Hannibal Mejbri - Manchester United Player

I’d love to know what actually caused the breakdown with Monaco? Were we simply just offering him a lot more money and he could get out of his contract? His dad is quoted a few years ago as saying money didn’t matter to them and that just as he was about to sign for Monaco Liverpool came in with a big bid which they simply rejected. He also said PSG never interested them as they feel its a club without a soul  Too right!

We have another gem on our hands here

All that shameless hacking he has to endure in the U23s has actually done him good. He was totally unfazed by the intensity and physicality. The moment when he half-dribbled half-scrapped his way out from amidst four pressing players was very promising.

He and Amad are the two who I wouldn't urgently send on loan. Amad should be a direct replacement for Mata in the squad, and I'd expect him to start getting games ahead of James in the right circumstances too. Hannibal should get a season like the one Amad just had - always training with the first team, but used cautiously and sparingly. Despite all the moaning on here, we can see that it hasn't done Amad any harm at all. Maybe Ole does know what he's doing after all.
I think of this in reverse. They're not good enough yet to really challenge for a first team space like Greenwood is, yet they are so skilled, having experience in a men's league would help them. The players we tend to loan out are usually average to poor. We never loan out the players that would actually come back good from a loan. Pereira was never good enough, him being brazilian and slightly more technical that our other academy graduates created the hype. If City had loaned at Sancho instead of selling him, they'd have another superstar on their hands. Not every player is rooney who can just come in and dominate from the off. Yet young players need experience to develop. I don't understand why there is such a repulsion to loans. I actually think they help. Imagine loaning out Hannibal or Amad and they come back in a year or two looking similar to Grealish or Maddison.

I'll be honest, I actually believe smalling, jones and Martial suffered from not having to face the rigors of playing consistently for teams where they were constantly under pressure.

Opts for Tunisia and a first call up is expected in the next few days.

Fairly big call that when he’s so highly rated. Also African Cup of Nations is always a pain. He’ll be getting plenty of international football from now on anyway….
ACON is only in Jan in 2022, it will go back to being in Summer the following tournament.

Gianluca Di Marzio has even written a piece on Hannibal in the last few days.

He's the first Tunisian to ever play for us. I hope he lives upto his name sake (Hannibal of Carthage) when it comes to making a name for himself.

Hmm means he will miss a month of football every 2 years due to playing AFCON? Not ideal for us but well his decision.
The AFCON was moved to the summer months if i'm not mistaken. He won't be missing anymore games than anyone else including Amad Diallo who will likely be called up by The Ivory Coast.

Is it every 2 years taking place?
yes every 2 years on odd numbered years so it doesn’t clash with the World Cup.

Good news then, hope he wins something with Tunisia. :)
He will be missing January 2022 because the 2021 tournament was rescheduled till then, but going forward it’s a summer tournament. I think it would probably come in a good time for him in 22 as he’ll definitely be getting some games for us by then and then can go off for a month of competitive men’s football and hopefully come back a stronger player with international tournament experience.

Old Trafford could do with some elephants

That name wasn’t a coincidence then.

It'll be good experience for him to play for Tunisia. Not going to pretend to know their squad but I'd assume he'd start for them?

.
He's named after a legendary commander (Hannibal of Carthage) who was from present day Tunisia.
No shit? Wouldn’t be the same that fought in the Second Punic war and was defeated by Scipio Africanus. Which incidentally a battle that was reproduced in that brilliant chariot scene in Gladiator.

I haven't looked too deep into it, apart from the internet search on the man. But I'll read more on the chap in the coming days.

Fascinating history. Just remember it from my classical history lessons in grammar school.

Roman military used a lot of his tactics after the wars.

Agreed, it was fascinating to read about him and he was described as someone who was ahead of his time.

Interesting news this. Surely with his talent would've been in with a chance of playing for France one day?

He’s done a reverse grealish! Just need the scintillating play and the French regretting his decision in the coming years

Why would you want the french to regret anything? Why do people want turn everything into something negative, if he is happy everyone should be happy.

He will be playing soon for the country he wants to play for, instead of waiting to play for France with a lot of competition, but having better chances for trophies. I am sure he is aware of it, but if he feels more connected to Tunisia and is happier like this, then good for him and everyone involved.

If he feels more Tunisian than he does French then that is the end of it tbh...there is nothing to discuss.

I don't see the joking part but fair enough.
To be fair, I didn’t think it was a mean spirited joke, I just thought he meant he hopes Meijbri becomes so good that France wish he had chosen them. I think even as a French United supporter you might feel the same?

I'd bet the vast majority of footballers play for the country where they feel more connected to. Only a very small minority pick a country that has a better chance at success IMO.

No, I don't feel that way but it's probably because it's very common for France. The only thing that matters is that the player is happy. I don't like the negativity around national teams and who play for which country.
