Harry Kane MBE | Performances

World class striker wasted at a side that won't win anything. Hope he moves this Summer.

Maybe I wrote him off too soon. Another 2 or 3 would be nice, Harry Kane MBE

Never understood the people that did not rate him. Clearly a phenomenal striker that would be smashing the goalscoring records had he played for a non-Mourinho team.

Both his goals were brilliant today. For the first he had an extremely acute angle to aim at and somehow managed a perfect finish past Schmeichel. The second one was just pure brilliance. He is really the complete striker - pace, finishing, creativity, physical presence - he has it all.

People writing him off are just stupid.
Hardly outrageous to suggest a striker who was popping 30 a season but has now gone down to 17 and 17 is on his way down now, is it really?

Exactly what City need. Clinical finisher who would get 30+ easy in a top top team.

He has now scored 33 goals this season for club and country. In a season he suffered serious injury. In 39 games played.

17 league goals in 28 games. 17 in 28 the season before.

He’s back in form at the moment, so no real need to take it further. We’ll see next season.

How can you not rate someone who has as many goals as he has so far in his career? who do you rate as a forward?

I think he’s a great finisher, but he’s not someone I’d want at United. I find him slow and I also think he’s declining, even if he’s still bagging.

If we ignored the transfer fee, I’d take him every day of the week at Utd.

However, at a cost of £100m + we have other priorities, most notably Sancho and RW. Everyone has a budget, and we desperately need a decent option on the right.

RVN wasnt the fastest out of the gates, nor was RVP.

Dont get me wrong at his current market value of ridiculousmonopolydollars000000, of course I dont want him here. But there was a window where we definitely could have made a play and splashed down some serious money on a young Kane. Was it a gamble, yes, and maybe no? Was he, at the time an English striker that could of defined our front line for years to come? Yes? I liked Redrom. Do not get me wrong, I just do not think he was in the same league as Kane.

RvP was technically sublime, and RvN is the best finisher I’ve ever seen. I don’t think Kane is anywhere near either of them in those aspects. Like I said, I think he’s a good finisher, I just don’t believe he’d be a fit for us.

This is just facepalm-inducing. Even if you want to rate him solely on finishing, he's been the third most clinical finisher in all of Europe over the last six years (above CR7, Lewa, Ibra, Salah, Aguero, Auba, Benzema, Suarez, Neymar, Cavani, basically name a player who isn't Messi). And one of the most consistent too in that his reduced goalscoring over the last two seasons is a direct result of fewer chances (and injuries) rather than a lower conversion rate.

If you care about other aspects of the game, he's at least a solid 7.5 in all of them (except probably raw pace). His passing is sublime for a striker. Just see today's game, or many of his performances for England since the WC (where he's been playing as a sort of 9/10 hybrid).

I may be a little "biased" in the sense that I love Harry but it also means I've seen every game he's ever played in, so I've seen tons of stuff that never makes it to highlight videos.

Aye man, it’s not by force that I have to like Kane. What the hell

I don’t think he would suit United. Whats facepalm inducing about thinking RvP was miles ahead of him technically and that RvN was a better finisher? not that any of that is relevant as our team and playstyle now is different than the team those guys played in, I merely voiced my opinion regarding those aspects because a poster quoted me mentioning those two players.

I'm not trying to force you to like him, mate! I'm arguing against the idea that he's clearly inferior to RvP or RVN. I don't think he's inferior to either of them in overall ability. To each their own, of course, but I think it's unfair to describe Kane as "a good finisher" and nothing more. He's a phenomenal finisher, if nothing else, but he has a lot more to his game than that.

If someone says "great player but not my cup of tea", fair enough.

Then perhaps you need to re-read my post before face-palming yourself into defensive posts about claims that were never made. I never said he was inferior to either in overall ability  I specifically emphasised the aspects of their game which I think were superior to Kane’s.

Fair enough. That's a misunderstanding then. I've read your original post several times now over different days and it still sounds like you're saying that those players were better than HK. I think that's the most natural interpretation, especially of "nowhere near [as good at the thing Kane is best at]".

Even if you want to say that RvN was a better finisher, Kane is objectively, by every statistical measure available, one of the very best (i.e. top 3 or 4 in the world) of the current generation, which has included peak Messi and Ronaldo, so I just don't think the difference can be as big as you suggest. Obviously I would disagree that there is one.

Regardless, the facepalm line was a bit excessive. It was an exaggeration of my initial reaction. Sorry about that.

I'm bored and Kane has gone back to being underrated so I'm going to start shitposting statistics that will enrage anyone who says he's not good.

Top goals per game averages in UEFA Champions League (all-time)
0.83: Harry Kane (Tottenham) – 20 goals in 24 games

0.81: Lionel Messi (Barcelona) – 114 goals in 141 games
0.77: Ruud van Nistelrooy (PSV Eindhoven, Manchester United, Real Madrid) – 56 goals in 73 games
0.76: Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United, Real Madrid) – 130 in 170 games
0.76: Robert Lewandowski (Dortmund, Bayern München) – 66 goals in 87 games
0.70: Roberto Soldado (Real Madrid, Valencia) – 16 goals in 23 games
0.62: Gabriel Jesus (Manchester City) – 13 goals in 21 games
0.61: Vincent Aboubakar (Porto, Beşiktaş) – 14 goals in 23 games
0.60: Neymar (Barcelona, Paris) – 35 goals in 58 games
0.59: Mario Gomez (Stuttgart, Bayern München) – 26 goals in 44 games

Worth pointing out that Kane plays for one of the worst clubs on that list.

That kinda just highlights how flawed statistics can be. Especially when Soldado, Jesus and Aboubakar are in the list

The quality of Kane's passing should be spoken about much more. He's an exceptional passer of the ball and too often casual observes compare him to the likes of Aubameyang, as if he's just a top goal scorer, rather than an exceptional footballer. A year or two ago someone made a compilation of some a Kane's passes, but it needs updating. Post covid, he scored a lot of goals, but on here, during match day threads, I noticed more and more people commenting on the quality of his passing, so it's starting to get the attention it deserves. It took many fans years to accept Kane was the real deal as a goal scorer. It seems to be taking even longer for a lot of people to acknowledge that technically, he's an elite level player.

He's only played 5 games and one of those was the final when he wasn't really fit.

Fair, but that's the only question mark I still have around him. Euro 2016, WC 2018, CL Knockouts, even getting into the latter stages of the FA Cup I don't think his goal record has been that good? Maybe I'm wrong but the brief glance I've had of his tally in what he's played in wasn't anything to shout about and could be improved on.

No doubt he's an elite striker but he just needs that little extra to be at the very top.

Only 2/24 of those goals are in the knockout stages.
He's only played in 4 knockout games (IIRC)... He scored good goals against Juventus and Dortmund in them (and created another one as I recall).

Not a strong put-down of Kane there, if that was your intention. If anything, it highlights how out of place he is at Spurs.

ETA: Someone already beat me to that point.
