Graham Potter appointed Chelsea manager

*checks poster location*…ah, Sussex.

Despite the banter I do have some level of sympathy for Brighton and agree it’s not a given that he takes the job. I also think Brighton will appoint a top replacement if he goes, they’re sickeningly well run these days. I much preferred the Withdean days.
Very true - however we moved down after 30 odd years up North to enjoy the sunny sussex weather (and not regretting it either) - 100% still a red ;)

Devastating for Brighton that. Chelsea will look amazing if they give him time.

I reckon Boehly will be selling a long term project to Potter, & Potter holds all the aces. I would not be surprised if Boehly offers him a 5 year contract or the like to convince him to come. These long contracts seem Boehly's style.

I think he fully deserves his chance to join one of the top clubs but I’m not sure Chelsea are necessarily the best choice.

No manager lasts more than 2 years there and the chances of dethroning City in that period seem very low. They’re very unlikely to win the CL and winning the FA cup at a top 6 club doesn’t really do much for you in terms of reputation. It’s an expectation really.

Two years from now he’ll leave Chelsea with no major titles and people questioning whether he will ever get the big job offer again. Maybe that’s me being too negative but I can see it happening.

Maybe the new owner isn’t planning to use the same short term model as Abramovic but he’s certainly pulled the trigger early into his tenure here.

I’m not sure what City are doing if Pep leaves this summer, but if I was Potter I’d be looking at that job as the one to get. His style of football would suit their technically brilliant squad. Presuming of course that City would consider someone with his lack of CL experience, which to be fair they might not.

Definitely think Chelsea is a bad move for him. It’ll take him real time to coach the team the way he wants and there will be lots of players he doesn’t fancy, so the recruitment will take time. Chelsea won’t give him any time. He deserves a top club but I’d say out of all the top 6, Chelsea are the ones in which he suits the least.

Boehly and Clearlake are fine with giving him time. He would be THEIR choice. This is important in sports.

My gut feeling is Boehly is now regretting giving in to the people that told him to give Tuchel a chance. Tuchel might even have been the reason Micheal Edwards told us he had to “take a break” from football before taking a new DoF job…. AFTER he had been consulting on our entire setup.

The Dodgers have only had one manager that was hired by Boehlys group since they bought that team, and they have had some years with people calling for the managers head.

Thry do not have a quick trigger Reputation. But that’s when it comes to things THEY build.

And we don’t know exactly how toxic Tuchel was. He had a reputation of his own.

It's quite a risky move for him. No pre-season, a huge jump and Chelsea have quite an itchy trigger finger. Hope he fails miserably but Potter is a good manager if they give him time, which they won't.

Yea i dont know if chelsea is a long term project. Maybe the new owners are different. Having said that Tuchel was on thin ice. Got out of jail a couple of times this season already, the sending off and west ham.

Being at Chelsea is the perfect way to take a break from football.

No such thing as a "long term project" at the top clubs anymore. The only exeptions have been Klopp and Peppy. You either deliver results or get sacked.

We gave Ole 3 years without him achieving feck all. Louis Van Gaal and Mourinho, too for that matter and we only sacked Moyes after an absolutely disastrous season. Now obviously not every club is Man United, but still - Chelsea are a particularly hasty club when it comes to sacking manageres.

Tier 1:

Since Boehly also fired both of Tuchel's assistant coaches, Potter will be able to bring in his two assistant coaches. Kyle Macaulay looks likely to become Chelsea's head of recruitment.

I'm expecting Roberto Sanchez and Trossard to follow them next season, and probably Caicedo too.

It’s a gamble but he’s earned his shot. Has all the makings of a top coach and similar to when it was ETH vs Poch even if Pochetino looks the safer choice on paper I don’t think he is the right choice.

Tuchel is far more proven, especially at that level, but while an obvious question I don't think it matters that much given the context. There aren't many managers available to Chelsea at this point in time who are better than Tuchel, and the timing of the sacking and the murmurings behind the scenes point to problems between Tuchel and Chelsea beyond his capabilities as a football coach.
This is almost for sure. From every signal spread out, Tuchel and the new owner are simply not get along well with each other.

I do think he's a class manager, but he definitely has to take this opportunity whilst his stock is good. A downturn in Brighton's form (which isn't out of the realms of possibility) might make him a less desirable option for a step up later down the road.

Would have loved him for the England job. :(

I can only think of Luis Enrique although would mean waiting until the end of the year. Zidane and Poch are the other two high profile candidates.

Potter, by comparison, is very highly rated but lacks the experience and pedigree of the others.

Very unlike Chelsea to go down that route.

Gutting tbh. I'm at the Amex to watch Brighton next month, wonder who the manager will be.

Brendan managing to fall on his feet if he gets that gig.

Really feel for Brighton here. They've been shafted. Can see their season really falling apart.

Hopefully they're as astute with their next appointment as they are in the transfer market. Perhaps they wouldn't have been as open to letting him go had they not got a replacement in mind lined up.

The fact is you cannot really keep a coach when they want to go and think it will work out. You can manage one footballer, how do you manage the guy responsible for motivating every other member of staff? It's an impossible situation for a club so that's why Brighton would be facilitating the deal.

If he's 16 million, that's quite sizeable for a manager isn't it? They're never as valuable as players, which is strange but I guess they always protect their position should they wish to move on.

My style of football would suit that city squad too, “De Bruyne, feed it to Erling. Everyone else, try and keep the ball and not be shite”

I thought not metioning us was already implied as everyone already know they stuck to managers far too long when things were not working out in particular Ole but we are owned by the Glazers so there is no surprise we are the only ones who stand out.

But the other top 5 of the top 6 clubs are all taken

Pep long term
Klopp long term
Ten Hag just started
Conte will probably get extension
Arteta looking strong right now

when a top 6 Club comes calling, it’s an opportunity you can’t miss, wether it’s the right fit doesn’t really matter, is Potter going to say hmmm not for me guys, no thanks…..of course not

The Potter won't succeed at Chelsea due to the lack of structure at Chelsea compared to Brighton need to realize we hired Ten Hag, from a club with one of the best structures in the world, to our shitshow and his ability as a coach does not seem affected. Not saying it wouldn't be a more ideal setup, but I am guessing they are also working on hiring people to run the club properly if they just invested 280 mil on players and are going to have to pay 15 mil to sack Tuchel.

They should just replace Tuchel with the guy PSG replaced him with :D

Arsenal would have been a perfect destination for Potter. Imagine the backing Potter got instead of an average manager like Arteta. Arsenal would have been in a much better place.

Conte could feck off at the drop of a hat. Let’s not pretend he’s going to get comfy.
