Harry Kane

I don't think there was much service to him. I would love him at United but you have to create chances. I mean going by our performance today, we were boring for the most part but we will get better as the season goes on. I think Kane would have struggled in our team today, because we were too slow and we didn't get in behind the defense enough. Spurs had a lot of play in front of us and they were useless for the most part. The goals will come once the chances arise. I think he would have scored but for Smallings tackle on the edge of the box. Smalling defensively is a really good defender. Kane is still developing but I fancy he'll get 20 goals for spurs if they get their balance right.

Still young though isnt he? What would he do with better creative players behind him?

Young, but compare him to the strikers who have led our line in the past; Van Nistelrooy, Cantona, Tevez, Rooney, RVP etc. Looking at his style of play I don't seem him ever reaching their level.

He's good and hr showed he has a bit more to his game than goals, but he's not worth anywhere near the money being bandied about. Called it before, smalling had his number all game and I guarantee largely down to how he was instructed to play against him. Hell struggle to reach the tally he got last year, but he has gone up in my estimation after watching him.

There are some weird reactions going on here.

First of all, being beaten more often than not by Smalling speaks more for the United defender, who has clearly grown over the last two seasons. Secondly, if Kane´s pass at the beginning is converted by Eriksen, it becomes a completely different game.

It turned out to be a pretty unatractive game, where the midfields negated each other and stood out by a clear lack of productivity. Logically, both respective strikers struggled and starved under a lack of service. What exactly was Kane supposed to do? Beat the complete opposing defense by himself? That would have told more about the defense than him. With so little service by the midfield, no striker should be allowed to accomplish much.

For the record, I do think that Kane is overhyped by the media, but this is hardly a specific problem of him, but rather happens to every English player who shows a bit of ability.

He'll score between 15-20 goals this season, is my guess. Not the breathtaking level he showed last season, but he'll back them in regularly. Even if Smalling did well against him today, he showed glimpses of quality, especially in the first half.

Is he good enough to lead the line for us? I'm not sure. I think this season may show that Spurs may be the right level for him. It's a fine line though, and he certainly has the potential to take that next step.

Nothing wrong with this tbh. I wouldn't read too much into it either.

If I was an England international and some kids of other teams asked my autograph I'd make an effort and sign a few.
Nobody said that there was anything wrong, just encouraging considering the rest of the spurs team was in team bus.

Started rather well and caused us some problems early on. That early scooped pass to Eriksen was exquisite. Found himself more isolated as the game went on and faded out of the game.

One day the penny will drop for United fans ... one day.

Strange comment given the history we have with Spurs players.

Personally wouldn't go anyway near Kane this season, quite rightly you'll take us to the cleaners for him or just point blank refuse to sell, not a chance is he a £50 million + player at this point.

Feck sake, he's not even close to that number.

I thought Kane did well today all things considered. He didn't get much but seemed to constantly involve himself. Smelling had a good game, and helped contain him, but he should of had an assist from Eriksen.

He was better than Rooney imo.

Since it looks like we are playing 442 id be all for it.

for everyone worried Rooney looked a bit sluggish today, not sure Kane was too much better.

It is early days though, was a fairly tight game.

If we're playing your Bournemouth and Sunderlands and not getting more than 1 shot off it's then time for worry

Personally I was nervous when he got on the ball and he looked like he might make something happen today. Smalling was out MotM for keeping Kane quiet and rightly so, but Kane was not provided with any really good service to note, and Spurs seemed to go for a more journeyman like performance than real creativity.

We need something different up front, Rooney looked very poor today. Would like to see Hernandez back on the pitch and would have preferred him as the 3rd sub. If we have a chance to get Kane then pay £40m and sign him.

We definitely need a striker or attacking player, judging by our last few games.
I just don't think that Kane is right for us, at this moment in time.
It would be better for him, us and Spurs if he stays where he is.
If he has another stellar season, then we should bid (huge) next Summer, knowing that we are getting a proven goal scorer in the EPL and not a 1 season wonder.

Hernandez and £45 million should be enough for Levy to sell IMO as long as he can get a couple of decent strikers with that money.

He wouldnt have done better yesterday. Chances are so limited, the striker gets the least touches in this system. Obviously he will outscore Rooney, Rooney would outscore Rooney too if he played for Tottenham.

Its going to be so disappointing if he gets anything less then 30 goals this seasons playing as a number 9.

And the fact we pay him 300k a week

You're right, but I'm impressed by Kane tbh, his link up play and ability to play one touch pass and move with Erikson was pretty good. This is totally missing from Rooneys game these days (if it was ever there). Benzema would also be very good at this, and it would help us create chances especially with someone like Mata around

Then be ready for a disappointment. Not shooting the penalties, sharing the freekicks with Mata and Depay, i dont see him scoring more than 20, nevermind 30.

In that poll last week i tipped him for 10-15 goals, which seems fair compared to what he did the last few years. While he got shifted around, i dont think we will get the best out of him this season. The number 9 has to sacrifice himself for the team, and if the team plays badly, i dont know how he can score goals or create something when it doesnt go well. I hope something changes.

That was impressive. But i still wouldnt expect Harry to take the ball and go past 3 players to smash it in the back of the net. Thats just not possible in our current setup. Kane got the ball and Eriksen made that run, the pass was brilliant, i agree. Rooney takes the ball and there is no one making a run, the only option he has is a sideways pass to Young or Mata or play a backpass. Rooney has decent link up play in him, but at the moment he struggles with everything and not everything is his fault. Not taking anything away from Kane, but the money and time to get him and what he would offer more just isnt worth it.

I thought Kane was really impressive yesterday. He seems to work well with eriksson. He doesn't give the ball away and has good link up. Tottenham would be really good going forward if they actually had decent wingers who could make moves in behind

I agree, whilst he didn't look like scoring his overall game was ok, and he almost got a VERY good assist. I'm warming to the idea of him as our 9, his use of the ball is very good

I thought it was the sort of performance people would be critical of if it was in a red shirt. A bit of fart and no shit.

Yeah but the next time he sharts in a tottenham shirt peeps will be back on the Kane bandwagon

He was okay yesterday. Spurs didn't create much, just like we didn't. Kane's movement and first touch looked very good though. Great hold up and control of the ball. The dink to Eriksen was superb. I'd be worried about his lack of pace though.

I've warmed to the idea since we've moved to this new formation, where wide players and the second striker could add pace. When we were playing 4-3-3 you would be worried but with another striker up there you'd think we would get enough pace

10 to 15 goals from your out an out striker won't win you the league and best will get you top four. I really do think Van Gaal will point the finger at Rooney if United don't win the title this season and say that the whole world and the entire media wanted Rooney to play as number 9 and this is what he offers so don't blame me.

Didn't do much against us but I was actually impressed by his general hold up play. Neither of the no.10s were great in the game but Kane came out the better performer IMO.

I still think he'd score more for us than Rooney this season if both had the same 10 players behind them.

Almost as if he'd be following in Lineker's tradition.
