Graham Potter | turns down Ajax job

You, and many opposition fans on here loved to point out, thought we were shit. Pulisic over Rashford and all that.
I mean, I've got to admire your front to bring up that one after you were so adamant Wan Bissaka was better than Reece

Surely you'd expect some significant improvement in the second half of this season, especially with Fernandez and Badiashile in?

This team was easily the third best in the PL last season and the owner just spent over 500m euro on new players. I can't fathom the idea that the manager of that kind of squad should just get a free pass until next August and shouldn't be expected to start picking up results or at least playing better football.
This is the most bizarre post I’ve seen on this forum considering the club you support.

Fans were calling for ‘Arteta out’ and very critical of him. He needed a ‘free pass’ to implement his style and bring in his own squad and develop what he had.

Now look where you are.

If you think Potter can come in and change the entire style of football, adapt and develop players into his own system in 3 months then you should maybe try a different sport.

Potter needs time. Klopp also didn’t work magic overnight at Liverpool on the domestic front.

Just noticed they still have to play United, City, Liverpool, Arsenal & Spurs away in the 2nd half of the season

They haven’t looked too bad tonight and absolutely fecked with injuries. I feel bad for him as he will be criticised heavily but I think some factors are out of his hands.

if you keep giving a manger who takes a shit in his clothes more time, all you end up with is more shitty clothes.

Chelsea this season remind me of us taking the Everton manager and the Everton backroom staff and then having a nightmare season and having Everton above us in the table.

We even signed one of their players and he was terrible with stupid hair, just like Chelsea have with Cucurella.

He's not playing the same football he did with Brighton?

Like he got the top job and said feck it I'll decide to change what worked for me.

Think he's completely lost now

The only magic trick he's done is fooling the Chelsea owners he's somethign special

He's pulled a Moyes here and left a place of comfort to a place where he is out of depth. I kept telling people who wanted him at united this exact thing would happen. These days you do not bring managers who have won feck all into top tier clubs it will fail every single time. He was at a disadvantage the moment he set foot inside the club because the players don't respect him fecking hell like..

Think it's unfair to judge him so early. Injuries haven't helped, don't think Boehly's haphazard signing policy has helped either, there's no continuity to anything at Chelsea just now and it's hard to build anything like that.

Injuries aren't helping him and it's clear he hasn't been able to really train or develop players of his vision. Just dropped into The Bohley Experience.

Feel a little sorry for him, but this is what can happen when you jump from a nice midtable club to a giant club, let alone mid-season.

As for the club he is managing, to hell w Chelsea, hope they stay midtable.

Terrible appointment and a terrible fit at Chelsea. Was crystal clear when he signed as well.

They weren't terrible tonight tbf, especially considering the injuries. Not that I think he's good enough anyway.

Chelsea have made their Moyes appointment with this one and with poor decisions being made with recruitment could be a long way back for them

Moyes dismantled the setup that he was supposed to adjust himself to. Instead of adapting and leveling up, he dumped the title winning backroom staff. And David Gill leaving without developing Woodward or an actual replacement hurt United as well.

But overall, agree w your sentiments. Not having a preseason for a manager like Potter for a mismatch of players like Chelsea was insane, but you don't get these opportunities everyday so you have to take them and go from there. So far, he's been good then now their in a terrible spell.

Seem to have the same issue scoring goals as his Brighton team. Possibly isn't a coincidence

They were consistently underperforming xG tables at Brighton though so he was definitely doing something right as they were creating chances and just couldn’t convert. Problem is that they’re now not creating or converting at chelsea.

agreed. you only hire a manager who has already worked at a big club, culminating in premier league weekend at bernie’s matches in a few short decades, where points are awarded for whoever has the most lifelike corpse glued to the dugout.

Early days still but its not looking good for him. I think Brighton's continued success under a new manager and how poor Chelsea have been are reflecting poorly on him right now.

The Chelsea ownership have completely screwed themselves with their transfer window and change of manager. They've spunked a fortune on mediocrity, and brought in a manager that hasn't had any influence on the squad and doesn't have any experience managing a big club.

The damage of this could take a while to restore, because there are a number of players that will need replacing due to age. Koulibaly, Silva, Azpilicueta, Jorginho, Kante, and Aubameyang are all above 30.

Injuries aren't helping him by any means, look how young the team they ended the game with was but as much as managers should get time, there comes a point where it gets so bad there's no option but to make a change and they're only a few bad results from that.

19 points behind arsenal already and not even half way yet, damn!

Good performance tonight. He should be pleased with that. The injury list is horrific, something like 6-7 starters missing now. I totally believe in Potter.

I can't even bring myself to banter the twats as they'll just sack their boss, sign a few mushes and win a big pot again. Slickest bunch of cnuts alive these men.

Chelsea are in a transition as a club, new owner, new manager and new players coming in. Arteta's success (so far) at arsenal this season has shown that patience and sticking to a project for the long term (by football standards) does bear fruit. Potter needs time, sure he will be fine.

if you really believe in him, run head first into the wall at a train station platform.

Chelsea were better than I expected, but if they are going to have any chance of success they need to basically clean house with that forward line and get all new ones in.

Pulisic, Auba, Sterling, Havertz, Ziyech, Broja: I mean there's not a single name of those that I'd regard as dangerous if driving at our defense. Sterling will stay because he's the new signing, but there's a reason City didn't mind binning him off even though he scored for fun there.
