Gaming Gran Turismo 7 (PS4/PS5) | Full game and online multiplayer confirmed in free PS VR2 update

Yea defo agree re the rolling starts, the time difference you have to make up over a few laps mean you need a much quicker car which is kinda annoying.

They're canny slow fixing the game breaking bugs aren't they, just done some daft keep thing, presume I should have dirt tyres but they're clearly not ffs

Sense of progression has gone completely out the window with racing games for a long while. Binned in favour of lootbox rewards, open maps with a billion collectibles and/or shit storylines.

Games like NFS and Forza definitely went down that route but circuit racers like GT7 (not played any of the more recent installments to say if they were different) and F1 games definitely give that sense of progression.

Finished the menu Cafe stuff and there isn't really any single player stuff left. Looks like the end championship will always be the same few races and some of the standalone are 10 laps for 70k (or 5k in a few cases!) with refueling and tyre changes. Quite disappointing really, want to play the game there just isn't much to do.

Those 5k endurance races are ridiculous. They're easy to do but the reward for them is stupidly low for seemingly no reason. I've nearly finished all of the races now that unlock post completion of the menu stuff and will start on circuit experiences while i wait for missions / licences to get fixed (Taking ages to fix that!). Visually and when you're driving it's excellent but they've fecked up a few things that stop it from being a true classic in the series at this moment in time.

Have you completed all the circuit experiences?

Money seems to have been set deliberately low, with mods costing a lot and the rare cars being insanely expensive. The cynic in me can’t see beyond connecting this to the way they’ve changed micro-transactions in this version over GT Sport.

They want people to be buying game credits.

Seems that way! I have about 3m in credits currently. Haven't spent that much aside from tuning 4 or 5 cars to the max. Definitely not going to buy credits but it's going to take ages to grind a sizeable amount if you're a full time worker.

I'm not arsed about low money and stuff, it's how it should be. Used to have to grind in the original GTs and decide which cars you were going to spend your precious coins on.

Games now fecking throw the top stuff at you too early.

Its not early in the game though. They’re races after the menu stuff (the main career mode) of the game has been completed and take 30+ minutes to complete giving you 5k. To have a car worth of competing you have to spend way more than that 5k.

This is simply not true at all. You got rewards that were appropriate to the championship or Cup you entered.

Additionally old gran turismo had way more options for what competition to compete in.

Weirdly I was looking them earlier, where the feck are they? Do you mean missions?

It’s within each location. So if you go to, for example, America and then select Laguna Seca, instead of selecting an event to enter, at the bottom there’s a few options including time trials (just you setting your best time in whatever car you’re in) and one called circuit experience. It’ll put you in a particular car and break each circuit down into segments, with bronze/silver/gold sector time targets, followed by a full lap.

The times are very challenging on some of them, and the cars are usually fast.

This immediately makes it sound better than Forza. It's such a mindless game in the long-term.

Had a go at the online portion, and quickly found myself in beef with other players because I kept bumping into them  probably best I stop that.

Update out today fixing the licence and mission stuff. They're also making changes to the low rewards for the post game endurance races which is good.

Thank feck, after I realised I couldn't gold certain tests I just stopped caring and started bronzing and silvering and leaving them at that. Annoying in a way because now I've gotta go relearn stuff

Single player game down for over 8 hours because of the servers. Online games as a service are fantastic. Better be a decent update.

feck sake I was planning on playing when I got home.

Always online gaming is garbage for single player. I’ve practically given up with Madden for the same reason.

Jesus knee it was down this morning, but that's an awful long time. Expecting something big after this

This is why always online for a single player experience is a terrible idea. That coupled with the questionable in-game economy and micro-transaction means I'll probably never get this. I can't support any of that.

Servers are down which means I can’t play. It’s absolute bollocks.

If like me you don't have loads of time to sit and grind it out I find it's fairly enjoyable. I get a few license tests done in 1 sitting if I'm lucky so there is some longevity for me. If however, you've got hours on end or are much better at the game I can see the issue you'd have with it.

Once the cafe books and licenses are done there isn't too much to keep you coming back, especially if you don't like online.

The circuit experiences sound great, but I see them as more of an extension of licenses.

A severely limited lack of championships and standing starts means you'll lose the ability to try out a good chunk of the cars on offer.

because they want you to buy credits, same shite as those roulette tickets where you get the worst prize 99% of the time.
I reckon this will change pretty quickly when Sony and Polyphony realise people will not pay shit loads of cash for cars in a racing game.

GT has always been about the grind but people are not going to spend 20 hours grinding for one vehicle or spend $40 usd for a Ferrari 250 GTO. Gran Turismo Sport had it perfect where I think cars were roughly $2.99 per vehicle if you wanted to purchase them.

Also the lack of being unable to sell cars hurts them as well as there are simply cars I will never driver because I have zero interest in the,

The casual game like you will enjoy it for the reasons you listed.

The more serious gamers will surely just go for lap records again and again. There's that mad car game on pc that is massively popular because of it, always pops up on YouTube, can't remember it.

I'm a casual but I'll be battering my own lap times after I complete the main stuff.

Im with you on the selling cars thing. I will never drive so many of them and have this ever expanding collection of cars I have to scroll through.

I actually got a car once thats why I put 99%. :)

Literally every other ticket I've got 5k or something.

I'm not so sure, there will be people that will buy credits for sure. For every person that won't there will be someone that will.

Micro transactions are a very big part of gaming now sadly.

I hope there is some sort of compensation here. This is a joke. I paid fecking £70 for this

Yeah, I know it's not that big of a deal really. But j paid for something so I can play it. What happens to those players with disc? Can they not play it either?

Ridiculous all round. I feel like requesting a feckin refund because of this bullshit.

"Yeah you've bought it but feck you because of our servers haha"

It's completely unacceptable because it's unnecessary. There's zero need for an online requirement in single player games. How did we ever play career modes back on the PS1 and 2? It's pretty much the same fecking game! It all leads to inferior player experiences and increased friction, for zero benefit.

What's laughable is reviewers still neglected to punish these practices and gave it high scores. Everyone in the gaming media likes to moan about monetisation and DRM, but they still recommend games full of shit like that.

If they've slashed the earner events then they can feck off and die.

Never been a fan of racing games really, but my mate got this and said they have basically ruined it with micro transactions, followed by slashing the earner events.
