Gervinho

When Pete talks about "Arsenal"-players, or "Wenger"-players, I'm starting to think he means players who'll look pretty or stylish but doesn't provide anything in terms of cutting edge.

Gervinho is infuriating to watch. So much pace, so little idea of what to do on the pitch.

It's his first season in this country and he's impressed a fair bit. Can look like a headless chicken at times but on the whole I've liked his directness and willingness to get into dangerous positions. He's set up a fair few goals for RVP already but I think it's best to reserve judgement on him until the end of the season.

Think people are a bit too quick to dismiss him here. Think he is about Young level.

Agree with the first statement from B19, alot of people here seem to venting at him for not putting in a perfomance that helped halt City. He was a very highly rated player whilst still in France, He has shown signs of that on brief occasions for anybody who has regularly watched him(from what I remember red card apart he was very good on his debut) and he is still settling in.

He has more in his locker than he has shown so far and as time goes on he will be one of the key men to look out for when playing Arsenal. Very good player IMO.

get brushed off the ball too easily. not sure if he suited for premiership football.

I don't think he's really got that much to be honest. He's another speed merchant basically. He doesn't have a lot to his game, however people rate him anyway due to his speed.

He was probably a lot more successful at exploiting defenders with his pace in Ligue 1, but this is a much higher level, and despite some of the poor defending this season, the defenders are generally a lot more intelligent and better at what they do.

Because you've seen him settled in, at Lille and Ivory Coast? Or is that just blind faith (in an opposition player!)? He looked exactly the same player in Lille to me, ludicrously wasteful making all of his dribbling threat largely redundant.

Some on here will be very surprised at just what a good player he is once he settles.

I don't quite get this argument. As far as I'm concerned the main problem isn't really that he's not used to the PL pace and intensity. It's simply down to him not being able to do anything useful, when he manages to get in a good position. He often does well getting to the opponents box with a good run/dribble/whatever, but then he fecks up.

I'm not saying that he can't improve of course. But as I see it, it's about improving his skill and decision making and not at all related to him playing in a new league.

I actually think he's pretty decent. He's one of those players who are very frustrating as he'll do something great then proceed to feck it up by not doing the simple things right. He still manages to create some decent chances whenever I've seen him though.

I wouldn't put it past him just yet to improve on his final product just yet.

It's not venting because of a nothing performance against City, the thread was made way back in August and the same issues remain unresolved with Gervinho.

The problem for him is that the areas that he needs to improve in aren't so easy to coach into a player. Pete will recoil in horror, but he reminds me a bit of Park - he has a terrific engine, he's works like a dog when not in possession and he takes up some intelligent positions. Like Park though, his composure at key moments on the ball leaves something to be desired.

Sure, he can improve the quality and consistency of his final ball to an extent, but he's never going to be great at it. He's a tunnel vision player who plays the right final ball maybe once in five. His finishing is truly abysmal.

He's an okay player, but he's never going to be near the Overmars, Pires, Ljungberg, Nasri standard of wide forward/winger.

He's absolutely nothing like Park, his big strength is running past players, which he did v City. Laid a goal on a plate for RvP which he missed. He's been miles better than Nasri this season

Needs to play with his head up. Lacks composure, which is one of the key elements of Wengers' signings. It is his first year in the Premiership so might just be taking some to adjust.

Wasteful.

Plenty of pace and efforts. Misses a hell of a lot of good chances but has got a few assists for RVP so fair play.

About as composed as Anderson infront of goal mind. Oh and nice hair.

He's not a bad footballer by any stretch of the immagination, and has some very good attributes... however, he just makes terrible decisions and a consistent basis.

 Ya...miles pete. Surely you're not being bitter there. Gervinho, at best, is a work in progress. He'll be a good player once he hits some consistency but that's about it.

Not really been impressed by him although it is early days yet. Take Van Persie out of the side and he won't be one of the players to step up.
