Granit "The Hacker" Xhaka | Likes his reds

You're not though, you were right that he's indisciplined but he's clearly the best passer and playmaker in our midfield bar Cazorla (not counting Ozil as he plays higher).

but his attack and defensive influence doesnt seem good enough (stuff like key passes tackles interceptions and all). passing well isnt enough surely?

Two red cards and two times he almost costed us the games. Need to have his head checked.
Two red cards a season is pretty much his average over the last 4 years, so it's not really that surprising. It also got worse from season to season, 1 red card in 13/14, 2 in 14/15 and 3 in 15/16. You better hope that he doesn't want to make it 4 to keep the trend going ;).

Which is why I wrote "his skillset is good"...
And being your best playmaker behind cazorla isn't really a compliment when the competition is Ramsey, Coquelin and Elneny.

Not the worst tackle, not the best tackle. Didn't matter in the end. He's better than Cackelin, the boneheaded twat.

I knew he was a disaster waiting to happen in the Premier League for the way he plays. Now we are back with only 2 CMs available.

I know there's some resistance to my idea of swapping Xhaka for Veratti, and it is not to say that Xhaka should be written off (I've written previously that his ceiling is far higher than what he's demonstrated so far).

But I think Veratti would be a perfect player for Arsenal. He would unlock creativity in the middle of the park which has been lacking without Cazorla in the squad.

And he's young, about the same age as Xhaka.

With that said, I hope he finds his way to old Trafford in the unlikely event he were to come to England.

Everyone would love Verratti here, but Arsenal will never spend big money for him. It's how we do our business.

He's not really in a position to play key passes, his length of pass, speed of pass and range of passing is why we got him. Getting good quality service to the wingers/full backs/CAM, ie the pre-assists. He has similar attributes to Arteta, Carrick and dare I say Xabi Alonso. For the most part those players didn't get much credit for positive impacts they had. I saw a Carrick thread on here and even your fans don't give him the credit he deserves. It's very much an unheralded role.

He needs a partner who covers for him and needs to improve his positioning. Defensively I think his ball winning is reasonable, his main failing been he lunges in when he doesn't need to and gets yellow/red cards and gives away freekicks. He needs to either come tight or drop back and cover. The jury is out for me but he has a great deal of potential there.

PSG are not selling Veratti, he's unbuyable.

Funny as I thought he'd improve Arsenal massively, mentality wise perhaps, but he seems to be a bit of an idiot in the end and not much of an upgrade either. Long may it continue.

This guy came on as a sub with 10 minutes left against United in the first game. I can honestly see Arsene make him play the full 90 minutes and do a job on Pogba for the second game.

I agree, that's why I'm annoyed we sold Schneiderlin, I was thinking we could've traded him for Suarez.

That's so unrealistic.

After all the trouble with Suarez and Evra, you really think he'd join us?

Divided opinions about Xhaka on ArsenalMania. Some are still saying he can be worldclass.

His passing is arguably up there, the length, accuracy, vision, speed of release. To actually be world class he'd need to improve several other facets of his game.

Not sure about world class but he still has time to take it up a notch.

stonewall red - both feet over the ball, more cos he was a bit late (got nutmegged didn't he, effectively) than malice but even so, brainless again

even Rojo would have been doing well to escape that one

I was 100% sure when I saw this live... Red all day.. But now who knows? Giflord surely has this covered..

My prediction is that Xhaka will improve when Veratti arrives next summer. I have a feeling Arsenal will make that transfer happen. Don't know why.

Am I missing something or did a United fan just suggest we should sign Veratti?

1 - We have enough players in that position.
2 - We don't have enough money to waste 80m on overrated midfielders.

You're kidding yourself if you don't think he'll be a vast improvement on literally any midfielder you can put out. Overrated maybe, but he's clearly on course to be probably the best in the world in his position. Is basically a one man midfield at times the way he dominates.

That being said, no chance he's going anywhere. Whatever other teams can offer PSG can offer more, whilst being in pretty Paris and all.

I make that prediction hoping that we sign him instead. Maybe I overrate him, but I wouldn't call him overrated in the mainstream English media, for example.

He will improve your team next year because he's better than every player you have in that position bar none. And if you can tie down Sanchez, with the addition of V you will be challenging for the title next year. If you lose Sanchez, it may be difficult.

theres no way veratti leaves and arsenal are allowed to sign him. PSG will bid on the entire arsenal roster as revenge

1. There's no resistance to the idea, there isn't a single Arsenal fan who wouldn't swap Xhaka for Verratti.
2. Swapping Xhaka for Verratti would be more like Xhaka + £50/60M for Verratti to be realistic on the fee.
3. I highly, highly doubt Verratti would ever go to Arsenal.

Well, where do we start with this? Ehm...I feel a little bit for him. Let me say that first and foremost, because I don't think he's being played in the right position. He's playing the holding role for Arsenal where he does get isolated cause of the way they play, and I think his strengths are his passing and his shooting, which are much better served higher up the pitch. When he plays in this role, as we will see in a second, he gets isolated I mean those stats are ridiculousy bad and he's becoming a liability, ehm, when he plays in this role we will see that he gets himself in all sorts of problems because of his lack of athleticism, I mean this technique he's found for trying to tackle its a silly technique cause he's off the ground its a scissory, scissory kind, him and Defour have this ongoing battle -I'm not sure whether that's coincidental- he keeps getting himself in these predicaments. He will end up not playing, cause the other players will get sick of him -too many times this season he's cost them. The actual incident here is a nobrainer for the referee, he's left the floor, he's caught him, and Martin to be honest we've looked at a lot of stuff today haven't we which we'll see now, he's getting himself to a point where Arsene Wenger wll find it difficult to choose him.
