Harry Kane | Bayern Munich player

Absolute nonsense of a post. There's absolutely no evidence that he didn't want him.

The reasons for not going for him is a combination of a) the financial package required to get him combined with his age and United's finances, and b) it being very clear early on that Spurs wouldn't sell him to a PL rival.

The de Jong analogy makes no sense because we were actually encouraged by de Jong's club to come and get him due to their financial situation but it was the player who didn't want it.

Barca wanted to sell De Jong, but De Jong was clear from the start that he did not want to leave. Spurs did not want to sell Kane, but everyone knew that Kane is leaving. So, it was actually more certain that Kane will be sold than De Jong will be sold, which is contrary to what you are implying.

And yet, we made a lot of fuss about De Jong, and we did not buy any other midfield players because we waited for De Jong for 2+ months. On the contrary, for Kane we were very quiet and we quickly bought Mount, spending a big chunk of our budget. It was clear we are not interested. Or better, ETH wasn't interested. Perhaps his problems with Ronaldo made him believe that superstars bring too many problems.

Not according to The Athletic

I read that, it did not make me any wiser. Yes, of course, the club "thought" about it. Everyone was thinking about it. But just thinking about something means nothing. ETH did not really try to make it happen.

Quoting from the article: "By mid-June however, United had decided to go for Rasmus Hojlund as their big signing up front rather than Kane."

That's the whole point. If ETH really wanted Kane as bad as he wanted De Jong the previous year, he wouldn't agree to Hojlund or Mount, before trying hard to get Kane. We did not really try.

I also remember that SAF tried hard to get Shearer but he couldn't get him. It happens. (You don't always get what you want!) But SAF tried very hard to get Shearer and everyone knew that SAF wanted Shearer. Here, it is not the same. Sure, ETH will say that Kane is a great player, who can say otherwise? The problem is he did not really want him, so he did not really try hard to get him.

"That’s why, as striker options were being assessed towards the end of last season, Kane was top of the United manager’s list."

"Ten Hag may not have agreed with that calculation, given Kane’s proven pedigree, but he accepted the decision in the context of the budget once the realities of financial fair play had been mapped out to him. "

Didn't really want him? Or begrudgingly accepted that you couldn't afford him?

I for one am shocked Kane an elite striker, who even at his age, is scoring a shit ton of goals for plucky German underdogs Bayern.
I understand your shock, were you not dead certain he would not go to Bayern? :D
Apologies if i mixed you up with another poster.

Probably the best striker in the world. I think he's just edging it over Haaland now.

Can't help but think what could have been if Kane moved to a top club 4-5 years ago.

He had to do everything at Spurs, Im sure he had a season there where he had the most assists and most goals in the PL. Thought he was a better fit for City than Haaland, Pep went in twice for him but couldn't get Levy to budge.

How do Germans feel watching a real footballer play football in their country?

It must be like the first time man discovered fire

Agree. And if Kane really wanted to go to Manchester United he could have refused to go to Bayern. He could have told Levy to accept the Manchester United (if that was there) or he would go a year later on a free. Reports said he also had some enormous wage demands.

I just find it a bit annoying that some seem to think that Manchester United could just walk up to Spurs/Levy, pick a player and Spurs/Levy have to accept it because otherwise it is petty behaviour. Kane and Manchester United were never a realistic option.

If Arsenal could have sold RvP to Barcelona or any other non Premier League club, i think they would have prefered that too. Levy/Spurs did have that option.
I doubt he ever wanted to move to Utd. City more likely.

Top striker delivers for Bayern, who do you expect to be surprised?

We would've probably ruined him, and this same thread would be filled with people asking why we wasted 100 mil on another ageing dud.

We're like Jesus, if he turned water into liquid shite.
Na. If we had a goal scorer like him we would be way higher up on the table. If him and rashford scored like they did last season it would have been more than enough.

There are few who thinks Kane was begging to join us and it was us who rejected him

Yeah sure Kane would choose us over Bayern fecking Munich

We looked quite an attractive proposition in the Summer, with possible new owners and a world class CF being the most obvious gap in the team. I strongly suspect Kane would have preferred that move over relocating to Germany but we obviously weren’t in a position to make it happen.

As it is, we’ve instead gone backwards with poor signings, major injury issues and a lack of a clear style of play. Unless we completely turn things around, we won’t have any hope of signing a player at Kane’s level if a similar situation arises this summer.

The only title "guarantee" in England is offered by City. And they are one of the very few teams, possibly the only one, that does not need Kane. So if he wants to win titles and he can't go to City...

Whats the view from bayern fans? How does he compare to lewa at this stage?

Been good, and could easily have had more goals if Sané and Musiala looked around for a pass instead of trying to dribble past that 3rd or 4th man. But that has also gotten better recently, so hopefully something they've been made aware of.

So how can you say we "looked an attractive proposition" in the summer when we quite clearly could not offer anything near an attractive proposal?
Makes no sense whatsoever. All the "possible new owners" meant and are continuing to mean is the club being in limbo and not able or willing to invest.

He would have been rubbish here. We would have given him zero service. We have no style, no build up from the back, no control in the midfield, no wingers providing service. Kane, Haaland, Lewandowski, they'd all struggle here. I'd love a manager to just impose a semblance of attacking philosophy and cohesion then I'd have a bit of faith in any striker.

This. He'd have scored 25 tops while being starved of service and at best it would have carried us to a fourth place finish and papered over the cracks.
