glastonbury 09'

So, I've just driven back from Glasto - left at 5am to miss the traffic and managed to get home about 11am. This was my 3rd year on the bounce at Glastonbury and there were some really good bands on. some of my favourites, in no particular order:-

Blur
the View
Status Quo
Kasabian
Dizzee Rascal
Tom Jones

Like somebody has already said, when there it is about much more than the music. The atmosphere and the outer areas are what really makes Glastonbury and I for one will be refreshing Seetickets for hours when next years tickets go on sale. It's a glasto anniversary next year and should be a special one!

We left at around 1am - I was showered (bliss) and in bed by 4.45am which was great. Had an absolute blast and some of the best bits were the parts when we chilled by Avalon or in the Sacred area. The music is fab but it is all the extras that make it so great.

Lily was great, Pendulum were epic, Prodigy were spine tingling, Dizee was electric but I had the greatest time at Lady Gaga. What a fabulous, filthy diva she is - oh there was so much of that they couldn't show on the hallowed BBC

Just got back earlier but had to go straight to bed because I thought I was going to die. Best acts of the weekend for me though were Ray Davies, Bruce Springsteen, Blur, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Macabees, Bon Iver and Dizzee Rascal. Springsteen in particular impressed me. I'm not a massive fan really but the energy he had on stage for a 60 year old was amazing. Blur were good as well not sure if they showed it on TV but Damon Albarn burst into tears half way through playing To The End I think it was.

Honourable mention to Jack Whites new band The Dead Weather as well. They played as special guests on the Park Stage and were really really good. Not sure how well they'll come across on record I think they might be more of a live band.

the best festival i went to was the Big Chill - i had absolutely no idea who was on the bill when i got my ticket and just went and saw a lot of random stuff that i had never heard of before - was much better experience than other festivals i have been to where we were running around from stage to stage with a timetable trying to catch particular bands.
I am glad you have enjoyed The Big Chill. I have played there seven times and always enjoyed the experience. I have not played for a couple of years since I haven't had a "show" to perform. I got quite fed up with the pill popping yuppies and rows and rows of cash machines in a field though in the end.
I watched Springsteen's Glastonbury gig on the BBC and thought he was a very poor imitation of his younger self but I guess it takes all sorts and any chance to see Sopranos consiglieri Silvio Dante playing guitar is welcome..

Cool - so can I see some links to your music? Would like to hear it

BC is relatively small compared to Glasto but i suppose it has still grown a lot over the years and had some inevitable commercialisation - but thankfully they have not whored themselves out completely as yet, much worse at V Fest and all that lot

I will pm you a link for a recent live recording but most of my stuff is not available now since I have been working on software sampler instruments and orchestral sample libraries for some time as my main job.
The Big Chill was great imo until The Canteloupe Group bought out Pete and Katrina who used to run it (albeit at break-even at best..). Then it became just a little too corporate yuppiefest for me.
