See this is the problem. Who cares how Ronaldo played. If he isnt good enough get rid of him too, but why are you excusing Maguire. Jesus christ it is okay to just say yeah Maguire is not good enough, and he is mentally fragile and he needs replacing.
Apparently we should be happy to go years without winning anything, and expecting the best from Manchester United isnt warranted. The Glazers have really managed to delude a portion of our fanbase.

The more you guys follow them, the more nonsense such media outlets generate. I believe it's best that Maguire has a fresh start elsewhere, and I think Ronaldo has been a hugely disruptive presence who also needs to move on.
I completely disagree with that and i'm someone that thinks Maguire is not actually a bad defender. It was a team that shipped 44 goals in the league and had fans constantly moaning about whether it was his or Lindelof's fault or the midfield's lack of protection (McFred). Maguire's best season at the club was his first.
I used to think the whole division between the two camps was just lazy media stuff but it seems there's maybe an element of truth in it. As much of an a-hole Ronaldo is he's also a serial winner and I suspect he was shocked at the quality of the players and the culture in the dressing room. That doesn't absolve him but he came into a team of players that always seemed to flatter to deceive and bluff their way through their United careers. They'll get you second place but they'll get knocked out of the champions league group stage, they'll beat City with a plucky performance one week and then ship 4 against Liverpool another week. I don't like Ronaldo at times but I can sympathise with him and also Varane for the situation they were in.

In my opinion, Maguire had a shake first half of the first season, not to wonder with the Greek incident hanging over him. Then he gradually improved. I think Lindelöf was better that season. Apart from the collective wobble of the whole team after the no preseason covid debacle, he was our best defender in 20/21, him or Shaw. Many held this opinion at the time, and it clearly hurt us when he was injured by the end of the season. In the EC he was named in Team of the Tournament. After Ronaldo’s arrival, he dropped of a cliff, IMO. Why?
I think in a way it’s unfair to hang either Ronaldo or Maguire out to dry, even if they should rightfully be criticized. There are many players and coaches who acknowledge Maguire’s mentality and leadership qualities, fans verdicts bear little weight compared to that. It is easy to see that Ronaldo’s ego drive can be disruptive to a team, it’s nothing new - and at the same time, that personality has been a driving force behind several CL wins, league wins, an EC win. Ultimately, it’s up to the club leaders to evaluate how this will work. Getting Ronaldo back was, facts in hand, an ill devised plan that even if spurred by Woodward and Joel Glazer, probably cost Solskjær his job. In retrospect he probably should have said ‘him or me’ when the idea was first flouted. It’s really of little interest to excuse Maguire for letting shit get to him - the point for us is that it did, and that has to be handled. Which Ten Hag seems to be doing.

Not that I attribute Maguire being shite last season to Ronaldo, but it is absolutely wrong to say Maguire was "shite well before Ronaldo arrived".
He was really good in the 2020/21 season, and had a solid 2019/20 season with us too.

All I keep hearing is will Maguire take his chance when one of Varane or Martinez are rested or injured....has everyone completely forgotten about Lindelöf? He's the better player and is better suited to Ten Hags style of play. Maguire should be fourth choice behind Lindelof.

If it was true that Ronaldo went to speak to Rangnick, then that came after most of those horrendous performances and scorelines we were subject to under Ole. So that means that Maguire had fallen off months and months prior.
My issue with some fans on here is that they continually give players a free pass, it’s why players like Shaw are still running about after 2 decent seasons in 9 years, it’s why Maguire is still captain of this club etc

United could surely fetch 50 million for Maguire. England first team international, experience in europe and exposure to captaincy at a big club. Maguire does well in a counter attacking team or a three man defence. Anything else his weaknesses are amplified.
I happen to believe that Maguire was bad last season and would've had no recourse to complain had Rangnick chosen to drop him but also that it is completely out of line for Ronaldo (and any other player for that matter) to tell the manager that he should drop him (or, again, any other player).

Eth should send him to warm up minimum 4 times a game, and whenever we seem to be dropping in performance on the pitch. When the players see him warming up they'll kick up a gear for sure.
