Music Glastonbury 2024

I went to the last 2 Glasto’s and for me they are my all time best festival experiences. 8 times I’ve gone but it’s improved the more I go honestly.

The two post covid ones Elton and Paul McCartney’s final festival gigs were impossible to top this year so they went with the safe identity politics pleasing year.

Makes sense really as they booked all male, white headliners last time.

It’s nice to see PJ Harvey and LCD Soundsystem on the main stage adding that bit of cool Blondie did last year. I like bands with a bit of attitude on the mainstage.

Alvvays I would definitely be going to see this year that band have some absolute bangers recently. A lot of good stuff from America on the smaller stages.

Legitimately post-covid I think festivals will have a big problem with headliners. Bands/solo artists are seeing they can make as much by themselves and it's going to dilute future super festival lineups.
Good luck though trying to get a prime time slot on BBC television for 3 hours as any band in the world without Glastonbury.

This festival offers alongside Coachella in the States the absolute best publicity for a live act you can imagine on the planet.

Faithless, a previous headliner of multiple stages, just getting an and spot. I know Maxi has died but I reckon they could have headlined the park.

I listened to Bonobo for a fair few years and it worked well for a chill out setting but can't imagine going for a live concert that too in a festival. One thing you don't want when listening to someone like that is surrounded by a bunch of brain-dead knobheads.
I’ve seen Bonobo live a number of times and can confirm how boring it is.

Still can't get over that Idles/Fontaines clash tomorrow night.

Who are we all watching on iPlayer this weekend then?

Nowt. Time to ignore this thread and avoid 6 Music until they've given up on playing the terribly performed live recordings they feel obliged to pretend were good.

Fontaines and the national are top of my list, but i need to take a proper look at the lineups. Love Glasto weekend on the beeb.

I live about 5 miles from the site, the amount of choppers heading towards Pilton seems way higher than usual.

What gives, celebs? Too good for the shuttle bus?

Having said this, went to see Michael Kiwanuka this evening. If you're watching the TV coverage, he's worth your time.

Squid are class. So different.

I'd be gutted if I was there as they're two of the four bands I've been listening to most this past ten months.
iPlayer was a bit hit and miss last year from what I remember. They don't show as much as they used to.

Mary Wallopers smashing it on The Park. I'll be switching over to Confidence Man in ten minutes though!

Feels like such a poor selection this year. Very 'poppy'

I just looked through and the ones I will/might watch are

Dua Lipa (obviously)
LCD Soundsystem
James
Justice
TDCC
Bloc Party
Seasick Steve
Jamie XX
Ocean Colour Scene

James were brilliant recently. This overall is the worst lineup I can remember though.

Confidence Man were unreal, an all-timer

Slim pickings this year.

Jungle always put on a great show, looking forward to them the most. Will also try watch LCD soundsystem, Idles, Justice, Bombay Bicycle Club, Sleaford Mods and Paul Heaton.

Is there a fenced off section in front of the pyramid stage for some kind of vip section? Or is it just crowd control.

Haven’t caught much but gonna tune in for LCD Soundsystem.

Will watch Sampha now even though I saw him live a few months ago. Then Jamie xx.

Watching the replay of this because of you, decided you have good taste, they are class, remind me a bit of Beak>.

Why thank you.

I saw them starting out back in early 2018 in a tiny pub in south east London, with Sports Team and a little known band called Fontaines DC. Good times.

But yeah Squid have got better and better, experimental stuff and a drumming vocalist is always a good novelty.
