Absolutely had it with this guy. We all know his partnership with Lindelof doesn't work yet Lindelof gets majority of the flack. The fee wasn't his fault but because of the fee he is constantly backed by Ole despite being bang average. Never a leader makes a lot of mistakes. If Utd want to win trophies and compete at the top level slab head is not good enough

He's absolutely brain dead. What was he thinking for the equaliser? He's the captain, he should be controlling the line. Just as he was starting to play a little better he goes back to normal. I'm sorry but he really is just an average player.

lets for a second accept that he isnt playing them on. Why the hell is he right at the back of the Everton players and not in the middle of them?

An even clearer image is below. He is in no position to contest any headers.

Coward. Look how deep he drops because he moves like a snail and he knows he wouldn't recover. This guy is 6 feet 4 and an absolute pussy

One of the most shocking and woeful moments was when he blatantly dived in that one on one with DCL and threw his arms in the air after he had been outmuscled and outplayed. It was disastrous. He isn't able to organise, or provide any sort of confidence. He's another problem and the fact we need to sign a particular CB to balance out his deficiencies says it all.

It happens so many times at the end of games, I remember the Burnley game which is one he played well overall but in the last few minutes he was all over the place and we could've easily conceded a goal because of his lack of composure.

He didn't defend poorly today, as a team we only gave up 3 shots on target.
Both him and Lindelöf actually missed a few of DCL’s runs in the first time and were bailed by Shaw & once by a few centimeters (although Wan-Bissaka played him onside at least two times and should get his fair shame of the blame). The defending for their first was simply criminal, he had an advantage and had managed to lose it completely and let DCL to get the ball unopposed — all in a space of a few meters (and it’s not Bale he had lost this run to). Him lying on the ground, waiting for a whistle that’ll never come while DCL ran straight towards our goal was also inexcusable. The third goal was poor from the entirety of our defense.

It was a horrible performance, there’s no two ways about it. He’s not alone, obviously — De Gea played a stinker, Lindelöf had managed to avoid most of the goalscoring episodes, which is never a good sign for a player, Wan-Bissaka was great in one on ones but positionally poor... Shaw was great, but that was it. But Maguire was extremely poor — which is a trend; he plays well most of the time, but when his bottom level (and those performances happen quite a few times per season) is simply horrendous.

We can concede at any time in any game as long as Harry is in the team. I’m not blaming him for the equaliser, he took the far post and that’s fine. AWB and Axel shouldn’t have allowed Keane get the first header. After that, nothing anyone could have done.

How much money and time will we spend trying to find his partner? It’ll take a new manager to take the captaincy of him too.

Had some time to reflect and.... nope, I still just don't think he's cut out for a top club, the first goal we conceded highlights exactly why.

He can see everything unfolding around him, from Everton building up through the middle to DCL being right on his shoulder. He even gives himself a headstart, yet all it takes for DCL to get all the way to the byline is a simple ball inside Maguire, who gets waltzed past like he's not there.

I think Solskjaer is doing a good job at steadily evolving the team in to one that plays their football higher up the pitch and recycles possession effectively - it hasn't worked out all the time but yesterday we showed that we can do it at a fairly high level.
Naturally, this means there will be times when your full backs and midfielders push higher up the pitch to suffocate teams, but in order for us to do this and not leak goals like a sieve, we HAVE to have centre backs that can cope with being exposed, we've all seen numerous times how easy it is to breeze past Maguire one on one.

Ultimately I think the 1st and 3rd goals were mostly De Gea's fault, he was gutless yesterday... however I the phase of play leading up to the 1st goal is one that I can see hurting us a good few more times this season. Maguire's not a bad player, but I just think that his inability to deal with being even slightly exposed will hurt us more and more as we continue to evolve as a team.

145 mill on this carthorse, wan bissaka and James....Got to be one of the worst transfer windows ever.

I really like the guy but that kind of diving is graceful for a captain and an otherwise dominant CB.

The last goal, him and De Gea were absolute shite. Getting outrun is no surprise, but the defending on the free-kick is League one standard. Needs to have a hard look at himself

Anyone got a theory on why he’s never singled out for criticism by pundits?

Problem is that as bad as these moments are, he's still our only reliable defender when the ball is in the air.

We've been one of the weakest teams on set pieces since he came in, but he's only one person.

Obviously he can't play everyone onside for the third, but that's a hoofball, our players near to where it comes down have to deal with it.

I think part of the reason he's constantly exposed is not his fault per se, its that 3 of the 4 other defensive players are DDG, AWB and Lindelof, all of whom are absolutely not good enough when the ball is in the air.

AWB has a clear, untouched chance to just time his jump right and we wouldn't be having this discussion.

At the time it was considered a very sensible window, great even. James you can forgive as he was a 15m punt from the championship. Wan Bissaka must have looked half decent at palace, I’m assuming. But Maguire for that price is insane, there’s plenty of tall defenders who can’t defend out there - you don’t need to spend that on one.

Have you seen my post above? If he is our only reliable header of the ball. He should be in the mix with Everton players. Not behind them all.

That's not the point though. If Maguire had been in line with the rest of the team, the second ball wouldn't matter.

Of course it would have because the flick is the last touch from a Everton player before hitting DCL.
AWB is the main player at fault here for me, it was a 40 yard pass and he completely misjudges the flight of the ball allowing Keane to flick it on

His lack of pace is a real concern, we need someone with real pace next to him to overcome this deficiency, Lindelof doesn't have it. A new CB is required, Bailly is always injured and Tuanzebe hasnt convinced anyone yet.

Dont think it was considered a great window at the time either, we were addressing the right areas but were paying top money for not quite top quality, agree that it seemed a sensible, but pricey, window at the time...It looks a terrible one now. James is rubbish, Eze cost 19 mil from the championship and looks several levels above him and Wan bissaka and Maguire have such limitations that they genuinely hinder how we want to play. All 3 have got one outstanding quality, then are dreadful to average at all other aspects of playing there position.

For the Maguire supporters, we need to replace our whole backline to make sure we get the best of him.... how about we just get rid of this turtle instead?

He can play a good game and then ruin our offside trap although that wasn't the main problem. Should have done better for their 1st and probably second goal, how was James alone for that shot.

What we need is to move on from Maguire. Expecting someone else to cover for his deficiencies is madness and will just exert unfair and unrealistic pressure on whoever happens to be his partner. Said partner will not manage to be there every time and all the time.

He's a decent center back who is good enough to form a top partnership with a better CB IMO. So of all our defenders, he's the one who will likely last, but he's not the main guy. It's not a case of who is the right partner for him, but who will he be the right parter for and us getting that main center back elsewhere. There's too many lapses of concentration defensively and we're just too weak defensively from set pieces, which are both things that is on nobody but him to sort out essentially.

This.

Partner him with a defender as quick as Usain Bolt & he’s still getting turned as he did for Everton’s first goal.

You can’t burden his partner with babysitting his main weakness; his pace/lack of agility are glaring holes in his game which were critiques made when he signed - we need to stop compounding them & move on.

And what we get from that? You expect that that other super fast defender will run left and right to cover Maguire? How he would help in their first goal?
But if that is the case then why exactly we need Maguire? It is like saying that we need another striker who will play with Martial and score goals.

Good points.

The way I see it, Maguire will never be a part of any partnership that wins anything significant.

I'm somebody who has tried to defend Maguire and back him but I just don't see it anymore. He's a decent PL centre back at best. He's certaintly not a leader and plays cowardly at times. Ole should do Maguire a solid and take away the armband in the summer he's out of his depth leading this team.

Need to see less of the arms out complaining to the linesman, and more organising and taking charge of that defence.

You need your captain and your most experienced player in DDG to be taking charge and managing games like this.

It was pathetic to watch.

Two of the worst headers in our side vs Keane? It is asking for trouble. Anyone can tell you that.

Spot on. People have this idea that one speedy CB would be able to always cover for Maguire. Lindelof often covers for Maguire, especially when he pushes up high to win aerials. If he misses Lindelof is behind him to save the situation. But when Lindelof doesn’t cover, it is not because he isn’t fast enough, it’s because he has another job to do somewhere else.

I thought Ruben Dias would be another shit City CB signing but watching him now and comparing him to Maguire yesterday....

If Maguire is £80m Dias is worth £160m.
