glastonbury 09'

Blur are putting on a good show here, playing a lot from Parklife

must dig out Parklife and throw it on the Ipod

Blur seemed good from what I saw...did a good classics selection. Damon seemed wired to feck on something and they played Parklife too fast, but you can;t really complain...they did the set everyone wanted and did it with gusto

Nick Cave is great live, i've seen him in a smallish venue and it was probably just about the best live gig i've ever seen. Springsteen looked great and i like the boss but i prefere proper venues to watch bands/artists and not to have to fork out 50 quid a ticket. Still it's not like too many oppertunities to see him will come up...

It seems like Pendulum's performance was liked by some and disliked by others in equal measure, for me they played one of my favourite sets this year but can see why people wouldn't have like them.

I'm listening to Friendly Fires at the moment, good stuff.

I haven't watched much of Glastonbury this year, but what I did watch I thought was pretty bland. Paulo Naltini was a bloody nutcase, the live performances sounded nothing like the album and although he and the band probably enjoy it, I found it grating.

I thought Madness put on a bad performance, there music is full of energy and meant to get you on your feet and dance a bit, they really didn't bring that to their performance. I thought they were a bit boring which is a shame.

Tom Jones was good though, but he always blasts out the tunes.

Madness are shit, i hate that sca or whatever sounding pish.

Blur were never even that good anyway but they looked decent enough live. It just shows the lack of decent live bands around with broad appeal when you have to bring in bands who have been around for 20/30 years or reform a group like Blur to headline...

To be fair it was a glastronbury i'd have went to because it did have some genuine class acts.

Aye Nutini is pish and all.

Pendulum used a plastic guitar on stage with no strings. Die.

Pendulum used to be quite a good Drum 'n' Bass act, then like plenty of other dance acts seeking the dollar, they sold out and brought all this guitar wank into their music. It's brought them more fans (of a shite variety), but the music's pish.

Watched the highlights on bbc2/3/4 over the weekend and tbh, most of the stuff was pish. Some band called the virgins? Shite. Paolo Nutini is shite. Lily Allen is shite. Loads of other nme cockstains arsing about being bland and unoffensive. Best act for me was status quo haha, at least they looked up for it. Anyine else I saw was to busy posing. And Lauren fecking Laverne, seems to be the most pointless person in the world. Always on TV, doing nothing and being as equally bland and middle of the road as the bands shes talking about.

i thought the fleet foxes were pretty good, as was those african dudes, the geezer with the gold guitar

Bah, wasn't overly impressed by anyone in particular. It was all the same oul stuff that ye can hear on radio 1 or bbc6.

Lilly Allen & Paolo Nutini are always shit. What do you expect?

There’s more to Glastonbury than them two. Springsteen, Blur and Neil Young all looked brilliant. Florence & The Machine, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Prodigy, Dizzee Rascal, Kasabian, Lady Gaga, The Macabees and Glasvegas all played wicked sets from what i have seen.

I thought the BBC did a pretty good job of showing a wide range of artists.

I think Lauren "fecking" Laverne is ok. Though i did get a bid tired of the presenters towards the end. I think its hard for them to really convey the spirit and size of Glastonbury to the people at home.

After every act they said "that’s the busiest we have ever seen the Pyramid field". I don’t know how busy it was for the headliners, my missus will no doubt tell me when she gets back tonight, but the busiest i have seen it was for Jay-Z last year.

Lily Allen and Nutini, fair enough that shouldn't have been a surprise. The rest you listed i dont think much of personally either.

Maybe you should go, that way you can see the stuff you want. BBC are always going to show the more popular/mainstream acts.

Even checking the full line up online it seems like one massive, safe, middle of the road pish-fest. Nothing particularly good or interesting stood out. But it seems all festivals are going that way. Even checking the line-ups for like pukkelpop, rocksilde, and other european festivals, everyone has the same acts playing.

Music is subjective.

Who would you like to see then?

he's a slightly less shit version of that little monkey that plays piano, you know the guy with the squashed face? his name escapes me.

You mean that little chimp thats going out with Sophie Dahl - Jamie Cullam.

When i found out the other week that he is engaged to her, i nearly fell off my chair.

Wrong.

Music is subjective. And personally any acts i want to see aren't gonna be playing anywhere big anytime soon. ATDI and Death From Above, and Blood Brothers have all broken up.

Jamie Cullen? He played with Spinal Tap, and they were all pretty damn awful

It could be a case of some bands just not wanting to do festivals. Are muse/the strokes even doing anything this year?

Have you been in a coma? The Strokes haven’t toured or released anything for about 3 or 4 years. They are working on new stuff though.

As for Muse, they have a new album and live shows scheduled coming in a few months.

Plus, Glastonbury doesnt tend to book headliners that have played recently. Muse played in 2004, so they may be due again next year if the album is good.

i think sometimes people focus too much on which bands are on at a festival - at the best festivals there is usually so much more going on with art, comedy etc that never gets shown on the TV

the best festival i went to was the Big Chill - i had absolutely no idea who was on the bill when i got my ticket and just went and saw a lot of random stuff that i had never heard of before - was much better experience than other festivals i have been to where we were running around from stage to stage with a timetable trying to catch particular bands.

Er, well i guess you best get into something new if the 3 bands you want to see have split up!!!

Ah, thought the Strokes still toured despite the lack of new material.

Too right. Thats what its all about.

But if your watching it on TV, then its all about the bands.

This is the first time in years i have not been to Glaso, so watching the bands on TV is all i have to go off.

Plus, watching on TV doesnt give you the full story. I have seen bands at Glasto that i thought were crap at the time look brilliant on TV when i have seen them later. But maybe thats due to the drugs, the alcohol and my mood at the time!!!
