Graeme Sourness | Retires from “punditry”

He also said that Mount and Maddison have the potential to be world class, as long as they work hard and learn from their coaches.

Just like he says about Pogba.

I don't necessarily agree with Souness but his opinions about discipline, hardwork and physicality are not exactly unreasonable.

Does he work for free?

Every Sunday he's on Sky rambling when he should be doing it in the corner of an old people's home.

Apart from his constant vendetta against Pogba, which to be fair a lot was reasonable just too much of it, I don’t find Souness that bad. A lot of what he says I tend to agree with.

He’s a lot better than anyone the bbc have, at least he says what’s on his mind, not like Danny Murphy or Alan Shearer. Can’t stand listening to those two. Jenas is a lot worse on BT as well.

I disagree, his criticism of Pogba may have started out as constructive but it’s clearly gone beyond that now, to the point it’s become an obsession. I have a feeling that sky encourage it, but given what Pogba’s achieved in his career so far, Souness focuses way too much on the negative.

He was a savage as a player. When he talks it reminds me of how much I’d like a Souness on our team/in the dressing room. That kind of drive and leadership is hard to find these days.

He's an old dinosaur who needs to be moved on, he adds nothing to punditry. Whilst he was a good player doesn't make him a good pundit.

Juve also wanted to sell Dybala  Problem with his character too?

Well of course not. It's only Kean and Pogba who are the troublemakers. Wonder if there is a link...
What a ridiculous world we live in when you can't criticise someone without being labelled a racist.

Everyone in Europe was asking why Juventus happily sold a 19 year old with huge potential for £25m without any buyback clause.

There's two possibilities I would suggest.. They don't think he's that good, or they have concerns about something else. Could be his personality, injuries, who knows? But hardly unreasonable to suggest there's something about him they're not happy with. Jose also made the same point.

Or he could have meant they play for Everton and Man United, two of his clubs biggest ever rivals.

Nice of you to presume racism though...

If we sold a highly rated teenager, there would be people speculating the reason for it too.

Its not a case of the player forcing a move to a bigger club.. and its not crazy money either.

You either wonder if he isnt good enough or if he was unprofessional.. its far from being unusual.

With juve, it could just be them needing the money to balance the books..

These pundits arent very well informed.. there isnt much point listening to them.. but its no more stupid than the other stuff they spew all the time.

Outrage over this is unnecessary

Or because they needed the money for FFP. There has been nothing about him having a bad attitude, absolutely nothing yet Souness is suddenly questioning it without any evidence.

You’re missing the point, probably intentionally. It’s not that he’s criticising Kean or questioning why Juve sold him, why would the first assumption he makes be that it’s because he has a bad attitude, rather than the fact that they just didn’t see him as indispensable?
It’s a harmful assumption based on a played out stereotype, of course people are going to call him out.

Reasons he could have been sold:
-Didnt fit new managers system or plans
-Juve Wanted to get rid for money reasons / squad numbers
-Player wanted away after the actual reported racism he suffered.

Nope, first insinuation is that hes got off the field issues which would ring alarm bells. Yep.

Nobody knows if they got a buyback, and since Jose doesnt know, assumes there isnt one which means theres defo an issue. Great.

You do realise Souness was the manager who signed the first black player to play for Rangers? But now people are insinuating he is some kind of racist. Not a surprise on this place, but still out of order. I had similar thoughts that perhaps there is something to do with his personality/ attitude that has led them to selling him, and the other instinct I had was that he didn't want to continue playing it Italy due to the racist abuse he had received. Some people really need to get a grip. He's actually complimenting his ability by not really making it comprehendible that they would let him go due to a lack of ability. Mourinho actually said as well that it was alarming that they would let him go an it made him think there must be other issues. Is Jose a racist as well?

The hysteria on here an wild assumptions when these pundits say things has gotten out of hand. Everybody accuses Neville of hating foreign players/ being some sort of closet racist, and now people are making snide undertones towards Souness.

Wasn’t he also in the last year of his contract? And didn’t Juve need to sell to balance the books given that they have Dybala, Ronaldo, Higuain and Manzdukic? There were so many reasons to sell.

Grow up.
Ah, the old "I have a black friend" defence.

Pathetic mate.

So tell me simply. Based on that video do you think Greame Souness is racist?

No, but there’s a decent amount of evidence based on his comments in the past, along with the comments in the video above, to suggest that he has either Racist views or negative stereotypes around black players, particularly their attitudes.

Based on just that one video? No.

Based on that video, his intense dislike of Pogba, and that quote about Maddison? I'm sure there's something there.

Didn’t Kean run down his contract and could have signed a pre contract in January for free?

Didn’t Ron Atkinson also sign a number of black players? Sorry but that’s a terrible defence, that’s akin to saying I’m not racist, some of my friends are black.

Well when he was manager of Blackburn the one player who's attitude he was always questioning until he finally got him out of the club was a certain Mr. David Dunn.

Likewise at Newcastle it was Craig Bellamy.

I guess we just ignore this? Or does he hate and have negative stereotypes about everybody?

These are two players he has actually worked with and has dealt with daily. Their attitudes will be known by him. He makes assumptions on professionals he hasn’t worked with and decides they have poor attitudes generally based off nothing. There’s a massive difference between the two scenarios.

So now Souness is the same as Ron Atkinson? Jesus.

This place.

He's also criticised white players many times. Plus his Pogba criticisms are repeated on here en masse, suggesting a lot of them are quite valid.

It's a massive leap of logic to be able to claim with any certainty that he's a racist because there's some footage of him criticising some black players.

These types of accusations should be based on solid evidence, which is not being presented.

Why are you putting words in my mouth? You’ve been so dramatic and defensive in this thread, why does the very mention of racism rile people up so much on this forum? People like you are part of the problem.

Because, for certain people these days, being called racist is actually worse than racism.

"People like me are part of the problem?"

Jesus, I was accused of being a family member of Rashford yesterday, now I'm apart of the racism problem.

I think it's a disgrace that people go around calling others racist with no foundation.

He was slagging off Firmino the other week. Does he hate all Latin Americans too?

Same as his accusations towards Kean too.

Well again, if he's asking why Juve are letting a highly rated young talent go for so cheap in a market where average players are going for a lot more, then it's a question I'd certainly be asking and wondering about attitude or injury.

If Greenwood was sold tomorrow for £10m, we wouldn't question it?

I genuinely don’t think you have a clue how racism works given your defences in this thread and you don’t seem particularly interested in having a civil discussion so there’s no point going back and forth.

Evidence like what? Him saying the n word? You do know it's possible to be racist without actually using racist language?

Because, for certain people these days, being called racist is actually worse than racism.
Again, absolute nonsense. Presuming people are racist with absolute zero foundation is out of order. Mourinho questioned Pogba's attitude every week and worked with him closely. Is he racist?

The most fierce criticism I've seen of Pogba came from Roy Keane during the Manchester derby. Is he racist as well?

Neither do you quite frankly, about any time any sort of criticism towards a black player pops up. But I guess I don't know how racism works either.
