best around is not going to get better just even slower and if hes playing for us in five or six years it will be bad news for us

Always the way. The only genuine information, for any business, will come from the press office. They may well leak stories, or false stories, in advance to suit an agenda, but that’s where it comes from. I can bet people like Xsimon, or whatever his name, have no idea what Ed or the management team are up to at this given moment.

So a 26 year old defender will not become any better but worse by default, is that what you are selling as an absolute fact?

This is true in theory... but not in a world where we pay players wages well above their market rate which means in the majority of cases they have effectively £0 transfer value.

If we stick Maguire on £200k+ a week, he'll be more or less unsellable.

We do pay silly salaries but I think its only really Sanchez we've thrown into that category...and Rooney before him...and probably Zlatan. It is a pretty dumb but then two of those we paid £0 for anyway and the third had more than paid back his transfer fee in terms of contribution anyway.

The bigger problem that creates I think is within your own squad. I know if I was De Gea for example I'd want my pay to be fair in comparison to Sanchez.

So confusing that an English based twitter account would report an English player moving to one of the biggest English teams from another English team and choose to report the transfer in Euros.

The info is from Alfredo Pedulla who is Italian.

Hes going to get slower and hes slow now that's for certain. What is going to improve?

It's not that they're silly, but they're probably more that what most of the players are worth or could get elsewhere. As Mike said, this makes it harder for us to shift players who aren't working. Their value as an asset goes down because you can't liquidate them easily. Many may end up being released at the end of their contracts.

This.

Simon Stone doesn’t have a clue but he’s supposed to be tier 1.

Stone is like our clubs external twitter account. He posts exactly what was passed onto him from the club. Him not posting doesn't always equal to the fact that he doesn't know what's going on.

I dont think what your mate said is a valued opinion

Yeah that's kind of what I was hinting at on here . Hardly valued opinions on the caf . I may as well be sat in the pub with my mates at least I know some of them played pro and semi pro football so have a valued opinion .

So once again we are going to steal the march on City? Let’s hope this turns out better than last time we did that.

He isn't anywhere near as slow as some are claiming him to be. At the start of the vid below, he is chasing Sane and does well against him. I'd say Maguire is quicker than Lindelof.

Quite concerning that his highlight reel just looks like a Phil Jones that doesn’t get injured.

It’s sad that we’re being robbed here. Have we not learned from the past 2 times city have pulled out of a deal?

Said it a few pages back. Give the manager what he wants so there's no excuses. Like Jose and LVG if they choose to waste their kitty getting fleeced on lazy targets that's their job down the shytter.

The meltdown in this thread is hilarious, I have to say. I can't wait for the actual games to come so at least the moaning can be about something substantial.

The one @Adnan posted?

Four inches taller than Phil Jones and, consequently, much better in the air. Doesn't seem to need to throw himself around to get the job done like Jones does for whatever reason. His passing stats are typically better than Jones's as well despite playing for a more or less counterattacking side who don't really play for possession. He's a much better player.

I bet they'd be shaking in their boots if we sign Maguire
If we have to pay 80m or higher, they'll be shaking with laughter for sure. Even their Arabs aren't that stupid throwing out money.

So much moaning about the potential cost. The cost means nothing to me, I have no say, it’s not my money. Are the prices in modern football obscene? Of course, the world has people homeless and starving and ideally the football world would be torn up to help cure poverty.

But we sadly don’t live in that world.

What is this particular player worth to our particular team at this particular time? Do we need him?, will we be stronger or weaker with him in the team? Is he a good fit? Will he need to settle or will he hit the ground running? Can we get better answers to these questions elsewhere at a different price?

Finally, given the answers to the previous offset against what we may stand to gain or lose.

How much are we going to have to pay to extract him from that team to our team? Ed may be a dick but he does not want to pay loads any more than we do.

Sellers market dictates all. Football has gone nuts and the bubble will eventually burst. Hopefully we will be in a position to survive when it happens.

For now we are playing catch-up. Our rivals hands are aces and kings, we are playing with lesser hands we have to offset with money.
