Anyway, tonight was one of these European matches that Hargreaves was specifically bought for, yet he didn't play. I think that tells you everything about his performances this season, so far.
He didnt play because we have 5 quality central midfielders and only 3 could have been picked.
But these were the exact matches he was bought for. Had he not been either injured or playing average throughout the season, he would have played, but unfortunately his performances have been just that, average.
Thought it was a bit strange that he didn't start tonight to be honest.
As you said, this is what we bought him for, and he did well against Fulham.
Only thing that kept him out of the side tonight was probably Fletcher's stellar performance against Arsenal.
He was bought for away games in Europe in hard away games in the league to stifle the oposition - Hes started away in France, Emirates, Anfield. At home, there is not as great a need to do so, and so Fergie felt Carrick was adequate.
