Harry Kane | "I will be staying at Tottenham this summer and will be 100% focused on helping the team achieve success."

Martial has obviously been shit this season, but last season he was our best player over the course of the season and rightfully won our Players' Player of the Year. That was him playing as a striker. The only other time he played as a striker (his first season) he was also one of our best players.

There is obviously a risk as you don't know whether you'll get last seasons Martial or this seasons (or maybe a bit of both), but if you take that risk and win out you'd have a better striker than anyone else I think you can realistically get. With you guys interested in signing him at least twice before in the past, it isn't that far-fetched.

We were interested in him when he went to Utd but I don't think there has been any serious interest since then. He hasn't exactly lived up to the hype. Our new manager will likely have their own targets anyway. Also, we wouldnt pay him anywhere near what he earns at Utd so no way would he even agree to come if we did want him.

Is there any news or rumours of who this might be yet?

Why would we need Martial when we are stacked in those wide attacking areas? He isn't a centre forward or at least, he isn't a very good one. Lingard  just no.
Well I can get you'd be underwhelmed if Kane was replaced by these 2 but I still think Martial would be good for 15-20 goals a season. Along with someone like Ings and Son, I think he could do decent over the course of a season for you guys. Anyway it's all hypothetical talk, not much chance of Kane actually coming to Utd, so all the swap talk is quite moot.

Is this the same Martial that has only ever scored more than 15 goals in a season twice in his entire career?

He's basically saying he wants to go to City in that interview  think he'd be happy to go to United or Chelsea as well but City being his preferred destination. They could be unstoppable with Kane upfront unfortunately.

Said it many times. Signing that deal with a guy like Levy is potentially career suicide. Grealish is making the same mistake.
And Zaha before him. The money these clubs can offer at the time is very tempting though.

Kane is reportedly on 130k a week. I'm sure a number of clubs would have easily been willing to pay him more.

If you're a player like Kane and you want to lea

Roberto Martinez is a shout, too. They wont get an "elite" manager. Reason being the squad is decent, but you're not going to get backed as much as you want by Levy, and you'll end up hamstrung and fecked off
I think they’ll go for Scott Parker, former player, london boy

Or was Grealish just safeguarding Villa’s financial security knowing that they’d get a big bid of 60m plus?
He’s such a Villa lad that he doesn’t want to leave yet but knows a bid will come

Just reading he was bigging up De Bruyne and saying he wants to stay in England in a recent interview. Very obvious the direction this is going.

IF Kane can extricate himself from Spurs and get to City, it's an amazing move for him. They're really well placed to win plenty of trophies over the next 3-4 years and he'll score bundles of goals in that side.

Think the thing that's saving Grealish is his age. At 25, even with four years left on the new deal, by time he gets to two years left on his contract he'll only be 27. Villa may even be persuaded to get rid of Grealish at 26, knowing that his value will fall a lot in the last two years of his deal.

Completely agree with you on Kane though. His PR campaign is unlikely to move Daniel Levy. If City don't cough up the cash it doesn't matter how bad Kane wants to play with De Bruyne.

He can't be sure a bid of that amount will come. The word is Villa want 80m. That's where players get themselves trapped. Imo, these players should not be signing these long-term deals without clauses. Kane is totally at the mercy of Levy and has little control over his future. Safeguarding Villa's financial security is just bad advice. His career should be his priority.

I don’t think that’s the point. Not wanting to leave cheap or free shows respect and loyalty to your boyhood club,
We’d be up in arms if Greenwood ran his contract down to get a move

Aah but do we have privy to what’s in his contract? :smirk:

With very achievable clauses, I have zero doubts. A player of his quality doesn’t just sign a base 130k for 6 years.

No

Who said he was leaving cheap? There was talk of 100m odd bids for him!

No

Not before he signed the extension there wasn’t. That was pure bs from the media.

Anyway this is getting away from the point. Kane was the player who shouldn’t have signed the extension

Admittedly, we don't but with everything that is written, it is reasonable enough to assume he doesn't have a b/o clause. A special talent like Kane should not be signing a 6 year deal at a club like Spurs without an exit strategy. Carragher is right.
Levy is within his rights to demand 150m for him and Kane can't complain.

The latter I totally agree with. The supposed gentleman’s agreement with Levy doesn’t hold water. It’s business and Levy will hold on to the contract details not a tenuous verbal agreement

He's only 25. Had 6 seasons at Utd, 2.5 of which were under a manager who didn't fancy him and didn't start him much. In the other 3.5 he's done quite well in 2 seasons and been shite in one. Players react differently to different environments, Lingard at West Ham being a classic example.

Look I'm not saying Martial would be a world beater for you, but I still think he'd be a decent enough signing for Spurs. I get it you don't fancy him and fair enough. Let's just leave it at that :)

Martial had a strange season, he never really got going, first half was stop/start, then the suspension, then the injury...I remember he had a lot of chances saved which he normally is more clinical, but it happens. No need to bin him off in the summer.

I can kind of understand Spurs fans turning their nose up at Martial, but honestly if he can rediscover last seasons form or the way he played against City he is an asset.

Just watched that whole video and more convinced than ever he's off to City. To speak with such openness about it must surely mean he's confident it'll happen.

Off to city for 115mil and a few rubbish fringe players from the city academy IMO.
