Golf 2017

Just tuned in, been out and about all weekend, what's gone on? Anything interesting?

Spieth almost self destructed with a bad putting early on and then a horrendous drive. Recovered to make a bogey from that and then went birdie-eagle-birdie to take command.

Nice! He's quite a player.

Stops mid swing, laughs at the distraction, steps back up and hits a great chip

That bogey birdie eagle stretch is up there with the best few holes of golf I've seen. Even the bogie was incredible considering the tee shot.

And in the context of his blow-up at the Masters, it makes it even more special.

I like Kuchar but I have my doubts on whether he can finish, and to be fair to him today he didn't do a lot wrong. Arguably played better than Spieth overall but Spieth had a few seriously lucky breaks.

Same here. Kuchar just seems like a really nice guy.

Might seem like a "well duh" thought considering his consistency, but I think Kuchar will make a run at the PGA next month.
It would be nice if he won that. No major wins in his career right?

I was up there on Friday and it's a genuinely brilliant experience. The rain was a lifesaver as everybody pissed off home and we were able to properly watch Spieth for the best part of the back nine.

Television doesn't do justice just how intelligent a golfer this lad is. Drive, knock, chip, putt. He makes 500 yard par fours look (almost) easy.

I'm pleased he won today. Great talent and balls of steel.

Crazy performance from Spieth in that back nine, that bogey on the 13th was such a turning point. He took the time that was allowed to him to really think about what he could do, managed to steal a bogey when most people were thinking this hole will be the one too look back on and say "he blew up here" but was the exact opposite. Must have taken great confidence from that.

I should have cashed on Kuchar when I had the chance!

The minute Spieth's ball landed on that hill, I reckon many, many £'s were placed on Kuchar! His odds tumbled on the assumption Spieth would drop 2, maybe 3 shots. Then as soon as he putted for 'only' a bogie, it was back to normal!

Yep, I think as it was on that mound I had the option to cash out £140 off of a £5 bet on Kuchar. As it was only giver I was happy to let it run because I was sure he was going to be putting down a double or worse.

Credit to Spieth, he has crumbled before but learnt from it.

Spieth's odds went from 1.65 to 4.0 after that shot. I almost cashed out because he looked absolutely fecked.

Fair play to Spieth but I don't think it's a coincidence that he suddenly started playing well again after he had half an hour to regroup.

He certainly had half hour to figure out how the hell he was going save this hole. Not sure I'd class that as regrouping, he was under a bit of pressure there. Poor Kuch on other hand..

It definitely changed the momentum. He went from from rabbit in the headlights to fighting for his life.

Who's everyone on this week then? Gotta be Rory at Quail Hollow for me and coming into some form too. There are so many long par fours it suits his game perfectly.

Also put some on Koepka at 28s.

As a Belgian, I obviously hope for Pieters. Good form last weekend and the course should suit him well. With a 4th place at his first Masters earlier this year he's shown he can compete at the majors. Winning would be amazing but being in contention on the final day should be possible. Rory's record here though, coupled with his excellent form with the driver last weekend, means he can't be ignored. He's due another big win. I wouldn't mind Fowler either.

That's a good bet with him having a major under his belt already this year and most bookies paying top 10 on e/w bets

I'm backing Rory and Hoffman. Rory likes this course! + the new caddy and everything, I think it will be quite fitting for him to win another major now.

Hoffman has had some good finishes this year, 45/1 couldn't say no! Koepka is a great bet too

Rahm, Fowler and McIlroy in the marquee group all playing some good stuff. Nicely tied at -2 after 10 holes. Rory's driver is ridiculous again, I also really like his putting compared to recent years. Any of these three would be a great winner for me, but I'd probably be most pleased for Fowler. Not quite Sergio levels pleased, but still.

And then Rory makes a total mess of 14th, in the water, misses a short bogey putt and he's all the way back to +1. This after dropping a shot on the previous hole. His round is falling apart.
