Graham Potter appointed Chelsea manager

Will be an excellent option in a few years but feel the United job may be a step too soon for him at this stage.

Brighton are brilliant to watch and Potter definitely extracts a much greater level of performance from the team than the sum of its parts. He’s also shown an adaptability in terms of system and personnel as well as a clearly defined style.

United would be a different level of pressure and expectation though.

I enjoy watching Brighton play. Unsure if this role would be a little too early for him though.

I think this is the case, very talented manager but probably needs that interim step before managing a club like United. He's very committed to, spent a long time at Ostersund, and according to rumours told Tottenham he wasn't interested this summer. I think he's a bit of a builder in a Klopp like manner, and while Swansea was only one season he did fantastic and left due to the unreasonable restrictions placed on him by the board. The board of course deny this but they constantly broke their word and undermined him, I was very sad to see him go.

Feels a bit like a young Klopp, feel we'd regret not getting him if we have the chance. Tactically he's very astute.

I hate this kind of post, but I really do think if he had a more exotic name he'd be in with a real shout.

Good manager and I'd be quite happy if he was appointed.

Everytime I have seen them play they were really organized team who knew their pressing and passing despite their lack of quality in certain positions so I think with a better team he could be very good and successful as he seems really promising. My bet is he will go Pochettino way after a great established season like this one with a below averags diet taking them into top10 he will be poached by someone like Spurs, Everton or Arsenal if they wake up and inevitably do well there but perhaps may lack some top top quality players to win eventually some trophies.

But I think he's worth the gamble even now. The only question is how he's gonna manage the stars in the team but these lads have great mentality, except few, they will be willing to work hard and have the talent to match it at the top level too, and once they see the proper system implemented by him is working and bringing the fruit I am sure everyone will buy into it.

If board needs a manager who can make the team punch way above their talent at disposal without overspending every year. Potter will be great. (That's why I think he will end up at Spurs or Arsenal where even the timing can't be better, after this season, where they fail to meet expectations again, even Newcastle could be an option now though.) If we give him the money to bring in a defensive midfielder and a cheap cover for a CB, we will be a bomb again instantly. However unfortunately I can't see our stupid board to trust someone with such low profile, even though Fletcher was hired for that job wasn't he? and seemed to understand the game very well so we may be in for a pleasant surprise.

On a general note, anyone of Potter, Rodgers, Ten Haag, Pochettino would be great appointment, question is which one of them we can get first. And paying some of them out of their contracts while paying Ole to leave will be painful. Not as painful as to wait for him to finish the season with 0 success and dropping morale of the team to the lowest lows.

Agreed and Agreed.

I suppose the only concern would be the lack of 'Gravitas' in dealing with our bigger personalities.

Personally I think he'd get on fine and with a bit of patience would have this team challenging at the top.

Another game vs a top side (away no less) another positive, front foot performance.

Said it in the other thread but no "smaller" club consistently impresses me more vs big teams then Brighton.

Same here. They aren't consistent enough but they put in some top class performances. They're the best team outside of the traditional top 6.

Wonder who they’ll get to replace him in the summer. Someone will take the chance on him.

Who will though ? Maybe Everton if they turn things around or Leicester if Rodgers get sacked ?

Leicester would be a good move for him. Feels like it’s gone stale for Rodgers there and Potter in would be a good move for both parties.

Potter or Ten Hag, has been the case for me since Ole got sacked.

I agree. Not consistent, but I really think it is among the worst squads in the PL.

Tonight was a very good performance with a back three of Cucurella, Burn and Veltman. That is impressive!

Yeah and the goal that they conceded was from a corner where Lukaku tore Mupay's face off.

He is making Brighton playing like this.
Read that again.

Even getting him will not be a risk IMO. His team lacks stars but he is making the whole team like a very organized group they always look knowing exactly what they are doing, very very few miss passes or hoofing balls. It’s a matter of time and he will be on the next level surely.

Seems like the kind of progressive candidate we won't go near, we will probably appoint Gareth Southgate instead.

I like him, but it is one thing managing Brighton and another thing managing Machester United. He needs to go to a mid table team and try win a trophy with them before he gets the chance to be mentioned as the manager of the biggest club in the country.

I don't watch Brighton an all lot -

I remember when Rodgers had a bit of hype at Swansea,

What makes this guy different to Rodgers at Swansea?

I think this will be very controversial but I don’t think Potter is good enough for a top club. Are Brighton really punching that much above their weight ?

They are 7 points behind David Moyes and West Ham. Behind Wolves, Leicester and 1 point above Crystal Palace/Aston Villa.

He’s doing a brilliant job but not sure that he has a winning formula which nobody else has. For me, what Ten Haag is doing is special. He is regularly beating teams that they aren’t suppose to beat and also rarely loosing. I would really like to see Potter given money though and he certainly deserves it but I don’t think he would win things.

As much as I liked Hughton and thought that he did a very job at the club, I perfectly understood at the time why they sacked him given the combination of rapidly declining results plus negative, cautious football. I was delighted that Potter came in, got his break in the Premier League, and has done well.

I thought that even his first season represented clear progress, as finishing 15th with 41 points and playing more attractive football and giving more opportunities to younger players definitely beats finishing 17th with 36 points and playing more negative football.

There's no point bringing him to United. Our spoiled superstar squad would get him sacked in 6 weeks. They'd not listen to anything he said or do what he told them to do.

Until we have a massive cull of every player with an attitude problem, there's no point.

He is so good, dominates most games. IIRC his team dominated Liverpool at Anfield and now Chelsea at SB.

Hopefully he is considered for ManUtd role.

Yea he’s a very good manager but can he win top honours and go toe to toe with the elite? I guess no one can know until he’s given a chance but I don’t feel like we can make another wrong managerial decision with our recruitment.

we have to get the next one right

He is very good, but i feel like top PL teams are becoming allergic to british managers, i think they would rather go for Mario Ramirez (random spanish name) who has done well at Sevilla than going for Potter who is PL proven.

The fact that Lampard was a failure at Chelsea, Moyes at United, Rodgers at Liverpool/Leicester and top PL teams are winning stuff only under continental managers doesn't help either.
This is why i don't see Gerrard managing Liverpool anytime soon, no matter how good he does in Aston Villa, Liverpool would rather go for a continental manager even if he isn't PL proven.

Best chance for Potter to get a big job is to manage England NT once SouthGate leaves.

Go balls, legs, foot, torso, arms, head deep in on this guy please Mr Moshiri.

He's turned Brighton into the new Leicester on probably a fraction of the money. Ironically that's where I think he'll end up.

If we can't get ten Hag, then go get him.
This, he has no right to be doing what he's doing. Same for Ten Hag on fairness. Only reason I prefer Ten Hag is how he's so focused on winning. Lord knows we need to change the mentality of the organisation.

Going to Everton would be a downgrade at the moment. I reckon he might wait and see if United come in for him in the summer.

I agree, I doubt he'd come to us because of how shite we are at every level of the club but I'd try absolutely everything we could, give him an offer to dwell on at least.
