To say his passing is poor does not give an accurate picture. You have seen him and therefore you know that he has very good passing ability, good range, has the vision to see and hit long passes and has good ball striking ability. His problem is not ability but consistency. His form and temperament are both volatile. I can understand if EtH doesn’t think he’s ready but it’s not down to his passing it’s down to everything he does lacking consistency and refinement. His tackling is probably more of a concern.
He's not inconsistent, he's very consistent in terms of his workrate, which is good but his passing is just consistently statistically poor. His stats would make more sense if he was playing as a winger rather than a midfielder. For him to make the grade as a midfielder then he'd drastically need to improve that aspect of his game. Personally i dont see him ending up in midfield at all, i see him playing somewhere in the attack because he can create. Im not convinced it'll be here though. Lets be real, if this lad was as good as we hoped he'd be when we signed him then he'd be getting pushed as hard as Mainoo is and despite being a few years older he isnt.

Just feels too early to let him go. He’s 20 not 23.
If you hold on to these lads too long though then they become far less attractive to other clubs. Talented 20 year old could be a gamble worth taking, he could be developed into something. 23 year old is already developed, you know his level from his loans and if he was going to show something special he would have already.

He looked decent in pre season, in my opinion. And there's a lot there to work with.

It's clear to me that ETH didn't fancy him. I just hope we're not sat here in 12 months time, with a different manager, saying how ETH messed up by allowing him to leave when he's flourishing elsewhere.

Could see him doing well in a Red Bull style 4-2-2-2 as one of the 2 attacking mids. They prize running and his struggles to get on the ball and pass it well might be mitigated.

Sell him to a club like Brighton or Dortmund for 20-25 million euro and slap a return clause of 40-50million. These clubs will utilise these young diamonds and improve them
No one's going to pay that much for him at this point. 5-10M tops.

I disagree. Nothing to add to what I’ve said. Time will tell.

How much do you expect us to get for him?

If we could get what we paid for him (€10m) then at the moment that would be good business imo, considering the FFP restrictions. Someone's got to offer that though...
Jaysus that’s totally not worth it for a 20 year old talent we rated highly. Let’s not be small time FC over 10 euros. I’d wait two years, to give him a shot at least.

Given his age, experience, potential, footballing education, and what he’s shown so far, he should be going for about 15m plus a fair few add-ons. Similar to what we got for Garner. There should also be a significant sell on percentage clause, as well as a buy back clause at a reasonable price. Say 25-30m.

Only other option is to loan him for another season somewhere he’s going to get exposure and games. A high enough level that his performances are valued but not too high as to make succeeding too difficult. A place where you g players are given a really fair chance. The two obvious candidates are the Bundesliga and the Dutch league. He needs top flight experience.

He’s definitely got enough about him to have a good career somewhere, but it’s hard to tell how good. At his age and stage of development, he needs to play. Holding on to him for a season to fill out the squad is pointless. He’ll hardly play and we are killing his value.

I agree with most of this. Don’t know what his value is really but if we’re selling him I wouldn’t care too much about the price as long as we have all the clauses in there and he goes somewhere that will be good for him.

I still think he’ll reach a very high level and we should regard a sale with a buy-back clause as another way of furthering his development, prior to a (potential) return to us.

Sell on clauses mean nothing tbh considering all the shit clubs pull to avoid paying out.

Slap a buy back clause on him

The club has been too reluctant with him.

Loan him in Ligue 1 as soon as possible.

There should be many clubs needing him.

I think he is top tier. It's very clear when watching him that his potential is very high. I am not sure what is holding him back, we are not privy to all the information about him within the club.

I feel sorry for him. He is ready to get playing time but it looks like he won't get a fair chance at all. Need a loan or get sold where he can play more.

I'd rather see us give him a chance than sign Gravenberch. Amrabat is a deeper operator so that signing makes sense.

He could stay or could go according to Whitwell with both Everton and Sevilla wanting him on loan.

this is the one thing id like to see EtH do a bit better with, incorporating more youngsters in. This seems like a great chance to see some hannibal time with the current state of our midfield.

Would he play for Everton ? I recall Garner barely featured last year but think that was due to injury. It makes no sense sending him out to sit on someone else's bench. Surprised a team like Sunderland or Middlesbrough aren't interested in him. I think that's his level right now and he would flourish under Carrick

Everton are in complete turmoil..sending him on loan there would be more of a punishment.

Excellent news. Let's hope ETH has it in him to give youngsters a chance here.

End thread?

I actually agree. I think he will surprise people. He is the type of player that will excel with better players around him. Can’t wait to see him in a full strength team.

If he’s staying then give the lad a chance, no point holding on to him only to have him sit on the bench every week, especially with the state of our midfield options right now.

He'd be daft to stay, regardless of what ten Hag has had to say. Actions speak louder than words.

If I was him, I'd be forcing a move.

Not exactly a great source. Likely depends on whether we manage a last minute move for Amrabat.
I would like Amrabat and Hannibal in the picture. Sell McTominay. Casemiro, Bruno, Mount, Eriksen, Mainoo, Hannibal and Amrabat would be decent competition for 3 midfield spots.

8th choice midfielder I'd imagine, wonder will a Turkish club come in for him? Looks like he's in desperate need of first team football which he's not going to get otherwise

I think with the amount of midfielders we have it'd have been better for him to go out on loan again, until at least January. Then again, that depends on when both Mount and Mainoo are back.

If they take a while then hopefully he'll earn a chance and takes it.

I think he will.get his chance now. So many issues and problematic midfielders at United have paved his way.
