Usually there is what we refer to as a "court of justice" to decide whether he should spend time in prison or not.

The bolded part is the myth. Invented very recently.

Of course someone can be racist against a majority. It's simply wrong to assume somebody is bad based on immutable characteristics alone. People of all races can be both bad or good. So it's best to leave race out of it when judging a human being.
 
He’ll be locked up if the hitting charge is true. Not gonna happen though. But his captaincy definitely is under threat.

No. That s not what I said.
Police take to court and accuse you of doing something wrong . If police arrest you they should have a reason, otherwise you can sue them for illegal arrest.
Then the court decides. Not the police, you or me

Hmmmmmmmmmm "verbally abusive" and "hit" can be seen in a lot of ways, especially when certain police officers are involved.

No one has been better since, but you could make a case for Robson in same era, let alone older captains. It's not a slam dunk.

I’d say read the thread again to see the stench of xenophobia.

I apologise if I’ve put you in that box. I was ultimately questioning why we are all suddenly advocating someone for captain, due to an incident that’s not even proved (as yet).

No, we don't know the facts but that won't stop us from lurching towards a snap judgment, making sweeping generalisations about the drinking habits of entire countries and using this as a long-awaited opportunity to strip him of the captaincy.

We're classy like that.

It's not, but I would prefer it. Because we will need to assert ourselves with the referees, and we need someone who can pressure them. Yes, Silva, and all, but I want us to have ways to pressure referees correctly on top of playing very well. Maguire commands the respect needed for that very specific role. We also need to pressure the opposition players so that they stop thinking they can foul us without consequences.

We've had Cantona as well so it's not all Black or White.

No. There is a difference between "bad" and racist. You can be bad, you can't be xenophobic against the majority native population. That doesn't even make sense. Lookup the definition of the word.

Doubt if anyone will agree with your pretend offence though. Playing offended isn't a get out of jail card for every situation. Try honest discussion next time.

That is fair. Now you are naming traits that Maguire possesses that you appreciate and is not just him being English. And like you said - Cantona had those as well. I have no problem with that. I do have a problem with discrimination based on national origin.

Greek DA: When the Greek police say he is definitely staying put, he is staying put. Here in Greece, we don’t treat definitions lightly (just ask Socrates (no, not the footballer)).

Ole: He’s a leader, duh. The lads will follow him anywhere.

Yeah, it is too easy to make snap judgements on the internet. I doubt we're the only lot currently doing it right now.

Difficult position for the club and not an ideal one for Harry either. Have to just see what happens. If it does turn out to be true that he has hit a policeman, the media will be wanting blood. Not sure what the club can do in a situation like that. Can't seem to remember of a similar, comparable incident.

Maguire is the captain. For me, as a team performing in the EPL, we need ideally an English captain, or at least someone who will have ways to pressure the referee in the right way. Maguire is an English international and has a certain image, I would keep him.

Bruno does not the armband to command Martial, Rashford, Greenwood and Sancho, and to positively influence Fred or Pogba. He is that kind of leader.

Assuming somebody is bad or inferior based on their skin colour is racism. Regardless of the race in question.

I'd like to make an apology. When I wrote "Why can't you Englishmen behave once you leave your island", it come across as a xenophobic generalization. I did not mean all of you.
What I should have written was "Why can't most of you Englishmen behave once you leave your island."

I guess the frustration from the (reputedly) stupid behavior of Maguire made me say some things I shouldn't have. For that I'm truly sorry. From now on I'll try to be more precise when I generalize.

I will now lay down langflat.
