Gervinho

No, I'm not. I'm looking at how both have performed this season, and Mata has been the far better of the two. How can you even try to deny that he is a crucial player for Arsenal?
You've seen about three Arsenal games all the way through and probably the same number of Chelsea games.

He was Arsenal's worst player today IMO. Perhaps some Arsenal fans can enlighten me on what he offers? All I see him doing is running around like a headless chicken with a terrible first touch, and without ever looking up.

Why aren't Walcott or the Ox getting in ahead of him? Is it Walcotts contract issues?

I think he's alright on the wing, he can be fairly skillfull and beat a player with his pace, but around the box you need far more to your game and I agree he hasn't got it. Should stick to the wings where he can do some damage and play Podolski or Giroud through the middle, if the latter find his form.

Walcott's head seems to be in another place so until his contract is sorted the less the better from him I think. Ox was tired

For all of Gervinho's fault he is always there causing issues. People can say put another player there instead but there is no guarantee he would cause the same kind of threat. He is causing problems until the final minute but his problem is he lacks composure when it comes to making the final pass or the shot. I think composure is something which can be worked on and if Wenger thinks he can iron those issues out in his game then give him a chance.

Point of him being a striker is him to play more of a false No.9, dropping off deep and I rotating with players and I think that caused Man City a lot of issues.

Yeah. Gervinho will always annoy teams, even when he's off his game.

What I like about him is he never stops trying.

He's got the composure of a two-year old being told scary stories about murderers, though.

He always gets into good areas and he works hard but once he gets into good areas anything is possible with Gervinho, I mean that first touch yesterday

Work rate doesn't mean much if you don't do anything with it.

He was pretty horrible yesterday when it mattered.

Yeah but if he wasn't getting into good areas and creating space and chances you'd be really worried as an Arsenal fan, as it is they'll just have to be worried.

If Nani was a frustrating player then what the hell is Gervinho  ?
He is so blinkered in his play, he needs to be taught football from a low level, he needs to learn to look up.

Every single time I watch him, I can't help but imagine just how good Arsenal would look if they had Valencia playing for them on the wing instead of Gervinho

He's getting a lot of criticism on the Arsenal forums of late and yes, this season he's been awful whenever he played.

£12M..

Nothing surprising, they are having really shitty season so far in EPL.

Very frustrating player, the skill/pace are there but you despair of his game ever being put together in a consistent package.

Pete, why was he played as a striker couple of times?

Giroud was settling in and Chamahk was still getting over what ails him (has looked a bit better of late). Not a great idea IMO, tho' he got a couple in a 6-1 demolition of Soton.

Fair enough. How do you rate Giruod now that he has setlled?

Giroud provides a focus for the team and has more to his game than I first thought. He's done well. We still don't make proper use of him eg at Everton the other day we didn't give him across to attack in the box until about the 80th minute - he was a whisker away from winning us the game.

He doesn't seem to have the brain for the top level and his first touch can be shit. I'm just hoping he's another Song whom Arsene can mould into a decent player.

Hard to decide if he or Chamakh have the shittest hair.

Giroud at full confidence will be great for us. Instead of just belting it up to RvP and hoping he'll make some magic we have Giroud to bring others in as well as finish himself.

Read somewhere that after the 9 circles of hell, there is most likely a tenth one where Gervinho is running around in a constant loop chasing after his first touch

His decision-making for a top level player is the worst I've seen for quite some time, in respect to the position he plays. For every moderately good decision that he makes, there are 10 absolutely shit ones that follow. The brain is simply not there when it needs to be. And he loves trying to beat the same player in the same play over and over again, feck knows why..

Well I was screaming at the TV last Tuesday then he laid a goal on a plate for Rosicky. Then went back to doing the wrong thing.

Best player in the AFCON and then comes back and turns to shit again. Strange player.

To be honest, he has been outstanding since arriving at Roma. One of the best wingers in the Serie A, productive, has eye for others, he is a huge threat every time he plays.. 5 goals and 2 assists this season, 15 goals and 11 assists last season. In this form he would add loads to Arsenal xd.

I remember when I posted that long ass Strootman vid and there was one guy who just kept tearing up defences time and time again, took me a while before I realised it is Gervinho. He is electric when he wants to be - probably why he didn't suit Arsenal - they prefer passers.

After an decent start he completely lost confidence, with us going through a pretty shit period he along with Ramsey became easy targets for the fans. Ramsey handled it well but Gervinho is someone who I think needs to feel loved and it was best for him to have a new challenge.

You could see with us at the start some of the games he was fantastic. Think he missed a penalty for Ivory coast in the African cup and after that his form just got worse. I always liked the guy, really did believe he could come good for us but sometimes things don't work out. Missing absolute sitters doesn't help unfortunately!
