He was decent in the first half. You have a very strange idea of the word "poor." Keeping a clean sheet and them barely having any chances gives him a default "job done" in that first half.

Bewildering comments some of the decisions Maguire made against better opposition the team would be punished. Maguire excels in areas that don't align to the managers philosophy. On that basis is clear to identify what his future will look like. The drop off in quality between Harry and Varane in possession is monumental whilst Martinez has been outstanding it shows the difference between a player who belongs at the level the club is aspiring to while the other is with no injuries in the fringes.
I don't get the praises. He came into it when we were busy defending. When we needed to play, he was at sea.
Did well in the last 30 but really it is indicative of the problem with him, sit back, defend the box he can be very good but that style of play is incredibly restrictive for the team as a whole. His lack of mobility was always going to lead to this.

Passing was poor, but his defending at the end was excellent so he absolutely deserves some praise.
Didn’t catch the first half but he was alright in the second. He needs to move on, but for the current fourth choice centre back you have to take that performance.
He played well, looked nervous at the start but grew into it. Some of our fans are simply incapable of looking at individual performances objectively

That first half demonstrates why he can't play for ETH. Every time Dalot got forward Maguire got destroyed, we can't afford to just have the back 4 all sit deep and that's clearly not how ETH wants to play either.

You have player like Maguire, AWB in the back and soon the other team will be all over us. Those extra touches, extra seconds, unable to see through the line invite pressure. First half WH didn't try to press and it was good for us. Second half moment they started pressing we started dropping back and further back. That's the trap player like Maguire will never be able to break. All remains is defend with your body in and around your box and hope they don't score.

Agreed. I don't mind Maguire in general, but his decision making on diving in on the halfway line is pretty awful when we're on the front foot. Was very good second half defending the box.
Yeah nothing to do with Eriksen and midfield play in general being absolutely useless to keep the ball after 51 minutes of the game yeah. Does anyone really understand football here really? Blame Harry Maguire for everything a player who started after more than 7 weeks or so...
No he wasn't. Dalot, martinez, de gea, shaw all above him. We didn't control the game and maguire is not a player you want if eth wants to play progressively.
Yeah probably that, but he also seems like a nice dude. Basing this entirely of his demeanor though, he might well be a complete knob.
He was absolutely terrible for the first 60-70 minutes of the game. Downright abysmal.

I don't have much of a read on his personality, seems like a normal bloke who was pushed into a level slightly beyond his capabilities and became a victim of groupthink turning him into a joke figure.

Dalot was superb, maguire had a decent game. His football ability comes from being decent when our backs are against the wall. We don't play like that, and harry needs to be moved on. He was diving in far too earlier in the first half which could have cost us but let's forget about that
That's just not the case. He was an endless cavalcade of mistakes, insane positioning, and so slow that he might as well not have been on the pitch.

Looks far more comfortable defending the box than pushing the play forward. Helped us keep a clean sheet so job done.
If he is to have a chance here we need to take the captaincy away and the pressure that goes with it. Martinez is the leader of the defence and Casemiro in mid and Bruno up top. Being captain now, is an added pressure that he does not need. Get back to basics of defending and he might have a small chance. He looked absolutely ridiculous directing players in what they should do and telling Martinez even where to pass..
