Giorgi Mamardashvili

Allison must be leaving in 2025 then. I can't say I know much about Mamardashvili but I doubt he's at Allisons level.
Pretty sure Mamardashvili is far better shot stopper than Allison. It's hard to tell how good he is at ball playing because neither Valencia nor Georgia play the kind of football where he would be an Allison for them. I doubt he is bad at it, or else Liverpool wouldn't be signing him. Liverpool recruitement knows what they need from a goalkeeper better than all of us combined, so it is a bit funny hearing Redcafe posters judging Mamardashvili on that where most probably have only seen him for 4 euros games with Georgia team that played deep defensive line

Didn’t Allison just say yesterday that he wants to stay for many more years? How’s this going to work then?

He's doing a medical today, but not signing until next June?

What happens if he gets a horror injury next season and Liverpool have the medical and all the papers signed already?

Disappointed Liverpool have signed him. Will most likely become an elite keeper. Would trade him for Onana in a heartbeat.

He’s very much a line keeper similar to De Gea, you can maybe teach him to play with his feet but that’s not going to happen at Valencia. He’s a great shot stopper but Alisson is superb in that regard too. It’s unlikely this dude is better at that.

Still, based on the little I’ve seen he’s a potentially great GK, I’m just not sure why we need to get him in. We have other positions that need urgent urgent attention.

Fair summary.

Sounds like everybody expects Allison to leave next Summer, possibly to Saudi? Would not make any sense, otherwise

At this point there's not really one area of goalkeeping Mamardashvili is significantly better at than Allison. To try and say otherwise is utter nonsense.

That's good business I would favor him over Onana given his profile as a keeper.

Fbref disagrees, Mamardashvili has better percentage of crosses stopped and he has also saved 50% of penalties, where Allison has saved zero, in the last 365 days. Anyway, nobody is arguing that Allison is #1 best goalkeeper in the world (overall) right now and Mamardashvili is an interesting prospect at best. That said, Liverpool scouts know a thing or two about goalkeepers and they must really like something about this Georgian to sign him as supposed Allison replacement. I don't really care to be honest, we've beat Liverpool even with Allison, when we played well, and I am sure we will beat them with Mamardashvili, as well, as long as we are our best.

Stats don't tell the whole story there. Stopped crosses is just the amount claimed? It doesn't say how many were actually claimable does it? There's no stat for expected claims(yet), that I'm aware of.

Nick Pope was one of the best performing keepers in the league across a lot of metrics, because he was playing for Burnley, who spent a lot of time under pressure. But he's shite with his feet so nobody wanted him.

Valencia are a mid table La Liga team, who almost got relegated a couple of years ago. It probably stands to reason he'd stop more crosses, because he’s behind a defence that faces more chances and crosses than Liverpool give away.

He's moving to the club in 2025 but is contractually a Liverpool player on loan as soon as he signs. If he gets injured: tough luck.

Impression at the Euros was he’s more Courtois than Allison, definitely a potential top keeper either way

We shouldnt sleep on any position. Liverpool and City hit the jackpot with Ederson and Allison, the latter might be leaving so they line up replacement in time. But loko at Arsenal they had Leno and never hesitate to replace him with Ramsdale and quickly replaced him with Raya in few years. We should be adding competition or viewing upgrade. Should be make or break season for Onana.

WHat happened to D. Costa btw? Is he not seen as a good prospect anymore?

He is signing, but will be loaned back to Valencia for a year. No different than a loan of any other player a club owns

Got a feeling Alisson is going to leave next summer so we're signing his replacement now.

Sorry, mate, but that's a bit dramatic. Many great United goalkeepers took time to settle in, including De Gea when he first joined. Onana had a very troubling first half of the season last year, but he can still be great. Not to jinx it, but in the first two games so far, he's been good. He needs a very different defensive line and with De Ligt + Yoro, plus if Licha can stay not injured, we may finally see his best. His best could be better than that of Mamardashvili's, and more fitting for what we need. No need to drool over other club's players, we need to think about our own :)

Has that been clarified now?

At the time it seemed like they were signing papers now for a deal that would take effect next summer? It makes sense that they’d buy him now and loan him back, but that wasn’t the language used originally.

Didn't Liverpool have a similar agreement for Navy Keita.

Pretty sure we were linked to him before we splashed 50m on Onana!

Alisson must be leaving in a year or two, otherwise they would t splash this money on a keeper now. Great replacement, went out there and got the best one available currently for a good fee. Costa from Porto is not bad either, but much more expensive
