Harry Maguire involved in incident with police in Greece - conviction nullified by appeal, full retrial pending

Well, as I said. IF he hit a police officer I don't think we should be defending him.

I'm not saying the club should turn a blind eye, I just think that if the club were to try and sell him in disgrace now they'd be lucky to even get half of what they paid for him 12 months ago.

It's like the old days really. We used to have regular player controversies. We've had a right bunch of unspirited twerps playing for us since Fergie retired.
It has an early 90s feel to it. That team had some strong characters on it. Schmikes, Pally, Bruce, Robson, Ince, Keane, Hughes, Cantona etc. We could do with a couple more of that ilk.

I wonder how many more times the bail via instalments joke will be made.

United are in talks with these people, they expect half of the jokes to stop immediately and the rest to stop over the next 4 years.

Sorry.

Yeah, it is too easy to make snap judgements on the internet. I doubt we're the only lot currently doing it right now.

Difficult position for the club and not an ideal one for Harry either. Have to just see what happens. If it does turn out to be true that he has hit a policeman, the media will be wanting blood. Not sure what the club can do in a situation like that. Can't seem to remember of a similar, comparable incident.
Exactly. Most of the posters queuing up to reprimand him have had a bee in their bonnets about him for a while, for one reason or another. It's just an opportunity for them to criticise someone they either don't rate or resent, so they're best ignored.

Until the full details come out there's no point leafing through possible sanctions. One moron was talking about cancelling his contract. Christ almighty.

Let's just see how it unfolds and go from there.

Moral code is not a law. You are right. But you can't say that it is good to smoke or get drunk. I took that as an example when I said that because something is not forbidden it isn't always right thing to do.
If the police were all piling on top of his friends smashing him with batons and Harry was defending themselves and him, he’s well within his rights.

sounds like there was a scuffle between 2 groups and theyve turned up taking no prisoners. Does maguire really seem like the thuggish type to you? Not in his nature at all.

He might have been hit, turned and hit the person who hit him without realising it was a policeman until it was too late, like most other people would do.

Sorry.
They say that Lindelof was trying to cover him but ended up being too slow too react

Hearing that English fans (of who don't know), started giving it large to Harry and his mates, one of his mates went over to remonstrate, got involved in a brawl, Harry (as Captain) went to speak to the police/ref who promptly arrested him for resisting arrest and failing to wear a captain's arm band ! :)

If he is guilty of hitting an officer, he risks a prison sentence. The punishment for hitting an officer is probably harsher than for hitting an ordinary citizen. If he gets a jail sentence, I do not believe United will keep him.

Call my cynical, but I'd imagine a nice 'fine' will sort this right out. Famous person does something stupid, island suffering hugely due to lack of tourism requires funding... just saying there might be some 2+2=4 action going on here.

Seen more people complaining about fans wanting to sell him than actual people wanting to sell him

He hasn't gotten a fancy trim or started dancing up a storm so I doubt we'll be getting a chorus of 'Get him out' shouts anytime soon

Captain Rashy !?!?!?!?!?

Jesus Christ, when did we turn into Scousers overnight and airbrushing history into oblivion. Less than 18 months ago we had a booming thread bout bursting Rashy's Bubble. A decent human being without question as demonstrated in recent months. Captain material, not buying that.

There can't be more to this. The Hellenic police are known for their professionalism, their reason, and above all their honesty.

I haven't seen any videos of the incident so I can't say anything for certain. But as I said. you can't defend if he hit a officer. It's not that there are police officers waiting to hit football players for no reasons. We would have jails or police stations full with players. Truth will come out, sooner or later, of what happened.

For me, Maguire seem to be very nice guy. But how I see him and what happened can be two different things. I still think he should stayed at home in UK in this pandemic time.

It's not like every single time I've been to Greece, I've invariably seen some drunk Brit getting filled in by them for next to nothing...always with batons as well.

That said some of the more reputable news outlets are reporting quite a damning story that there was a fight between two groups and it was after that Maguire and two other threw at least one policeman to the floor and kicked/punched him. It's a lottery if true but not good news for us.

That is something the club should take up with their players. They have to treat them like adults, but should still warn them about fans of other clubs who want to cause trouble, that could easily have happened here as abroad. D***heads are the same no matter if they are in the UK or if they are abroad, actually they are probably even worse when they are on holiday.

The updated article the Guardian are running paints a somewhat more serious picture. References kicks and punches thrown by Maguire against the police. Could be in the shit I think.

Manchester United captain facing possible charge of assaulting police officer in Greece
Just read this, one of two ways to take imo:
1. This is correct reporting, in which case he's pretty f*cked. Aggravated assault of a police officer is no joke and he deserves what he gets imo if that happened. Given the Guardian is quoting a police officer, it seems legit.
2. It's Jamie f*cking Jackson doing the reporting, whose entire modus operandi since taking over from Taylor is to make United look as bad as humanly possible. He is absolutely insufferable and if it comes out that their source isn't real and he isn't charged with aggravated assault I hope we sue the sh*t out of him.

Young(ish) red blooded male couped up for weeks with the same people is let loose, gets insulted , allegedly, and reacts. If it was anyone else, who would give a toss? Professional sportsman, idiots see £££££’s from the Sun for their ‘story’. Usual Summer no better news to report.

When the residents warn you not to look the coppers in the eye, you know you're going to be in for some fun.

I'd just like to wait a little while before we declare him a violent thug who should never play for the club again.

It’s from a report made by the Greek police. They’re saying that’s how it happened and he’s being taken to court later.

i guarantee he will be out on bail and he will paint a very different picture of the incident.

Seems likely.

Manchester United captain facing possible charge of assaulting police officer in Greece

Well the Guardian wouldn't be making up quotes from a police officer so looks like there's some truth to this.

Hopefully he gets off with a fine. I'd probably take the captaincy off him and give it to Bruno who is going to be more marketable anyway.

Do guys still enjoy "lads" holidays and heavy drinking holidays? They stopped being really fun in your early 20's.
