Television Gomorra (TV series)

Just finished the first season. I spread the last 3 episodes out cos I didn't want it to end.

fecking incredible show. This and Rectify have been the best TV shows this year

Well, that's me caught up. I won't say anything because I don't want to spoil it, but I'm very very happy.

A brilliant opener.

It's a shame that the fact it is subtitled means that too few people will watch for it to get the recognition it deserves. I can't think of anything better from the last few years and it holds up to repeat viewing which is good because I'm re-watching the first series just to refresh my memory after quite a lengthy wait for it's return.

Most parts of the 2nd episode of the 2nd season were filmed in Cologne
It was funny watching Genny drinking his coffee in a thrift shop like Backwerk . I don't think any Italian could drink their coffee.

I was looking at the daybreak scene when Genny and Don Pietro woke up in the cold and thinking "is that the Dom Cathedral in the background?"

I was there just over a week ago.

If you haven't already, watch Romanzo Criminale, Corleone and 1992. Italy has produced some fantastic crime dramas in recent years.

I love Inspector Montalbano as well, but it's more like Columbo than Goodfellas

Cheers. I have watched Romanzo Criminale, the film and the series, and thoroughly enjoyed both. Will see if I can acquire the others from somewhere.

yeah, that was a great shot

How is this show not more popular? It's brilliant. I wish I spoke Italian, my girlfriend does and she says it's a lot better if you understand the slang and the Italian sayings.

I guess it's difficult for shows that are not in english to gain traction.

True, you would hope that with the recent success of Narcos more people will now be willing to take the leap to fully subtitled offerings.

If you're in the UK, you can still get 1992 from Sky Arts on demand.

Thanks, in the spirit of reciprocation you may like 'Braquo' a French crime drama. It doesn't reach the heights of Gomorra (IMO) but the first two series are pretty good before it gets increasingly silly. It airs on FX in the UK I think and series 4 should be out some time this year.

Fortunately I managed to track down torrents for both 1992 and Corleone and will give them a go over the next few days.

That scenery is amazing.

Yep, there's been a bunch of good shows from France, Denmark, Norway and Sweden. If it's good, it's good. Read the bloody subtitles.

I'm a big fan of Braquo. I made a thread a couple of years ago and was talking to myself

Just waiting for the new series.

Just finished the third episode, I honestly think this is my favourite show on TV - even more than Game of Thrones. I don't think I've watched an episode of Gomorrah and thought it was pure filler, something always happens and literally no character (except maybe 1) seems to safe

Whoa, something had to give but I didn't anticipate that outcome.

Noooo!!! I feckin loved Conte, be a shame to see him go but I suppose it clears the way for Don Pietro to return and the old man is probably my other favourite character.

Edit# It's just brilliant.

"We gave a lantern to blind people"

What is really annoying is that good quality rips with english hardcoded subs are so hard to come by.

Ep. 5-6 out btw, haven't found any with english subs yet.

"Sno" is the team that I have found this series ripped/released by with hardcoded subtitles. Enter that in to a google search along with the episode details "gomorrah s02e0#" and you should be able to track them down.
*Notice the "h" in Gomorrah which is added to the English language release for some reason.

If you need more help just PM me.

Thanks mate, acquired for testing purposes now.

I find that the asskickers often are a bit on the slow side these days. Also they remove a lot of stuff due to complaints etc. Movies are often nowhere to be found amongst the asskickers.

I find that the 1337 ones are better like that, they never remove anything due to complaints.

It just gets better and better every week.

It's looking like it's going to be Genny vs Don Pietro vs Ciro. I'm thinking The Good, The Bad and The Ugly by the end.

Episode 7 and 8 out now. Haven't found the ones with english subs yet but they will probably be possible to acquire in a few hours.

They won't air on English TV until tonight so it will probably be tomorrow morning before any subbed torrents appear. I think the Italians get it a day early the lucky devils.

On a more general note:
Did anyone clock on to Conte's homosexual tendencies before the recent storyline? Even then, up until the point they ridicule the singer at the party, I just thought he liked ugly ladies. I was thinking to myself "what good is it being a Don if you get saddled with some ropey missus, no wonder you are keeping it quiet Conte lad". I genuinely thought he was keeping it hush just out of caution for her safety or something.

I then had that moment of realization that made me feel a little stupid but couldn't think of anything that had eluded to it being a dude or Conte being gay, maybe I missed something along the way.

Just started watching this a week ago and am almost up to speed. Its a remarkable depiction of gangster life, so much realism and very little bullshit.

No I just thought that he denied himself every "vice" in life, be it cigarettes, narcotics, sex or alcohol. He led his life nearly like a monk. I remember in season 1 he told the young guy that was his driver (which he killed) that he tried to quit and deny himself atleast one thing he enjoyed each year, to strengthen his will. this was when the driver asked him about the e-cigarette, so I thought it was just the same for the sex.

Sucks that he is dead though, he was by far the coolest guy in the show and probably the only person in the world that can make smoking that silly e-cigarette look cool and stylish.

Yeah the self-denial was the only thing that came to mind for me. Glad I wasn't the only one surprised by the revelation.

He was an incredible character, effortlessly cool and menacing at the same time.

Was a relatively quiet couple of episodes, with the scene being set for the inevitable bloodbath in the final episodes. I liked Prince. You get attached to a character, with the storyline hinting that they're gonna be a major player, then they're wiped out. It's definitely coming down to a Mexican standoff between Genny, Don Pietro and Ciro.

I hear there's a 3rd series in the pipeline, so it may not be the end of any of them.

They did kind of go out of their way to make the viewer like Prince in the last 4-5 episodes. I should know better than to get attached to anyone in this show by now.

A few strings have been left unpulled so I imagine they are going to play a part in the chaos that is about to hit. Scianel's daughter in-law shagging around while her son is in prison etc.

I read a good article last week that documents some of the recent history of Scampia, it seems to have a few similarities to the show, if anyone is interested in the realities of the subject. http://www.vanityfair.com/culture/2012/05/naples-mob-paolo-di-lauro-italy

This show seems to make a point out of killing all the clever and likeable guys, and letting shitheads like Trek stay alive. His haircut and shit 70's glasses annoy me to no end.

Sometimes I feel like southern Italy is not part of the western world. It's just so different there.

In many ways it isn't. A former colleague of mine had studied in Palermo. And even the university as an educational institution was corrupt since people with the right connections were passing exams just like that, while she had to learn to get her diploma.

On the last episode: I really liked Rosario as Ciro's sidekick and it sort of felt not right that he was dead. Didn't have any problems with the death of Prince, since he came across as mixture of a cocky bastard and an honest, sensitive guy. People like that are always doomed to death.

Where was it actually implied that Conte was gay?

In general I thought that the script could have been better for the last two episodes. I mean Prince buying a puma was just ridiculous. Also the bond within the allianza seems to be very loose. In addition to that even De Amore's acting seemed to be off-key.

But I guess we'll see the end of Don Pietro at the end of the season, which should improve the series.
