Music Glastonbury 2024

Anyone watched Heilung? First I've heard of them.

From Wiki: Heilung is an experimental folk music band made up of members from Denmark, Norway, and Germany. Their music is based on texts and runic inscriptions from Germanic peoples of the Iron Age, and Viking Age. Heilung describe their music as "amplified history from early medieval northern Europe"

It's brilliant, watch it.
Yeah, someone put some in the What are you listening to thread a while back. I imagine it’d be pretty cool live, certainly the videos on YouTube are pretty cool.

Yeah, I though the whole vibe in terms of stage presence of her set was quite poor. To bothered about dancing and trying to make a music video-esque show for the people on TV.

I was flicking back and forth between her and the Idles and the difference was so jarring. One act was actually performing live music, the other was trying to film an MTV video on stage. The whole concept of mediocre pop music in stadiums winds me up but her show was one of the flattest, least involving I’ve seen.

Yeah it wasn't great, she mimed every other song too I think, probably because she was more focused on dancing than singing and engaging with the crowd

I’m not in the least bit interested in her other than the fact she’s lovely to look at but do you not think you’re just not her audience?

I’ve been to Glastonbury a feck load of times and can promise you that trying to judge whether a live performance is good from watching it on the BBC is a fools task. The number of performances that have blown me away at the time and I’ve watched back when I’ve got home and been surprised that they are flat, sound levels off and just not captured any of the live energy.

It really is pointless judging which is the best live performance and seems a bit ironic given that she’s being accused of targeting her set for TV rather than live?

Did anyone expect anything else? She’s not exactly revered as a great musician is she. She’s just one of those ones that cracked the pop market for a bit.

I’m a big fan of her and her music and just thought it was incredibly flat for a headline performance. Not seen her live before though.

I’m definitely not her audience. I’m not really Idles audience either. Genuinely never heard of them before last night and I’m not going to seek them out and listen to them on the basis of what I heard. It was just really jarring to see the difference between a band who have obviously honed their craft performing on stage and know how to engage with a live audience vs the manicured superficiality of Dua Lipa’s “performance”. Maybe that difference was less jarring to people who attended the shows but I doubt it.

For the record, I was flicking back and forth in case the beeb showed the Fontaines. They didn’t.

I wouldn’t call myself a big Dua fan but I’m at Glastonbury and watched her last night and thought she was really good. Everyone I watched it with felt the same. Obviously interesting to hear it seemed flat on the telly. I’ll have to watch it back to see a comparison but it didn’t feel like that at all in the field.

Last Dinner Party on, already smashing it as per. Shame they have the boring UK drummer back though, the one they used in the Americas tour was fantastic.

The sound on the TV is never great from the BBC, never has any punch and very little of the crowd. But at least they have the band here fairly well balanced though.

Dua lipa was better than I expected but it was definitely a sterile performance (on the TV anyway) for a.non-fan.

Bloc party time :)

Got Keane on on iplayer, they are absolutely brilliant

Will watch Avril Lavigne tomorrow

Being stuck behind someone on someone's shoulders or a massive flag would p me right off

Kasabian on Woodsies stage at 6 according to BBC earlier

Those flags are super high as a rule. The shoulder's thing has never once bothered me at any gig/festival though as it's not that common.

Just catching up with Idles on iPlayer. Poor guy doing the titles thinks the second part of Colossus is Gift Horse.

Really looking forward to the trifecta of Nothing but thieves, Avril Lavigne and Two Door Cinema Club tomorrow. Shame some of it is when the England game is.
Enjoyed Last Dinner Party and Black Pumas this afternoon. Struggling a little bit to get excited for tonight though. Nothing really interesting. Any recommendations?

I like Little Simz but she’s one of those rappers where her production is so good you can’t help but wonder if she’d be nearly as big on different beats. The bars are fine, but the beats (largely by Inflo) are doing so much work to put her on this stage it just highlights how important that is for some rappers.

I find her a bit too one tone one pace.

Orbital brown album is probably my favourite of theirs.
