Giorgio Chiellini

Yep, great interview. Because Serie A has been in a bit of a dip in recent times, I've forgotten about Italian football a bit. I grew up with James Richardson and the beauty of live Italian football being brought to our front rooms. It was the standard bearer for so long and I used to love the way they played, the passion, the role it seemed to play in the life of the country. I used to think they were men compared to the guys I watched in England. Proper, grown up, well rounded men. Chiellini is one of them. Like him or loathe him, he'll go down as one of the greats. What an insight that interview is into the mentality of a winner. Played off the park by Spurs for large parts of this tie, you believe him when he talks about the belief they had. He was magic tonight. How much must the Juve fans love this guy.

Really enjoyed this post. Especially the first half.

To be fair, no modern CB is on the same level as Chiellini, so that's setting the bar too high. Can hope for Bailly to become a top CB, but even he wouldn't be able to get to this level.
The bar in not too high, it's where it should be. If there is no CB on that level than we bring a young CB and nurture him into one. There are quality options out there, and we shouldn't rest on our laurels until we find that partner for Bailly.

The point was, there was a time the best CBs or CB in the world were playing for Manchester United, now we have players clearly not on that level.

Chiellini is a quality player and I agree there are not many of the same ilk, solid as they come.

He is amazing, the passion for defending he has is second to none. I miss the days when we had defenders like him at every team that would die to prevent a goal.

He's the guy that headbutted Suarez in the mouth isn't he? Okay-ish player. A good defender but a serial diver and dramaqueen.

Terrific interview. Initially it did seem as if the question wasn't needed, but Chiellini spoke so well and was truly brilliant to listen to. In moments like these, it's nice to honour those who are lost and Chiellini seemed to handle the situation well and achieve this.

Nice picture of the man from last night

Barca and Bayern's first choice CBs are better than him.

Had good and bad moments last night, with the good ones outweighing the bad.

I love how comfortable Juve are with the opposition in their own box, though. It's almost as if they invite them in.

Why not break the bank for Chiellini?

He would put all players in check and hold them accountable. He would rather throw Kompany to the ground then let him free like Smalling did.

These type of grown up players is what Utd need. Not buying another Sanchez or Pogba.

Bailly is the worse of the two. Watch him constantly opening up space for City players to pass into.
I'm not a fan of him either. He only gets less shit from people because apparently he's wacky and a character.

Smalling is still worse though.

We should go for Buffon and De Rossi while we're at it.

I think Smalling is better because he can form a partnership with Jones or Rojo. Bailly thinks he needs to defend on his own and he's also prone to passing the ball straight to the opposition. He's cost too many points this season for me and almost cost us the Liverpool game as well. Just bad season but at least he's fairly young.

They're at least not making Lindelöf looking as horrible as he's made out to be.

Chiellini would have similar problems because of his lack of pace and being used to playing in a back three where that is less of a problem. Bonucci would be a better option, he's got no business playing for a poor team like Milan.

I got excited about Sanchez, Pogba, Bailly, Lukaku and Mkhitaryan.

I don't know how anyone looks at other players and are optimistic .

He's the right profile but the wrong age. We need the scouting department to come up with a younger version.

Cock aside, what a guy. Incredible defender and a top professional.

It's his enormous nose in that pic that surprised me.

Guts and heart my ass.

Guy's a fanny.

Considering how he is seen as big hard defender and a warrior- he falls to the floor a lot

Bit of a prick but a great defender in all fairness.

Should make players like this stand in the corner with a dunce cap whilst watching the replay of their dive for 5 minutes during the match.

Fitting punishment. Utter clown.

To be fair Atlético deserved that. Godin is specialist at it.
